Breakfast last weekend. My son had French fries and I had corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns. My son liked the fries and the cook brought them out. They were crinkle cut and they were cooked perfectly. I love corned beef hash but I shouldn’t have ordered it. I like it very crispy and I didn’t mention it when ordering. The over easy eggs were great and hash browns were crispy on top.

This is the greatest little gem! My wife and I were traveling from Michigan and stopped in for breakfast based on reviews. So glad we did!! The staff are amazing! The food was cooked to order and delish!!!!!! If we lived here. This would be our new hangout. I was legit taking pics of the sweet 1930s stools and our waitress and cook hugged. Such a sweet moment. The cook even took a pic of our food because we custom ordered.

Absolutely amazing staff!! Food was cooked to order and was perfection! ( Ask to turn a Omelette into a skillet ☺️) Coffee was great and our cups never went empty. We are out of state travelers, but we will certainly be back again when in the area. Highly recommend!

We used to love going here for breakfast. Always had great service and food. It seems like it's under new ownership and the food isn't as good. The wait is long, like an hour for breakfast with only 4 other tables occupied. Cook appears to only cook 1 ticket at a time.
Took 3 tries to make a pancake...a pancake at a breakfast place...and it wasn't good.
Gave them the benefit of the doubt the first couple times we went but 3 times in a row, we probably won't be back.
Server was very good though.

It was fun to watch the chef create the food into perfection! Hands down the best breakfast we have ever had and we have went to many cafés for breakfast. Friendly staff and at home feel is a side bonus.

Farm fresh eggs, sweet batter pancakes, and bacon like it was meant to be. Be patient, look around at the vintage newspapers. Drink in the luncheonette vibe. This is absolutely the best place to while away the day in Portage.

We love trying out little local restaurants/diners like this when we travel and are rarely disappointed. This was one of those rare times. It took about an hour to get our food after we ordered and the waitress never came to check on us or refill our drinks while we waited for our food. The food was nothing special and the pancakes were under cooked and the sausages were overcooked on the outside but only lukewarm on the inside. I hate to leave a poor review, but the Portage Cafe really needs to step it up. We will not stop there again.

We sat 30+ mins for food. People ordered before us and got their food right away and finished their food and our food hasn’t been started yet. A semi large door dash order came in awhile after ours and the cook decided to put door dash before our order. Also chef doesn’t wear gloves to cook or touch food. Eggs should be in ice bath and not sit on counter next to grill.
