Review Schoops Hamburgers - Portage

I was really excited to try Schoop's for the first time. The food was just okay. We liked the flavor of the burgers, but the service was poor. The whole place just seemed like it was run by teenagers and needs to be managed better. I went inside and bought a milkshake and a few burgers to-go. We went on the later side, so it didn't seem like there was a huge dinner rush happening. The bill ended up being over $60... Definitely too pricey. After I finished paying, the young girl at the front said "oh yeah it'll be like 30+ minutes". This was surprising - I definitely wasn't expecting that long of a wait, and I felt she should have communicated that information before I finished paying. But nonetheless, we sat down and waited. Despite telling me the food would take 30+ minutes, I noticed an employee made the milkshake right away and just left it sitting behind the counter, melting, waiting for our food. Pretty silly to make the shake first, and even sillier to leave it out without even coming over a few feet to hand it to us. Overall the food and experience wasn't worth the money (I literally got like 10 fries with my burger). We definitely won't be returning.

Best burgers in NWI. First time going was yesterday and I'll definitely be going very soon. If you like steak n shake you'll love schoops burger. From the fresh topping to the hand pressed large beef pattie which fits on the ENITRE bun. Only thing that kinda threw me off was I've never been served a bowl of chili with just straight nacho cheese in it. I definitely would've preferred shredded cheddar in the chili.

Loved it the place was very clean and.the people were nice. Service was fast .I would recommend for anyone to go check out... very good experience and will be going back... looking forward to have a great experience nest time. exactly the burgers and fries.... Located in the middle of a great spot.. stop and eat some more and you go back.Watch

I haven't been to a Schoop's in more than a decade (18 years, if memory serves). I must say that my experience with the Portage IN location was most excellent! Food came fast and hot! The burgers were considerably larger and better than I remember, though a little over cooked for my tastes, but delicious none the less. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. I also had the Spit Pea Soup with ham (soup of the day) which was superb. The onion rings were prepared as perfectly as possible, hot, crisp on the outside, tender onion on the inside. Lastly, the Peanut Butter and Banana milk shake was just...😋😋😋😋😋😋. Our server was equally great and saw to all our requests promptly. Thank you for a great experience!

Who doesn't like Schoops? Best hamburger anywhere! Order the Special hamburger, two patties, load it with toppings, get a great milk shake! You won't regret it! French fries are fabulous! Get them crisp!

I just have to share how jacked up this is. I order the Mickey burger (Which comes with fries) I told them I would like onion rings instead of fries, no problem....I get my bill and it has 6.00 charge for onion rings ...I went up to pay for my food and mentioned it and they said ..Yeah you see that .50 credit ? That was for not getting the fries. OMG ARE YOU KIDDING ME .I loved this place and never thought they did business like this. lost my business today

I enjoyed my experience at Schoop's. The Chicken club was amazing, and unlike most Schoop's locations, they included fries with the food. Our server Tony was incredible. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!

Oh my God it couldn't gotten any better. Coming back for breakfast tomorrow. We went back for breakfast the next morning and it was better than the best burger I have ever had in my life this place is wonderful it's definitely a must go to place. The staff is also friendly, the place is very clean I highly recommend us using eating joint loving

Stopped in close to closing (which I know many places hate) Everyone was amazing and the place looked great! Assured us to take our time and there was no need to rush...Great server & awesome cook as always!

Judging by the other reviews on this page, it seems to be hit or miss with staff, service, or food. However, our family's first ever visit to a Schoop's was great! Our server was great, friendly gal, kept our drinks full. Food came out correct, was hot and fresh! My burger was fantastic and my wife's patty melt was the same! I'm sure if we're near a Schoop's in the future, we will dine again!

Best Schoop's Around. Y(es they are all great... ) Stuffed pepper soup great... in addition to best burgers and best shakes.

Great place nice people and the food is as leads good. Down side is cleanliness. I go to the one in michigan city indiana and absolutely love how clean that location is.

Most discussting excuse for a hamburger in my life, and 14.00 later they just burnt the hell out of the meat, the fries, and deep fried the bacon to an unrecognizable crisp. And not even any response from the help when I complained, they were like oh well. To bad for you

Wonderful crispy edges with a cherry coke- yum. All the from St. Louis to Postage to get a Schools.

The waitress needs to be re-trained or something, seriously. Worst waitress ever. Didn't write down what we ordered correctly, had to ask me if I wanted my grilled cheese toasted and then asked me what kind of bread I wanted for my fish sandwich.. uhm.. a bun like it's supposed to have?? My order came to the table wrong... We ordered 3 shakes, which didn't come until AFTER our food came. So my kids were antsy the entire time waiting.. this isn't the first bad experience there. It's the 4th just this year alone. Absolutely ridiculous and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to the portage location.

So glad we had dinner here last night. Great food & Great service.
