The scallion sauce is unreal! I’ve been trying to recreate the cucumbers with scallion sauce here at my home in Nashville and I just can’t! Whatever they are doing, it’s addictive! I’ll be back when I come home to visit! Chicken Bo Bo is one of my faves as well. 🫶🏼

Enjoyed the really broth-heavy fish and some of the veggies. Definitely an emphasis on szechuan spice which can be a good or bad thing. Some dishes lack certain flavors which make it a little more underwhelming.

Absolutely amazing food. Everything I've ordered has been off the authentic Sichuan menu and it's been great. My favorite so far has been the Sliced Chicken with Mala Chili Sauce. I haven't had Chinese food this good since an authentic restaurant in my home town closed when the owners retired. I don't know what's with the negative reviews about service, but everyone has always been kind and attentive whether I ate there or ordered take out. It's inexpensive as well. Yes, the parking situation isn't great, but that's Squirrel Hill. Also, just a tip, but if you order something with peppers you may get A LOT of peppers. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I am a big fan of Lo Mein, chicken with garlic sauce. The people are very warm and attentive. This is an amazing food place for people who like authentic Chinese cuisine and oh, love the fortune cookie at the end of every meal. My safe bet for Chinese food in North squirrel hill.
They have nice plants too, I know their names. 😃

Loved it as a student years ago. Always ordered Chengdu Spicy Chicken, and dry pot with intestines. Spicy and delicious.
Update 2023:
They changed owner but the Chengdu Spicy Chicken's flavor is unchanged. Still tender inside and fried outside.

Long-standing Asian restaurant in Squirrel Hill that serves both Chinese and authentic Sichuan dishes.
The restaurant is casual and was preparing a lot of take out orders when I arrived for mine. This was my first time trying How Lee and I was intrigued knowing that they have been in business for quite some time.
I really enjoyed the food. It was fresh and tasty. How Lee was a nice change from the usual place I order from.
The eggroll was a little greasy. My favorite was the Shrimp with Broccoli. We also tried the Shrimp Fried Rice, Szechuan Chicken and Sweet Chili Shrimp. All were really good.

Underrated. Not sure why it’s not as populated as other restaurants on the street. Decent food, prices and atmosphere. Honestly great for any occasion.

I really love How Lee. It’s one of my favorite reataurants in Pittsburgh. I usually order one of the noodles(all delicious), home style tofu, and the sichuan style braised fish filets. The fish has bean sprouts, a generous amount of fish and a great sauce. I’m a big fan!

Not your typical American Chinese restaurant, although they do have that if you are interested. I come here for the authentic Szechuan cuisine that they offer. My hands down favorite dish is La Zi Ji (辣子鸡) which is often listed as "Dry/Crispy Hot Chicken". This dish is a Szechuan specialty that I've had here, in San Francisco, and New York. I've yet to try the dish in China, but amongst the American facsimiles that I've had, this is the best one. One note that I will say is that on a recent visit this dish was quite a bit sweeter than it has been in the past, I'm not sure if it was just an off day or what the difference was, but it was better when it wasn't as sweet.
In addition to the La Zi Ji, I always order the Dry Sautéed Green Beans with Pork (干煸四季豆). These green beans remain remarkably crispy, but they are also cooked through with a good amount of saltiness. You can order them without the pork if you are looking for a vegetarian option, but the pork adds a really nice flavor.
Lastly, when I have someone with me that can take the heat, I order the Spicy Fish Soup (水煮鱼). This is a very hot dish and can challenge the most capsaicin tolerant eaters, but it is so good. Unfortunately, they only seem to have one portion size of this soup, and it is enough for 4 or more people to enjoy in my experience. I have ordered it when there are just 2 folks that are eating, but I always end up taking some home, and this is one soup that is best when it is fresh out of the kitchen in my opinion.
So in summary, this is some of the most authentic Szechuan food that I've encountered in the US. Someone that is more experienced in Szechuan food than I am can speak more to the authenticity, but for me I don't go anywhere else.

Absolutely some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Everything was soooo flavourful and wasn't too small portioned. I highly recommend the Chongqing dry hot chicken its one of my new favorite dishes ever. The staff are super friendly and helpful as well and made it a great experience. This is my go-to for Asian food in the burgh. Highly recommend to anyone!
