Review Depot Hot Dogs - Portage

We visited this place because someone put up a bad review. Don't know what you were thinking. This place is first class. Staff was great. Food came out quick. Chili dog spot on. Polish dog was one of the best we've ever had. Great prices in this economy.

Great little Hot Dog stand with the usual favorites. From hot dogs to Maxwell Street Polish to Italian Beef. Fast friendly service and reasonable prices.

Quaint roadside eatery with plenty of outdoor seating. Food was simple but superb! Cash only establishment and very affordable.

Very convenient lunch spot right outside the West Beach entrance of Indiana Dunes National Park. The outside dining that's dog friendly is a plus. Just be sure to have your dog on leash and sit on the picnic tables on the grass and not the patio. Love the fact that all hot dogs come with fries! This seems to be a common theme in the Chicago area. Not complaining at all because who doesn't love fries with their meals!

Not too great. Ordered a lemonade and got some weird green drink which I didn't drink at all. The hot dogs are ok and the polish is edible. Fries were seasoned poorly. It may be time to close shop.

I wanted to love this place but I ordered my food to go and one of our dogs had a hair in it. The attendants were not super nice for this place being local. They only accept cash as well. Since I had already left I did not feel like there was a reason to go back for this to be fixed because the French fries were not good either

Pleasant environment, terrible staff. They messed up our order and refused to correct it. Literally stared at me like “blink blink blink” when I was explaining we received the wrong food item. Perhaps your window workers should write down orders correctly. 0/10 customer service. Not supporting this business after our Indiana Dunes visits. Edit 6/14: Wow. What a response. I lead customer service for my company and we are ranked one of the highest on Trust Pilot in the nation for our field. I can assure you, managing your business and customer service escalations in this manner is doing more harm for you than it is for me. I am giggling over a $5 hotdog. Explaining to your team that the order was written down wrong should not illicit such a confused, disorderly, defensive response. Kitchen staff— great job! You made a fantastic Chicago dog. The problem is my boyfriend did not order a Chicago dog. The man taking orders misunderstood him. But, alas, this Indiana local hot dog stand seems to be very pressed. Wish you all the best. Also—telling someone they are not welcome back on Google is showing the world how you decide to operate. Please spend less time writing paragraphs on Google reviews and more time explaining to your team that listening to your customers who are saying the man wrote down the order wrong should be a very very very very easy fix… Y’all truly are self-righteous.

Just the absolute sweetest people, and outstanding food. Depot Dog is where my daughter is having her first post-beach hot dog, and I hope to return after every visit!
