Brose' Family Variety Show
I visited Voodoo Doughnut in Davis, Oregon on a weekday afternoon. I was surprised to be the only patron, but the staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a dozen donuts, which cost $25. The donuts were creative and delicious, I was not disappointed by the quality or the price.
The shop is located in a somewhat sketchy area, with a moderate homeless population. However, the parking lot is secure and vagrant-free.
Overall, I would recommend Voodoo Doughnut to anyone looking for a unique and delicious donut experience.

Voodoo was our first stop in Portland on the way to our hotel. We arrived at 5pm on a Wed and were the only ones there. We decided on the Voodoo dozen - 13 for $25. Otherwise, the donuts were $1.25-$5.50 each. We thought they were phenomenal - super soft, fluffy, and flavorful. Very original flavors like Grape Ape (grape flavored), Oh Captain My Captain (Captain Crunch on top), The Dirt (chocolate cream filled cookies on top). Customer service was fast and friendly.

I went there twice during my weekend trip in Portland last week. The donuts are nice and fluffy.
My boyfriend and I got the special donuts there, I was surprised you can customize the font and color of the icing. We had a fun time taking pictures of each other eating it.

If your late-night craving calls for a vegan donut fix, your search ends here at Voodoo Doughnut in Davis. They've got just what you need. With a dazzling array of unique and playful creations, Voodoo is a haven for donut enthusiasts. Sure, you might find yourself waiting in line, reminiscent of the queues at Disneyland, but don't fret. Strike up a conversation with fellow donut lovers in line and make some new friends – after all, only the coolest people flock to Voodoo! 😉🍩✨

I enjoyed this donut shop for its novelty and fun-themed donuts including the Homer. Visit this location with ample parking and hardly a wait. I went to the Old Town location, but after seeing a very long line and no parking in sight, I kept driving and came to this nearby location.
Nafisa Tamrakar
It was so much fun visiting this place for yummy donuts that are hard to choose from. We sat outside and ate a few of them and took another variety box home. And it was a hit, everyone was so excited and eager to try VooDoo Donuts.

Of course, if you're in Portland -- Voodoo Donuts is a must. A lot of people say it's hyped but more than the hype, Voodoo has really great tasting donuts and a variety of flavor combinations that made them popular.
This branch in Davis has no lines early in the morning. We got here as soon as they opened to get our coffee and donut fix. Not all flavors were available yet but they already have more than a dozen to choose from!
We also grabbed their cute pink Voodoo donut mugs for souvenirs.

In and out in around 5 minutes on Sunday during Labor Day weekend, the Davis location made trying them out a lot simpler than expected. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the doughnuts were very good. What maybe gets lost with the hype around their signature doughnuts is that their Portland Cream is a pretty solid Boston cream analog, and I'd recommend it.
Also, with the pink bike racks and bike-share docks nearby, you can have the very Portland experience of getting your doughnuts carless.

Voodoo Doughnut in Davis is a sweet indulgence paradise. The doughnuts are creative, funky, and undeniably delicious. While the line can be long, the wait is absolutely worth it. The variety is mind-boggling, and the flavors are extraordinary. It's not just a doughnut shop; it's an experience that tantalizes your taste buds and leaves you craving more. If you're a doughnut aficionado, this place is a must-visit. Just be prepared for the crowd; it speaks volumes about how fantastic their treats are!

This Voodoo Doughnut location sure beats the long line of the downtown one. Obviously the downtown location draws lots of people because of its history. If you want the same delicious doughnuts with good service and don't want the line... This is the place to go! I would have given 5 stars if the merch was slightly more affordable. I paid $50 for my delicious😋 variety of selected doughnuts, I didn't want to walk out spending $100, so I didn't. 😀
Lu Tim
Best donut in town. Tons of flavour which are all daily made. Ample parking. 24 hrs. Highly recommended.
Ashley Kalani
Cute little donut shop. Was a little overwhelmed with the selection because there were SO many donuts- so I went with the mummy one. It was honestly too sweet. Still good, will just go for another one next time. 😊

Totally unbiased opinion, these doughnuts are okay! The quirkiness of the doughnuts and the shop are what make it touristy. Is it worth it? that's up to you. Do you like extremely sugary doughnuts? I do. They're definitely sweeter than say, krispy kreme doughnuts. Every single blog / tripadvisor-like website will tell you to come here when visiting Portland. For why, I don't know. It's not particularly the most quirky or interesting thing in Portland, but idk, guess they're branding things right... I really liked the grape doughnut. It tastes like nerds candy, or grape kool-aid. The dreamweaver and vicious hibiscus was pretty good too. My bf got the one with all the oreos on it. I liked that one as well, but he didn't. Overall enjoyed our experience. line was empty when we went, I can see if we had to wait for more than 20 minutes it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Customer service was great. Adorable, picture worthy doughnuts.
Amanda Ramsay
Doughnuts! Sugary treats that everyone wants to grab while they are in Portland. The names are fun and be careful of the sugar rush that you'll get from trying all of their doughnuts. They have a huge variety and it's so tempting to buy them all just to try them all.
Nicola Young
Go to this one for a faster line and more fun vibe - it has a stained glass window, great merch, and little picnic table outside. That and the donuts are awesome - get the chocolate round alongside some of the crazier choices.
Austin Dorenkamp
Delicious donuts! The apple fritter and Memphis Mafia (banana fritter with PB and Chocolate) were both excellent 👌
Lilli Alton
These donuts are definitely worth it. I've been here a couple of times and they are always fresh and delicious. My favorite is the Peanut Cake.
Tanner Godfrey
Went early in the morning to see what the hype was about - wasn’t disappointed! Super fun donut shop - very unique style, TONS of unique flavor options and delicious donuts. Lines can get long, so plan accordingly or order online (highly recommended).

This place is more unique than others doughnuts shop. It has a a lot of species and delicious. Doughnuts taste is good not prefect.
Marmotboy
Small line of eager fat people as we arrived. This place is very popular for those in search of keeping Portland Weird :), and a sugar bomb. Inventive donut creations. Had "the Loop", Fruit Loops on top of a donut. 🍩.

I heard of voodoo doughnut a lot so since I was in Portland I had to stop in eve though I am not much of a doughnut fan. I ordered the Mexican hot chocolate doughnut which was a chocolate doughnut with chili sugar on it was not really my thing also got the ol' Dirty Bastard doughnut was covered in oreo cookies & peanut but my wife loved this one. The voodoo doll doughnut shaped like the name says & my favourites were the mango filled doughnut & the special with lemon filling with pink lemonade topping both were delicious & worth buying.

While Seattle is fantastic, I was determined to take a train just down to Portland to get a taste of that city, too. Unfortunately, the train was canceled due to a mudslide, and we were bused to Portland.First stop: Voodoo Doughnut.Voodoo is a quirky, suggestive donut shop that's open 24 hours a day, with lines twisting and turning outside the sparkly brick building through pink gates.

Getting fat in Portland is really easy, every corner there is something yummy to eat! Having tried these donuts from friend’s bringing back some on their trip to Portland, I have never had these fresh! When I had to chance to go to Portland this year, this was a Great donuts, great atmosphere, best place to get fatty sweets in town. Travelling here on a weekday has its perks, there was almost no line-up (well maybe five people ahead of me) but it went fast.

Having seen Voodoo Doughnuts on the telly multiple time, I was excited to give it a try. Craving something sweet late one night, my friends and I pounced.<br/><br/>Star 1 - Was the service good?<br/><br/>You pick what you want, you order it, you get it immediately. Honestly, it would be hard fort he service not to be at least star-worthy. That having been said, both locations can get absolutely ridiculously crowded, and even the longest of lines doesn't seem to bother the counter staff. Luckily, there is plenty to do while you wait to include simply laughing at the creative and exhausting menu. Star Granted. <br/><br/>Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost?<br/><br/>While roughly $1 for a fried ball of dough may seem a bit on the expensive side ($2.50 for my massive apple fritter), the variety of doughnuts available makes the price well worth it. At the end of the day, you can walk out of VooDoo Doughnuts fully stocked with great-tasting donuts for under $5. Star Granted.<br/><br/>Stars 3/4 - Did the food taste good?<br/><br/>While Donuts are hard to mess up, they can also be extremely hard to make unique (I've never understood the appeal of Krispy Kremes). However, with what must be 50+ options, Voodoo Donuts really does succeed in making donuts appealing to even patrons with the most unique of tastes (bacon? on a donut?). Dual Stars Granted.<br/><br/>Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could?<br/><br/>While I'm not a huge dessert person, going to VooDoo donuts really was a huge treat that I very much enjoyed. However, as anyone can grow weary of the basic elements of a donut, I really would have given VooDoo a coveted 5-Star rating if they had ice cream available to compliment the donuts. As they didn't, I can't honestly say I could bring myself to come here on a daily basis. No Star Granted.

As I’ve mentioned before, donuts is pretty much synonymous with Portland and nothing screams donuts more than Voodoo Doughnuts.<br/><br/>Voodoo Doughnut Too is their second location and open 24 hours a day if you need to get your donut fix on. Check out our last visit here for more details on this location.<br/><br/>Keep an eye out for all of the references to their iconic Voodoo Doll Doughnut filled with raspberry jelly and topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake. When you walk inside, make sure you turn around and take a look at their stained glass windows.<br/><br/>Be careful if you plan on walking around with one of these bright pink boxes… everyone will know exactly what you’re carrying from blocks away.<br/><br/>Voodoo Doughnuts is more fun and playful when compared with Blue Star Donuts – if I had to choose, I’d probably pick Blue Star… but I’m not going to scoff at a Voodoo Doll.<br/><br/>Best donut to get here is definitely the Voodoo Doll!

This place has some classic donuts. It's a tourist food attraction. Their donuts are neatly decorated and delicious. There's a long wait time because of its popularity. If you're ever in Portland, this is the place to visit for good donuts.
The City Lane
Voodoo Doughnut is one of the most famous stores in Portland, with a reputation that extends beyond the USA. Regardless of whether you visit the 24/7 branch in Kerns or the original in Old Town you’ll be faced with the same dazzling array of wacky donut flavours served in pink boxes.

On our way out of town, we picked up Voodoo donuts. I had never been. Now I have, so that's covered. <br/><br/>We got some basics--buttermilk bar, maple old fashioned, rainbow sprinkle, apple fritter, chocolate crueller. And some oddballs--Miami Vice Berry, peanut butter Oreo, bacon maple bar, Blue Moon something, a purple one like the Miami Vice. <br/><br/>I found it very difficult to choose what to get--nothing looked particularly appealing. The basics were not as good as they are at Lafeen's back home. The Voodoo-y ones were nothing special (though some loved the peanut butter Oreo). I found Blue Star to be much more intriguing and delicious.
Clark Griswold
if you like voodoo doughnuts and you live on the east side, this is the place for you. but like it's westside sibling, there are lines for doughnuts that aren't really that good. i would recommend trying out Staccato Gelato for more edible doughnuts.
Matthew Wilson
The line was quite long, but it was worth it for the product we received. My wife ordered a dozen doughnuts (ignoring my calls of caution) and, while I enjoyed it, the sugar content of one doughnut was enough for me to distictly feel pain in the vicinity of my liver.<br/><br/>I would suggest taking the time in line to pick carefully what doughnut[s] you want, as most people can only handle one or two before their bodies begin to protest. All the moments leading up to your body fighting it are well worth the experience though!
DineVancity
Line up was really really long round dinner time. I felt that the dough of the donut were a little undercooked and really... well, doughy. A lot of the donuts that I ordered ended up really sour, like the grape ape and mango. The concepts of some of the donuts are a tad inappropriate for children... such as the Vick and balls donut.
Josh
There is a lot of hype about this place. Granted we came here mid afternoon but the doughnuts where dry and the staff was not very helpful. I would pass for my local bakery with fresh doughnuts.
Leanne Karella
I don't eat doughnuts, but my daughter LOVED this place. The lines are long, but it moves pretty fast. It helps if you've got your mind made up before you get there. Parking wasn't horrible at this location.
Wes
I'll start by saying I am a doughnut snob. I am constantly in search of the best doughnuts, and I have tried them all over the country. I knew I had to try this place during a visit to Portland, and I can sum it up by saying this: It is a cool place, with a great atmosphere and unique doughnut flavors that you won't find anywhere else. But I have had much better doughnuts elsewhere. My friend and I had Maple Bacon Bars, something this place is famous for, and buttermilk bars. The maple bar was tasty but very sweet. The buttermilk bar was good but kind of dry. We went at about 8 AM on a Thursday and there was no line. And be forewarned: there are no descriptions of the doughnuts anywhere. You kind of just have to guess or wing it and so guess you could ask the staff, but good luck with that if they are busy. Very good coffee to go with your selections if you are into that. So check it out if you are into funky artwork and atmosphere, but there are a bunch of doughnut shops in Portland and I bet you will find a better tasting doughnut in a lesser known shop.
Stefbunny247
First Time Having Voodoo. I had Voodoo for the first time and I was not impressed. I had the grape ape which had grape Koolaid powder on it, sprinkles, and vanilla frosting. Because there was Koolaid powder on the doughnut it was to sugary and I could feel a sugar film on my teeth. I think they should have mixed up the Koolaid and put that in the frosting instead of milk. The doughnut it self was too thick, I had to give effort to chew the donut. Doughnuts are suppose to be light and fluffy not thick. Frankly I think Safeway doughnuts are better than Voodoo doughnuts. As for the store the sign was not easy to read from a distance so you have to make a quick and pressured order, the music was so loud that I couldn't hear myself think, and the service was awful the guy didn't even say "hi" and got frustrated when I made a mistake.

Listed on Urban Spoon as gluten free friendly. There is NOTHING gluten free. Pretty annoyed by the false advertising.
Jan
Worth a 25 minute wait in the drizzly rain!. We had a bacon maple bar which was awesome and the McMinnville cream which was outstanding. We ate them very slowly to enjoy every bite.
Ron
Of course I had heard about this place prior to visiting. I am not sure what the hype is all about. I found the donuts to be good of course. No better than any other good donut shop though. I guess the gimmick of the unique shapes or toppings is what does it? I won't go out of my way to stop back by this place, but if I am in the area we will eat here again.
RumpleBalsamaceous
An experience not to be missed. And the donuts are incredible. Worth the wait. Will be taking home the $30 visitor package on my way back through. Bring cash!
Heather S
Not much of wait here, and the bacon maple bar is delicious! Love that salty taste!
Jack Bourdain
Touristy but worth a shot!. CASH ONLY<br/><br/>This place has an ATM if you forgot to bring cash with you, but they still do not take card themselves. I'm sure this will never change as the cash only thing seems to expedite things along for this popular Portland tourist attraction.<br/><br/>Voodoo Doughnuts and this location is kitchy and punk, but in a good and fun way that comes off as appealing to everyone.<br/><br/>They feature a bevy of everyone's favorite doughnuts, Vegan Doughnuts, and their signature fancier doughnuts like their famous Voodoo Doll Doughnut which is a chocolate bar filled with Raspberry (blood) with a small thin pretzel sticking through it as if it was struck by a pin!<br/><br/>I've been here quite a few times on various trips and not really because I buy into all of the hype surrounding the place, but simiple curiosity and a love for creativeness.<br/><br/>The first time I went I went to the original location downtown and found my doughnut (the Memphis Mafia) to be insipid. On many other occasions at this location I either found my doughnut to be just ok on up to too sweet on the frosting! I'll tell you though... I really did like their Orangutan which tastes kind of like an Orange Cream doughnut. I found the bacon maple bar which I had twice to be totally over-rated. One time it was really bland and the second time the frosting was too sweet and the bacon was still bland. I think this one just suffers from great concept, but poor execution.<br/><br/>My hope for all of you is that you find at least one doughnut that you love here!<br/><br/><br/>-----17 Sep, 2012-----<br/><br/>Kitchy...but worth a shot at least once!!!. Featured on "Man vs. Food" and "Unique Eats"<br/><br/>I've been to the original downtown location as well as this one. I found I liked this location much better for many reasons. The first being the actual size of this location. It's much larger and closer in size to an actual doughnut shop. There are lots of cool decorations...much like the original but more. Second the staff was a bit warmer here. I don't know if they were burnt out on the business of the original location in regards to the size of it or what.<br/><br/>There was a line at this one too when we went, but it moved pretty quickly.<br/><br/>Other reviewers nailed it. The doughnuts here are just ok. They feature fairly unique toppings which make it nice, but to my knowledge none of their doughnuts will blow you away and make you say "oh my gosh!"<br/><br/>The two that disappointed me most were the Maple Bacon Bar which was tedious and sported way overcooked bacon atop and their large, but truly insipid Memphis Mafia which is very similar yet very different from an Apple Fritter. I also had one of their infamous "Voodoo Doughnuts" and it was just ok at best. It was a regular raspberry filled doughnut with Chocolate and food color infused Vanilla frosting with a small pretzel stick poked through it...cute, but meh!<br/><br/>If you've never been here and are a tourist then it's most definitely worth one visit just to say you did it, but don't expect to be impressed by their product....other than the options of course.<br/><br/>They only accept cash here so you can leave your card in your wallet.<br/><br/>The owner is ordained so if he is there (like on the TV show) you can get officially married here if you want.

Every time I've visited VooDoo I am greates by rude, cocky employees and stale overpriced donuts. I've been in Portland my whole life and I prefer grocery store donuts to this place. It's too touristy for me.
THE Foodie Gem
Touristy, but do it anyway. As is often the case, hype can ruin an otherwise decent food experience. This almost happened at Voodoo. My wife and I were planning to go to the downtown location, but a ridiculous line scared us away. We were fortunate enough to come to this location and encounter a minimal line. The decor is definitely....weird. My biggest complaint with Voodoo is the lack of a description for each donut in the store. If I didn't have my smartphone to look on their website, my wife and I would've been utterly confused, as Old Dirty Bastard and Memphis Mafia aren't very descriptive. Here's the deal with the doughnuts: They're decent doughnuts spruced up with cool toppings. While I enjoyed my Mango Tango and Old Dirty Bastard, I felt like exotic and cool toppings were covering for average doughnuts. <br/><br/>Bottom line: Definitely go, but expect novelty, not exceptional doughnuts. I wouldn't recommend waiting in line for more than 15 mins.<br/>ALSO: They only take cash, so come prepared.
James Hutchison
Voodoo Doughnuts is definitely an interesting place. It fits nicely with the idea of "Keep Portland Weird", in a good way. I've had a chance to try many of their donuts as I typically buy a "Voodoo Dozen" where they pick the doughnuts for me. I really like the bacon maple bar, though I think it could be improved upon by using thick cut bacon from a butcher shop (just my opinion), but I still love it. Being one who believes in peanut butter & chocolate always tasting good, I love and recommend the "Old Dirty Bastard". Anyone who likes the combo should try it. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, I recommend regular ordering of the Voodoo Dozen in order to try as many different kinds as possible.

Voodoo Too .... I'm True Blue. This is my "go to" spot when the line @ Voodoo downtown is too long .... today I drove by and the line on 3rd & Burn was around the block ... not a plus on a day with on & off rain showers & temps in the 40s .... So I hit the Burnside bridge, drove down to 15th & Davis & pulled into the Voodoo Too parking lot (free parking! short line! wait inside! same doughnuts!) and within about 20 minutes I left with a Voodoo Dozen & two Memphis Mafias and a couple of "That's Peachy" peach fritters (one of which got 1/2 devoured before I even hit the I-5 freeway south to make the 45 min. drive to Salem!). <br/>The atmosphere @ Voodoo Too isn't as .... quirky .... as original Voodoo, but I don't mind waiting in the doughnut line inside a nice heated building, listening to great eclectic tunes especially on a cool, gray, wet Portland afternoon! And, added bonus, the place reeked of bacony deliciousness as they were frying up bacon for the famous bacon maple bars. I can't describe the wonderful aroma combo of sweet, fried dough and crackling bacon......<br/>Oh --- and if you're lucky, you may catch owners, Cat Daddy or Tres, officiating a wedding. If you're there, they invite you to stay & witness --- definitely a highlight for my teen son on one of our many visits!

It has been a long time since I was both in PDX and got voodoo donuts. Bacon maple bar rocks anything with bacon is better. Some of the best donuts I have ever had.
Tony Doxtater
DO YOU VOODOO??? I DO!!!. I pick up two Voodoo dozen boxes about once a month for the office workers on Friday. Great and creative donuts!
Jen
Much doughnut love for them!. When I visit Portland, I always have to stop in for some Voodoo Doughnuts. My all time favorite is the buttermilk bar. It's super soft on the inside, has the perfect buttermilk flavor and just the right amount of glaze! My 2nd favorite is the Mexican hot chocolate; a chocolate cake donut rolled in a spicy sugar blend. The thing I love about their donuts is that they are not sickenly sweet, like most places. They don't leave me feeling sick on sugar afterwards. Here's what I think of some of the other donuts on their menu: The Portland Creme has a healthy dose of sweet bavarian creme on the inside, the donut itself is super soft, and the chocolate frosting is super chocolatey. The Diablos Rex is a super chocolatey cake doughnut with chocolate frosting, red sprinkles, and a vanilla pentagram. It is definitely worthy of a chocolate craving. And a glass of milk. The Dirt doughnut is a raised glazed with vanilla frosting and crushed oreos. I love the texture and softness of the raised glazed. The crushed oreos are a nice contrast! The Memphis Mafia is an Elvis inspired banana fritter topped with chocolate frosting, peanut butter, peanuts, and chocolate chips. It's the best tasting banana fritter I've ever had. My only complaint is that it needs more peanut butter! Also tried a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate frosting and heath bar sprinkled on top. It was really good, too! Next time, I want to try the Old Dirty Bastard and Dirty Snowball! :-)
AguaDeSiesta
Groovy. We went to voodoo doughnuts at 9pm on a friday night and were greeted with a full line of all sorts of people. Always a good sign. Although we had to wait 20 minutes, a great playlist of the Beatles played, and good people watching passed the time quickly. The girl behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. The doughnuts, while perhaps not the absolute best I've had, are extremely tasty and the variety is unmatched. The options are numerous and very enjoyable to browse. It was almost as fun to pick out our donuts as it was to eat them. I highly recommend the Memphis Mafia and maple bacon bar. The mango tango and mcminnville are also very good. If you're in Portland head to Voodoo Doughnuts .

Why wasn't Voodoo at Bridges to Brew?. Note, eventhough my experience was less than stellar, I am a sucker for watching people from the Midwest gasp in horror or a prim and proper lady from the South drawl about the risque desserts. My Ode to the Bacon Maple Bar...how your delectable goodness called out to my carb-aching body...I answered your siren call at 0530, waited in line, a line at nearly 6am in the morning.?!? and was denied by whom I dub the Sisters of the Deep...perhaps these sirens did not wish to invoke the ire of the mob who gathered for a carboloading, but it was gutwrenching to watch the people behind me beg and plead in an almost Faustian way for your bacony goodness and then walk away in disgust. (For real, at 6am, you run out of the item that you are renowned for and you don't have a sign out warning people of this?) I did enjoy the various donuts that I picked out. My friend, however, was not so fortunate...he was seduced by the promise of a tasty gluten-free donut, he asked specifically about cross-contanimation. he was assured there would be none, an hour later, he became sick.. Perhaps, you forgot to wash your hands or you picked out the wrong donut, goth princess of the cash register? Sadly, there was no joy in Portland, mighty Bacon Maple Bar had run out.
Guf
Long wait but just going there was an event. Everyone should try it at least once. Odb was good but I have had better. But they do have some crazy ones worth trying.
John
Worth waiting twenty minutes in line to get the bacon maple bar and the cereal topped raised. So freaking good.
Hungryguy
Not worth the DOUGH-nut. Unimpressive and not worth the wait. Stood in line for about an hour. Seems like it has a very loyal following, but I am not sure why. The doughnuts are good, not great, just good. Their specialty seems to be original flavored doughnuts which mostly seem to be normal everyday doughnuts with toppings so original you can find them at your grocery store in the cereal isle. Go to Krispy Kreem and get a better made doughnut, then sprinkle your favorite cereal on it and save yourself the wait. I will give them credit for having the guts to have a cream filled doughnut shaped like male genitalia, and named as such on the menu.
Justin
Cool selection, but tastes just ok. This place is popular because they have a good selection and cool decor. Not to mention that they've been on 2 or 3 tv shows... However, the doughnuts themselves are not anything special and only taste ok.
Angela W.
Too FUN!. Great atmosphere! As far as I am concerned, a doughnut is a doughnut; however, at voodoo they have all of these crazy-looking, gaudy and creative concoctions with lucky charms, and captain crunch topping them off (among other great things), making it a fabulous place to get coffee and a doughnut. Not to mention the 5 gallon buckets of day-olds behind the counter that are just fun to look at. LOVED it...& I was with great company. How can you beat that! A must-go in Portland.
Aubrey Cee
Well first off, yes went there b/c of food network. And it was our second time going b/c thr line was too long the first time. We ended up waiting about 30minutes b/c of one cashier and a family from out of town asking a million and one questions holding up the line. Anyways, the atmosphere was different and fun. The wait was a bit long for doughnuts, but hey had to try the bacon maple bar. The dude that helped us was cool and nice probably b/c we knew what we wanted. The workers seem to have loads of fun. However, they closed a register to stock drinks that already had a sufficient supply. So when u go expect to wait... Especially if they only have one cashier at the front while the rest of the fun loving staff are in the back making jokes and doughnuts while you wait there in an awkward snake like line debating why ur waiting in line so long for food and why people do not know what they want after waiting in the afformentioned line. Now for the actual doughnuts, we ordered a couple bacon maple bars (which r suprisngly good). It's like eating French toast and bacon drizzles in syrup. An apple fritter which is sorely lacking apples. And a few other assorted which were average at best. The worst one was the captain crunch donut b/c the cereal gets stale. Disappointing :(. We really wanted to like the donuts, but unfortunately we did not. It was nothing spectacular about the donuts themselves. The atmosphere was fun and entertaining and different. But this is about food ratings. And if there is no line check it out otherwise head on over to krispy kreme and get a dozen for less than voodoo.
Joni
Chocolaty Bits of Bliss. We compared Voodoo to Tonallis today - chocolate raised doughnuts. Swung by Tonallis and got a few doughnuts (had to ask if the chocolate bars were chocolate or maple because the chocolate was so light in color, I couldn't tell). Yes, this is a Voodoo review - hang in there!<br/><br/>Then we took our little bag of doughnuts over to Voodoo Too on Davis. The line was so long, we decided to forgo the comparison and just enjoy our tasty treats in the car in the parking lot. After one bite, we just had to go get in that line (it was out the door)! The Tonallis doughnuts were not impressive - the chocolate hardly had any chocolate flavor and the doughnuts were almost stale tasting (this was about 3 in the afternoon), with not a lot of flavor.<br/><br/>After waiting through the long line at Voodoo, we did a head to head comparison, and there truly was no contest. The Voodoo doughnuts were sweet and chocolaty, and just perfect! The Tonallis were weak tasting, and not at all satisfying.<br/><br/>Even at 3pm, with a line out the door that seemed to be that way for a while, Voodoo Too had a full case of fresh doughnuts.

Hit and Miss. Most nights they have some of the best doughnuts I've had in Bridgetown but other nights, meh. <br/><br/>It comes down to the dough, is it airy with a yeasty chewey sweetness or is it like biting into a crumbly biscuit dipped in sugar? Consistency although above average for a non-chain is a problem.
Gina Bixby
Voodoo Boo. I've taken my son on a misguided late-night trip to the original Voodoo Doughnut on 3rd, which proved a bit much for him in terms of atmosphere, so we decided to try the newer version, which I'd heard was more of a traditional doughnut shop, with tables and chairs. I figured there'd be less chaos and more time to really make a good selection. With a line behind you extending halfway down the block, you really tend to feel pressure to choose quickly, and not ask many questions when you get to the counter. <br/><br/>There was still a bit of a line, and other than the unique decorating of the doughnuts, I still fail to see any difference in quality or taste compared to what you might pick up at the grocery store bakery. This isn't someplace I'd venture much out of my way to go to just for the doughnuts - while it's interesting to see bacon atop a maple bar, or fruit loops decorating the top of another, I never order those. In fact, the cute pumpkin we ordered had pumpkin flavored filling which neither of us cared for... so next time I'll know to take the time to inquire as to the filling.<br/><br/>However, keeping in mind the unconventionality factor and the season, this was a good choice - it being near to Halloween and all, and there is a bit more to be said for the family-friendliness of this version as compared to the original. It makes going out for a doughnut something of an occasion. <br/><br/>It was becoming dark and stormy as we left and we discovered an ivy-man against the fence that perimeters the parking lot - decorated like one of their jelly-filled voodoo men, complete with the stake through the heart! <br/><br/>Overall I'd recommend it - for what it is, something unique to Portland and different - as long as you aren't expecting anything well above-average as far as the actual product, you won't be disappointed.

The bacon maple bar might be the best single food item on earth. This is the third time i have been to voodoo and it is always a good time.

Kind of in an Industrial area, but nonetheless the Doughnuts still Great!. Maple Bar with Beacon strips on top...if I ever have to make a choice for my last meal on earth, this would definitely be one of my choices...<br/><br/>Went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed, maybe about a 20 minute wait to get to the counter. This was our first experience at Voodoo Doughnuts and they did not disappoint. This place is quirky and totally the opposite of a Krispy Kreme. Nothing at Voodoo is standard or normal and that's what makes this place great!

Are you experienced?. I think these guys have a couple things working against them. Primarily alot of backlash from the hype that surrounds the place (which is not their fault), coupled with long lines that take the fun out of the donuts before you even taste them. Personally I would never wait in line more than 10 minutes for ANY food. I simply dont see the point. I'm not on a desert island that only has one restaurant. So, when I finally had a moment to check them out I went when there was no line. Hence; avoiding pitfall #1. People also say that theyre overpriced. But what youre paying for here is not really just the donuts, but the atmosphere and originality that going into "designing" them. <br/>Anyhow, I kept it simple and ordered an Apple Fritter. My wife got a glazed, speckled with pieces of Oreo cookie and Peanut Butter drizzle. Those bites were yummo. The 'guts' of the donuts were nothing special, as other people have said; they were very average. But, they were fun to eat. I wasnt exactly expecting my head to explode from the ecstasy of eating an Apple Fritter. <br/>Like I said, Voodoo Donuts is an experience, of which the donuts are just one part. The bizarre patio, artwork and overall kitsch of the place should be enjoyed as much as anything else. If youre not into all that then go to Winchell's. END<br/>Oh yeah, and to those that complain that they are always running out of donuts; its a donut shop not a donut factory. On any given day they probably sell more food than anyone else in the city, so yeah, they run out of stuff. Deal with it<br/><br/><br/>B- (Apple Fritter needed more Apple)

Cool gimmick, mediocre doughnuts. I love this place's shtick. It is certainly something worth experiencing. However, the doughnuts are just okay. They taste like your average, cheap doughnuts. I would go here again with the six year-old that I nanny to make her happy, but never on my own.

They like to run out of donuts. I like Voodoo Donuts. I LOVE the choco and peanut butter donuts. However, every time I go there, they are running out of donuts. It seems really stupid to have only 1 person making donuts on a Saturday night (your busiest night!). On top of that, if you only have cake donuts out, why are you in the back, continuing to make more cake donuts, when people are asking for other kinds? <br/>The last time I went there, everyone was really ticked off. You never know what they will have out. Sometimes they have my favorites, but other times I get stuck with a crappy donut because they don't have enough staff making donuts. <br/>Overall, I don't recommend going there unless you are the kind of person who will be happy with whatever donut they happen to have out.

Let down. Ok after all the hype about this place AND waiting in line, in the rain for 35 minutes what I ended up with wasn't what I was expecting. All the donuts we wanted they were out of. We ended up getting the dozen they pick, which is ok, but hardly worth the effort to get. The shop was cool but the staff was really less than friendly, but at least now I can say, yes I've been to voodoo. I'd go back but maybe if there are no 35 minute lines.

Don't see what all the fuss is about. If you like doughnuts in the shape of male genitalia or covered with Froot Loops cereal, then this might be the place you've been dreaming of. Otherwise it's just like every other stale greasy doughnut shop you've ever been too.

Fun and interesting, but the doughnuts disappoint.

Not So Great:(. I was really disappointed in the doughnuts. We went to the one off of Sandy Blvd. and it smelled like grease that had been sitting out to long. The doughnuts tasted exactly like it smelled in the restaurant which was bad. To make things worse the customer service was really bad.

You get this burst of sweetness from the maple then this savouriness of the bacon. Whoever, invented this donut is a pure genius.

Even though I'm not a doughnut person, a visit to Voodoo Doughnut was a must for our Portland itinerary.

What do you do when you have a bit of spare time outside of your travel schedule? You go get Voodoo Doughnuts. Everyone’s heard of it, yepp it’s the famous voodoo magic infused doughnuts made popular from their crazy and unique menu choices. Sadly, since they haven’t expanded outside Portland, the only way to get a taste of these fried rings is to visit the city. These doughnuts are massive but who cares, I bought four of them- the maple bacon, vanilla Oreo, M&M, and strawberry glazed chocolate doughnut . With the abundance of sugar and craziness, these doughnuts do pack a punch, I think I started getting sugar rushes after eating half of a doughnut. I wouldn’t say the doughnuts are especially good tasting (I’d prefer Krispy Kremes over these) but the flavours are just so interesting and fun. Plus, the price you pay for one of these giant things is crazy cheap. *Queue rant about pricey Vancouver things* I’ve hear from a lot of people that the maple bacon is a must have and I agree!

The first one we decided to go to was Voodoo donuts because we heard they had dozens of donuts to choose from there. Originally we were going to go to “Voodoo doughnuts” instead of “Voodoo doughnuts Too” because we were in that neighbourhood first but we had a hard time finding it and when we did…it didn’t seem like an area of Portland where I would want to walk out on the street and go there by myself…just a tad too sketchy for me :(

Voodoo Doughnut is well know all the way from Portland up to Vancouver. It’s famous for their crazy doughnut creations and equally crazy line ups. On our way out of Portland we stopped by Voodoo Doughnut Too (their second location), around 2 pm on a Wednesday and there was still maybe a 15 minute wait. The staff was very friendly and happily suggested an assortment of doughnuts so that we got to try a large variety of what they had to offer. We got a large box of doughnuts and took it on the rode with us, eating 3 on the way up and then sharing the other 9ish with family and then with friends in the parking lot of our favourite pub. I’m not going to comment on all of the doughnuts that we got, as I ate them a while ago, don’t have pictures of all of them, and only ate a bite or two of some of them. My favourites were The Portland Cream, the Blueberry Cake Doughnut, and Apple Fritter. Overall I would say that the doughnuts are good, but not the best you can get in Portland, but their c

Bacon Maple Bar. Many others include luminaries as Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern may enjoy it but I personally didn't. It was overly sweet and the bacon didn't doesn't synchronize with it. Bacon may make everything taste better but it didn't work here. The doughnut was fresh even though it was probably baked hours earlier. My big gripe was the cost at $3. Really?<br/>

I was most impressed with the glazed donut as it had been a while since I had had one and it was just as good as I remember glazed donuts being. This donut rocked my world.

So, I have seen several food network and and travel shows that talk about this unique little doughnut shop, now serving several location in Oregon. So I stopped in for a visit, after having a solid experience with the Bacon Maple Ale at Rogue Brewery, I was eager to try the doughnut that inspired it! I stopped by one of their Portland locations and tried the staple Voodoo Doughnut with the Voodoo Doll and a Pretzel stabbed through his heart. delicious, filled with raspberry filling. All of these treats were fantastic, definitely a recommended Portland staple...

There’s a lot of kitschy stuff all over the store including a mini coffin that you can purchase filled with doughnuts.

Good things come in pink boxes. Take that as you will and experience Voo Doo Doughnuts. If you’re looking for a gourmet Lucky’s doughnut, you’ll probably have to look elsewhere. Voo Doo has a great kitsch to it and it’s unapologetic for making sinful treats that make grown men cry. Their signature doughnut has got to be their Voo Doo Doll ($1.95), shaped in an unfortunate little monster filled with raspberry jelly and a pretzel stake through it’s mid section. Other flavours include the Bacon Maple Bar ($3),Diablos Rex ($1.75), Maple Blazer Blunt, Cock-N-Balls (seriously, I’m not making this up) and much more. If you let them choose your doughnuts, it’s slightly cheaper ($11.25) but you can definitely choose the flavours you want. My favourite of the bunch if their Apple Fritter ($2.25). The apple fritters are bigger than my face. How anyone can eat one to themselves is beyond me. The reason I like this one the most is that it’s nice and crispy on the outside with a nice layer of glaze

What can I say, I wanted another of those amazing Mango Tango doughnuts. And I had to get another Bacon Maple Bar since they had just put out a fresh batch. The Tween actually wanted her own Voodoo Bubble this time, and her sister decided that she needed one as well. The roommate had a Raspberry Romeo, the same kind she had on her first trip to Portland and had to throw half of it away as she was boarding the plane. Call it unfinished business, I suppose. Oh, I did get a Portland Cream to have with my coffee at home the next morning. You know, maybe it's a good thing that I don't live closer to Portland.

Donuts may be the sweet that gets Portland the most attention. Almost everybody has heard of Voodoo Doughnut, the quirky shop that whips up breakfast pastries adorned with a Willy Wonka avalanche of candy and breakfast cereal. If you haven't, Google Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson and Tres Shannon's shop - just about everybody has been there.

There are times that restaurants will do almost anything to get an edge over its competitors. Adding something extra can entice customers to come.

Not far from Lucia, I meant to make Voodoo a late-night stop (the best time to go to see the colorful characters), but the food coma from Tanuki dashed those intentions. Still, even in the middle of the day, there was quite a line, and quite a scene. I lo
