Essie's Original Hot Dog Shop - Pittsburgh - Photo album

It had been a dream of mine to go here since I was a kid. I finally did. So. Worth. It. Huge portions of salty tasty fries. Cheap drinks. Great dogs. Quiet upstairs with a good view of the streets of Pittsburgh. I loved it and can't wait to go back. It isn't classy, it isn't fancy and if greasy spoo
Its the O!!! Always a crowd pleaser. This place has been around forever and theres no reason not to be. Hot dogs are still good. Fries are off the charts, both size and taste. Seating is plentiful as well as the menu choices. So much history that you need to go either visiting pgh or just in the nei
This was my 1st time there. Food was hot and very good. The server behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. I will go back again!!
Delicious food (especially the fries). I haven't been here in years but it was just as good as I remembered it!
Fantastic food ,giant portions have been there for over 50 years
Best French Fries around! And I have been to plenty of places in several states so I mean serious business
Been going here with my Dad since a young age. Love the original and all beef dogs. They use natural casing as the dogs have a snap to them. The don't skimp on the chilli. The fries were perfectly done super crunchy. Also the fries can feed a family of 5 if you get the large.
Amazing fries. Better than five guys. They don't look like much but they stay crunchy and delicious even when they got cold. The hotdogs were great. I tried the chili dog and the super dog (bacon and cheese) but honestly, I would enjoy them just as much plain with ketchup and mustard. I will come ba
So honestly, I didn't care for their hot dogs. That being said, they truly have the best French fries and cheese sauce in the city. Hands down. The best!! I enjoyed our experience here and would def come back for the fries and cheese.
The ultimate comfort food. Their servings are absolutely enormous, but definitely in a good way. If you're allergic to peanuts I recommend you do not try their fries because they fry them in peanut oil. Other than that, it's a very clean and hip place to be.
Closed on Sunday and I had a great parking space too. Their fries and hotdogs are the best and taste the same way they did when I was in College. Real fresh cut french fries with cheese and ketchup better than I make at home because I didn't have to peel a d cook them.
This place is like mecca for me. Every time I step through that door and get the first whiff of fresh french fries, it feels like the first time. Had my dog today with kraut and brown mustard. Fries with cheese. It was fabulous as always. Had a great visit with great conversation with fellow patrons
I've loved "O" fries since I was a teenager. Fried in peanut oil, large portions, perfect for sharing. Must get cheese sauce and/or beef gravy! Hot dogs are good, too. Pizza is decent for a fair price. Overall, the O is affordable, and the food is consistently good.
People were friendly. Food was good and hot, but $2.98 for extra cheese? The grocery store sells bags of cheese 2 for $4. I could have added my own extra cheese for that. Had I been told the price up front, I would have. Bill was already close to $30.00, cheese put me up over 30.
