Oven and Shaker serves up some excellent and unique pizza, but don't skip on the salads, either! The arugula salad was a surprise and smash hit at our table- wonderful vinaigrette played beautifully with the bitterness of the greens, and there was a LOT of salad there. I usually regret ordering a salad but find myself trying to replicate this recipe because it is just that good!
The pizza, of course, is why most people come. Oven-made right there and delicious flavors with just the right amount of crust to carry the toppings make this a go-to for a good time- good drinks, good food, good service, what more can one say? A worthy and gratifying stop on your portland food tours!
It's still a good place to get some tasty wood fired pizzas and sides when in the area and in need of something good. We had the mushroom and the Margherita pizza this time. The mushroom was a bit better than the Margherita, in my opinion. We also had the Arugula Salad, which was very good and also shared the spicy meatballs and burrata.
Always a fan of this establishment—I’ve been coming here for years for the friendly service, great pizza, and delicious cocktails. If you’re looking a fun, low-key dinner in the Pearl, definitely recommend.
We enjoyed the crispy chickpeas alot! Ordered the maple pig pizza which was very interesting, but also one of the most unique and delicious pizzas I've ever had! Waiter forgot about our burrata, so we didn't get to try that but we were full anyways. Also tried a non-alcoholic that was really good!
Picked it up and went to the hotel rooftop nearby. Fantastic pie with tons of flavor from the ingredients. You end up taking more time to capture all the flavors. Honestly worth savoring every bite while you strap in.
I thought the pie would be small but it's much more than you think with the crust.
Only visiting but with the amount of flavor that you get with a short wait for the high temp, quick cook time, I'll probably come back!
A grate place for pizza lovers! The pizza crusts are soft and delicious. Descent vegetarian options. We ordered ‘the pearl’ and it was super 😋. A place worth visiting while in Portland.
Love the pizza here. They make the thin crust wood fired pizza pretty well. We had the mushroom pizza, roasted beet salad. Taste is excellent, Ambience is pretty cool, very friendly servers, and it's right in the heart of downtown. I did think the prices were a bit pricey for the portions. All in all a great time we had here.
I went there on a Tuesday night. The hostess was very nice and welcoming. She was able to get me right in at the bar. The restaurant had a great ambiance. It looked like lots of different types of people were there (families, couples on a date, friends meeting up, co-workers after work, etc.). I ordered a beer and a cheese pizza. The beer was local and the pizza came out in a reasonable time. Both very good. If I am being honest everything was great except the service was probably a C+/B-. I will just say that he was a little less than hospitable. (Sort of a downer to an otherwise great experience).
Despite that, I will probably go back another time and sit in the dining area.
Some of the best pizza I've ever had, truly. It's extremely fresh tasting and everything seemed of great quality. The service was also lovely, we were in there during a slow period. Cocktail was also exceptional! Coming back here is a must.
This was a great place to eat pizza and grab some drinks. The restaurant layout is excellent and it's open with a long bar. The inside is beautiful and the bar and bar backdrop really set the tone for the restaurant. We ordered the margarita pizza and added prosciutto and arugula. They piled on the arugula which was great. We also ordered the Fettunta and some beers. The pizza tasted great, but our last two slices we noticed they were soggy in the middle. I don't know if that's from the sauce, but we didn't notice it on the other slices. Maybe because we ate the other slices quicker, but they were soggy and kind of ruined the rest of our pizza. The Fettunta bread had a really good flavor, but it may have been toasted a little too long. The drinks were good and our waitress was really nice, friendly and helpful. The hostess was a little rude and she was training someone, but could have showed a friendlier attitude towards customers. A very nice and clean place.
From the moment we walked in the door, everybody was so warm and welcoming! Chase took care of us for the evening, and even helped me choose a beverage. I thoroughly enjoyed the pineapple trainwreck cocktail and we ordered the pearl Pizza, and it's the best I've had in years! Will definitely be coming back! Thanks again for the wonderful experience, Chase and staff
I often look for nook and artisan establishments when eating out. Oven and Shaker is the definition of Artisan wood fired pizza. Many people do one of two things.. eat food to live or live to eat food. I am definitely the latter of the two. Other reviews complain about "raw" or not firm toppings. This self proves that they eat food to live and do not know Artisan basing reviews on places like Domino's or Pizza Hut. Those that know, know the curl up of a Pepperoni means they use real Pepperoni and the "raw" is where protein meets cheese.
Let me divulge my experience with my other half and his brother. We started with drinks and Arancini and spicey meatballs. The appetizers were refreshing and definitely made to order. The word "Dry, gooey, raw, or bland.. we not in our opinions of anything we had". We then decided to order 4 different pizzas, to try the assortment and accompany them with some drinks. The drinks, especially mine, are one of the freshest I've had from any top bar and not overly strong. Of the pizzas, that natural burn spots on the crust are classic signs of not only fresh wood fire, but also fresh made thin dough. The ingredients were all fresh and of the spicey Salami, Italian sausage, seasonal special, and Pepperoni... we could not choose a favorite as we enjoyed all of them. We had about 6 slices each and were pleasantly full, not stuffed by any means or left with the feeling of bloated like you would from most pizza places or thick crust remnants.
We finished with a couple desserts, a creme (I don't remember the name) and the mint Gelato. Both, are as of 5 star quality. Especially the mint Gelato.. never have I been to a place that took the time to make and use fresh mint essence in Gelato. Let me tell you, Gelato with fresh mint is by far Paramount in flavor to any other made. It's details like that that make a place elevated and unique.
Oven and Shaker will definitely be the place that is recommended by me when people ask for unique artisan places to eat in Portland. Not only was our bill evenly matched to all we ordered, the wait was not long and I was more than happy to give a generous tip of over 35%, which is rare for me. It is a well deserved and much deserving resteraunt of 5 stars with top pic of recommendations.
I liked the ambience and arrangement of this restaurant. I sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the two beautiful ladies at the counter. The pizza tasted fresh and I enjoyed the white glass of wine on happy hour too. The sparkling rosé was delicious and I enjoyed the happy tunes playing in the background.
Excellent pizza! We had the mushroom and the pepperoni. I lean toward the mushroom for overall winner, but the pepperoni was solid.
The roasted olives were legit! I’ve only ever had them cold, but roasting them enhance the flavor tremendously.
Comfy restaurant, amazing bar decor.
Food really good, the cocktails menu is very interesting. Highlight for Fallen Yellowjacket.
Service really good and fast.
Great neopolitan style pizza! Started with a fried risotto with mozzarella which was nice and crispy. We had the Margherita, Mushroom, and Maple Pig pizza. The Margherita was a bit too saucy but delicious nonetheless. The maple pig was a nice balance of salty sweet. It is a bit of a fork and knife pizza. The sweet bacon was reminiscence of Chinese BBQ Pork. The mushroom was my personal favorite as a mushroom lover. The mushrooms was fragrant and tasty with a nice crispy crust.
Unique pizza and craft cocktail joint. They excel at both. The pizzas are the thin crust sized for one person. The meatballs are good. Especially the sauce. PRO TIP: If your drink calls for sweet vermouth, ask for Carpano Antics. Check out my profile for more great eateries and cocktail bars. ✌🏼✌🏼
Food was good, the pizza crust is VERY good and the meatballs were flavorful. Their house red wine is also lovely. The SERVICE is what I came here to review because I feel as though restaurant service has been on a decline but this place was great. Waitstaff was attentive and kind. I would come back just for that!
