Waffles were soooo good! Perfectly fluffy and soft. A must try! I’ve never tasted anything like it before. Food was also served quickly despite the restaurant being busy.
The River Grille is a casual restaurant in Wilkes-Barre that offers pub-style fare and views of the Susquehanna river while dining.
We arrived on a Friday evening around 6:30, with threatening rain clouds on the horizon. We were immediately seated in the covered patio section overlooking the river. After a brief shower, we were treated to a declining sun glistening off the water. In addition to the covered patio, the restaurant also has open patio and indoor seating.
Mike, our server, was a gentleman, and gave us honest insights to the menu selections. For starters, I went with the crab pretzel, a soft pretzel topped with crab meat and cheddar cheese. The pretzel was soft and fresh, and the crab very creamy. It was just enough to whet the appetite.
For our entrees, we had the Caprese Ciabatta, which consisted of sliced turkey, roasted tomato, mozzarella, pesto aioli, a balsamic reduction, spring mix, on a rosemary ciabatta roll. The turkey was fresh, and the medley of fixings were flavorful and mouthwatering.
Also enjoyable was the smoked meatloaf sandwich infused with Gouda cheese, topped with roasted garlic black pepper aioli, lettuce, tomato, on a rosemary focaccia roll. The meatloaf, served cold, had a delicious smoky flavor. I never had smoked meatloaf before, but after this dish, I'll be searching for it at many a sandwich shop.
Overall, the River Grille was relaxing and delightful, a perfect way to begin the weekend. The venue also serves brunch, and if the dinner selections were any indication, I'm sure the choices are just as enticing.
Service was bad but aesthetic and drinks were good. Super cute Christmas pop up
Great place for evening sunset dinner or drinks. Food was just OK with limited menu and not a lot of healthy selections.
They have amazing martinis here! Food was excellent!
Always a wonderful experience! Lovely staff and view. Food is delicious. Plenty of seating and parking 😋
There was 4 of us that made reservations for outdoor, we arrived and had a dinner party outside so they placed us indoors which was an inconvenience, however the food and drinks were above par and the atmosphere did spark later into the night around 7 or 8pm...
I’ve been going here for a while now and I absolutely love it. The food is consistently good and the service is great. Specifically my most recent visit, my waitress Stephanie was so attentive and very sweet! Her recommendations really made my visit better.
I've been here before but never for food. Without the crowd you can appreciate the cleanliness of the eating area. The bathrooms could use some work. The food makes up for it. What was ordered:
The hangover burger with side home salad, the Angus burger with coleslaw, and the cran apple salad. Everything is fresh, delicious and well made. My burger didn't come out medium as I preferred but it wasn't dry at all and the ingredients added extra flavor. Polite and attentive staff. Prices were moderate but on the higher side for any seafood dishes. Would come here again.
Super chill spot with a nice view of the river. Interior is clean and the seating was ideal. Food was just ok. The portions were fantastic for the price but just was not as good as I would’ve liked. I just had appetizers though. The truffle fries and the French onion soup. The drinks were good though! Definitely recommend the Aperol spritz.
I stopped in while I was in the area. It was wonderful. It has an old diner feel to it with the wood paneling and spacious dining area. My server was friendly and the food was great. I had the Grille omelet with home fries and it's loaded with ham and sausage. And my toast had a generous amount of butter! I loved it! Everything is better with butter, lol. Great place.
Food was absolutely delicious. View of the river was nice. Prices were great. Didn't try any drinks.
Service was great and the food came out quick! We loved the view of the river. We ordered the caesar fries, the crabcakes, and the jambalaya. All were flavorful and cooked perfectly. Would love to come back next time we are in town.
Brunch here is amazing!! The sorbet mimosa is delish. And the wake and bake is so good. Highly recommend going there. The. Service was great and it's a fun atmosphere.
I have been to RG several times with varying degrees of satisfaction. Sometimes it's been great, other times I've made reservations and stood awkwardly at the counter waiting to be helped for several minutes despite multiple staff walking right by. If it's nice, sit out on the patio, but beware that after 830 on weekends the restaurant tends to shift into bar mode with lots of people standing around.
Food is usually good, though their Nashville Hot Chicken is NOT a hot chicken sandwich. No heat whatsoever.
Always a great experience here! We stopped in for brunch and had two of the main squeeze mimosas. Highly recommend going for the main squeeze because it's made with fresh orange juice. Chicken and waffles is one of my favorite dishes!
