Review Aj's Wings - Portales

I can't really say much about the place except they don't show their prices and when you ask, you are put on the spot to ask about each item you might consider, and then I find out that it is $12 for 6 wings and nothing comes with that. She says "pandemic" and that's supposed to make it right, but really, chicken is the one thing that hasn't gone up in price much. Anyway, I gave it three stars because it looks like a nice place for people who don't have to worry about how much money they spend there. And I was able to park out front whole I walked around town, even though it's like a ghost town on Sunday.

$15 for a 5-piece Chicken Strips with fries warranted a review. Good: Portion was large though I’m sure for most including myself it was too large. The sauces were also good. Bad: The $15 strips were frozen. Hand-breaded would be what I’d expect for the price. The fries were soggy and best described as “meh”. I’d say I could’ve spent the total $23 including tip at a better restaurant.

Passing thru town and this place was totally worth the stop. Huge portions and great sauces. Chicken and fries were perfect. And so was the fried pickles and mushrooms.

We have been to AJ’s multiple times. We’re not locals but we do stop in when passing through. However, the last few times we have noticed a substantial increase in price each time. Their food is great but quickly becoming way overpriced. This trip we ordered 2 sets of wings (6 & 8 piece), cheese sticks, fries, and 3 bottled drinks (only option) and the total w/o tip was $73. For this reason we won’t be back-it’s a shame because we did really enjoy this restaurant.

Most of my deductions are for prices.$ 3.19 for a 20 oz tea!!!! The fries were soggier than wet noodles; every respectable restaurant knows not to put hot steamy fries in a plastic bag.

Didn’t expect the prices to be so high. I understand the national wing shortage, but you could go anywhere else and get wings cheaper and save yourself the drive to Portales. Plus the non-working soda fountain and no beer are also reasons to go elsewhere. I used to love this place but unfortunately I won’t be back.

Great wings and many kinds of sauce. The monster mozzarella sticks are awesome.

The prices were a little higher than their website and a lot higher than what's listed on Google. They messed up our order a bit too. However, the food was really good, they gave us a LOT of fries, and were generous during the Halloween on the square!
