By far my favorite place to eat..... my wife and I live in Bel Air, MD so it's a nice little drive through the country and along the Susquehanna River to get to. We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary here (May 2016) and have been in love with the place ever since. This Sunday's menu was brunch restricted, but I was able to avoid breakfast food by ordering the oyster imperial. Incredible dish that was filling enough for me to talk about for the rest of the day. My wife had a salad and the shrimp quesadilla, which were both right on point. Keep up the great work Chef Bob!!
This review isn't going to do this place justice.
If you haven't gone to BackFin Blues restaurant in Port Deposit you are missing out in life.
I can't remember a time I've had a better overall restaurant experience. The sever/bartender/General Manager was one of the best servers we have ever had. The rest of the staff works as a team. Random servers clearing plates and grabbing refills. Amazing staff. The drinks were a 10/10. Had Abita Purple Haze and My wife had pineapple Moscow mule. We started with crab and artichoke dip and a roasted red pepper crab soup. Both were unlike anything I've ever had. Twists on a common app and soup that were incredible. We were given side salads with a homemade pepper parm that was amazing. My wife had a scallop dish that was one of the best she's ever had. I had twin crab cakes. Everything down to the cocktail sauce was made in house. I mean the cocktail sauce was fresh crushed tomatoes with seasonings and horseradish. I can go on and on. Trust me this is a top 3 restaurant I have ever been to. Maybe the best. It wasn't close. Must try.
I think that the reason my wife and I do like dining at the bar is there is an energy there that is not found at your separate table. It is not for everybody...but being Irish and having enjoyed immensely the experience of the pubs ,taverns, and restaurants in Ireland, I find it more "authentically "relaxed. No one has their guard up. Conversations with fellow bar sitting types and the dynamite bartender, Rob, are just friendlier. None of this would mattersif the food coming out of the kitchen were not great...but it is!!. Love this restaurant..it is cozy and if you like people and a great menu, particularly strong with seafood, this is the place for you..situated near the banks of the Susquehanna and that is cool too(Wikipedia tells me that it is the 2nd oldest river in the world!!)
Absolutely love this restaurant. My parents introduced me to it and then to my husband. Now we drive up from Bel Air just to enjoy a great meal. I have been here at least 6 times and have loved every single meal. The owner/chef is a wonderful cook and very nice. My husband, parents and I are always impressed by this place and it makes the drive very much worth it. I love to cook myself, and there are a lot of dishes I wish I could make from this place. Just ate another great meal to celebrate an early birthday dinner there tonight. Thanks Backfin Blues! This place is my favorite.

One of our favorite places and our go to place for special occasions. Friendly staff and amazing food! We’ve had great meals for dinner in the past. Yesterday went for a birthday brunch. My daughter had Chesapeake Eggs Benedict, me the Oscar Omelet and my husband one of the specials crab and mushroom omelet. Each one was fantastic! We had to do a bit of sharing as we all wanted to try each others.
Our family of four stopped there today after a visit to Conowingo. I had the crab cake sandwich (excellent!) and I appreciated that bun was a light brioche-style and didn’t overwhelm the sandwich as sometime happens. My kids both had the French toast with Bananas Foster (I had some - delicious!) and my husband had the fish and chips. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating and the owner even walked around and greeted all the patrons. We will definitely be back!
I have never been to a place where EVERYONE was so friendly! The food, drinks, and atmosphere was so worth the hour drive!! I CANNOT wait to go back! They was more than willing to accomodate my finicky eating habits! Such a fun and quaint place!
What to say but another fabulous meal with awesome service at Backfin Blues. The atmosphere, the drinks, the meal, the back drop of the river at sunset, the music playing ever so quietly in the background, you can't go wrong. We're mostly brunchers at Backfin but glad we came for dinner. Hands down our favorite restaurant. See you next Sunday for brunch
Back-fin Blues knows how to serve a fantastic meal! A perfect way to complete a hard week at work. The food and service is excellent. The ambiance at the restaurant is special. But the food is always the best! I recommend the Chilean sea bass or the blackened barramundi.!
The food is always delicious here, but the ambience, attentive staff and friendly chef make it a five star experience.
Love this place! The food is excellent! Gretchen & Sarah are the best
.I swear we cannot get enough of this place. I had the Filet Louie over Valentines week. If you like food that will make you feel good for 24 hours, this is the place. Chef Bob Steele is awesome!
My husband and I visited last night for our 18th Anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish. The crab and lobster soups were delicious. My husband devoured his mussels appetizer and said it was the best swordfish he’s ever had!! I enjoyed my wedge salad and soup. The waitress was very attentive and full of personality. We will definitely be returning.
Great place!! Staff and servers are super friendly and accommodating! Have been here for brunch both times and the food was GREAT both times!
Another fabulous experience at Backfin Blues tonight. Food was on point, waitress (Bailey) was such a pleasure. We love this place, if you haven’t been, go! You will not regret it.
My wife and I invited another couple with us who had never been to Backfin. As always the service was incredible. It wasn’t just our server worried about us, the entire staff checked in. The restaurant stated that they were understaffed but that did not seem to matter. Food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. The food was outstanding as always. What made the dinner was our server, Coral. She had a bubbling personality and was very attentive. If you have not been to Backfin Blues yet or have forgotten about this Port Deposit gem, be sure to stop in. Food, drinks, and service were 10/10!
Delicious dinner. Always very good. I highly recommend this place. Staff is super great and friendly.
We had a birthday dinner with friends. This was a full course, relaxed event with drinks, appetizers, salads, dinner and a cake which we brought with is. The food was perfect! Our waitress was attentive. The restaurant is small and noisy, and patrons were dressed casual to evening attire. We had a wonderful time, and the only complaint is that it took too long for our entrees. It was well over an hour from our order time. We will be back though...it is a gem in sleepy Port Deposit.
Nice small specialty restaurant with small menu. Food was very good and plentiful. Only gave it 4* because of price. More adult and wouldn't take kids! Enjoyable evening with family and great service!
We had takeout at this place ( visiting from out of town, staying at an AirBnB). Crab cakes, pork chop, and blackened tuna. Very impressed with the quality of the food. The menu changes each week, so check before you go. One thing I don't love is that they put the menu on Facebook, not a website. I closed my Facebook account down 10 years ago. They should put the menu on their website instead. With as destructive as Facebook has been to our society, you'd think more people would complain about that. You can get a decent website at squarespace for $200/year. The Facebook thing is enough to keep me away. That being said, the food was excellent, one of the better crab cakes I have had. Over the phone the staff was friendly and helpful, they emailed us the menu the night before. Great takeout.
