One word: Phenomenal! When a place is voted number 1 breakfast in Phoenix by AZCentral, and have amazing reviews on Yelp, you have to check it out. When you first get to the Original Breakfast House usually there is always a wait which is good because you know the restaurant is popping out some amazing dishes. The staff is super friendly and treat you like family. The one thing I noticed is that the Owner John who is one of the nicest people you will meet will greet, walk around talk to the customers, and he will help the waitresses with serving food, and bus tables. You do not see that very often from owners of restaurants that put that much care into a restaurant. When I see that you know the food will be amazing because they put the "Love into it". Also, this restaurant does not take credit cards which could be discouraging, but on the Original Breakfast House website they give an explanation on why they do not so they can pay the staff a better wage. Also they have ATM's inside the restaurant with no fees. The waitress was super attentive, helpful, sweet, and treated you like family.
This amazing experience happened all before the food even came out! Now, being a bodybuilder foodie I had to try everything that I could on the menu and believe me when I say this you can pick anything off the menu and you cannot go wrong. Everything was delicious. Here is what we tried and what I recommend:
Shrimp and Grits - Topped with a poached egg and served with a biscuit. The shrimp and grits was out of bounds good. You get the freshness of the shrimp with the hint of the peppers and onions, then you get hit with the hot sauce that they put on the dish which compliments well with the cheddar creamy grits and the warm pouched egg yolk. The hot sauce was just the right amount of kick. This is a very savory entree.
Lemon Curd and Blueberry Pancakes - When you get anything lemon sometimes you do not get enough lemon flavor with dishes, that is not the case here. The pancakes were light, airy, and fluffy. The lemon curd syrup has a big lemon flavor (does not overpower the pancake) which soaks into the pancake nicely, and then you get hit with the blueberry sweetness on the back end. No need for syrup here!
Asparagus, Bacon, Goat Cheese Scramble - First off the hash browns that come with this entree is hearty. The hash browns are cooked to perfection where you get the nice crunchy crust on the top. The omelet itself was amazing. With every bite you are getting the saltiness of the bacon (Meat Candy) and the taste of asparagus. What makes the omelet though is the goat cheese. You have chunks of goat cheese in the omelet which adds the creaminess taste and texture to every bite.
Green Pork Chili Benedict - I was very surprised with this dish. The texture and flavor was insane crazy! It is two tamale cakes topped with pork green chili, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, served on a corn husk. There is so many layers of flavor with this it was like a party in your mouth. First you get the taste of the fat warm egg yolk that is mixed with the hollandaise sauce, the tender, juicy pork, then you get a little kick from the green chili, and the finish of the tamale cakes.
Garden Hash and Eggs - If you are a vegetarian this is the entree for you. You have "Hash Potatoes" with green and red peppers, zucchini, asparagus, spinach, mushrooms, onions, cheddar cheese, topped with two eggs and toast. This meal is very hearty and you will not leave hungry after eating this entree. The potatoes are cooked to perfection where you get the crunchy outside and the light fluffy potato in the middle. What makes this entree is the runny egg and cheddar cheese which mixes and complements well with all the cooked/sauteed veggies.
Brioche Cinnamon Roll - Nothing really much to say beside this was "Damn Good!". These are freshly made everyday with brioche bread and covered with frosting. Every inch of this cinnamon roll is covered with frosting. Oh and by the way, they heat up the roll before they serve it to you.
Pop Tart - Nothing beats a homemade made fresh everyday Pop Tart! this pop tart had all natural fruit filling. Everything you would want a Pop Tart to be. No need to go to the store and get a box just get one at Original Breakfast House.
Banana Pecan French Toast - One of the best french toasts I have ever had! You get two massive sourdough slices that are fried to perfection. They call this San Francisco style because of the Sourdough bread they use. This french toast is a mouth feel explosion.
Favorite Dish Chicken Fried Chicken - Holy Crap this is the best entree they have! You get the tender, juiciness of the white meat with the crunch of the fried to perfection outside, then they cover the fried chicken with this nice thick country gravy. The Entree to get when you come in!

Best breakfast place in the valley! I've been going for years! My grandson (7) will agree! We go whenever we get the chance! Wish they'd open one on the west side! But totally worth the trip! Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere! Only bad thing...you will have to wait on the weekends. But again, it's worth the wait!
Great food possibly the best pancakes I have ever eaten in my life and the service was by far one of the best run facilities I have ever seen.
i.e. one of the table bussers dropped a tray full of dishes while bussing a table and 4 co workers "attacked" that situation and helped, cleaned it up took chairs to the back cleaned then brought them back and swept up the floor in while setting another complete setting for four in under 3 minutes. Impressively run operation.
Exceptional level of service!! Food arrived hot & amazingly delicious...I’ll never forget the San Francisco style French toast with the chicken & gravy definitely a must have breakfast !!! Pancakes with a hint of lemon a unique and tasty breakfast pancake... wish there was a location in Northern Cali....
We had a 20 minute wait, so we sat outside on the comfy benches and, let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The menu gave you a lot to choose from; an array of basic to healthy, small to large. Their omelets looked delicious, their combos really good. I had pork chops and eggs, Shannon had a delicious chicken sandwich..too much for her to eat.
The staff keeps your spirits up with their friendly smiles and great service...all so nice and accommodating. Lovely experience. Thank YOU.
My nephew who is a Chef at his restaurant, The Sundial Garden Cafe in Carefree highly recommended this place. So decided to try. Staff very friendly. Mike my waiter superb! I had Linguistic and eggs. But deep fried French toast. Very pleased. I will go back!!! Thanks Chef Shawn Jaynes for the recommendation. P.S. try the brioche cinnamon roll!!!
Awesome place for a great meal at amazing prices. The staff here is always wonderful and very attentive. Food tastes amazing and I love that most items are all made in house from scratch! Not to mention that they use locally sourced produce and meats. Highly recommended.
Ordered custom and this place delivered. Had breakfast with 3 friends of mine here. Not from Phoenix but when I visit I will be coming back
We were visiting from Ohio and wanted a local breakfast spot. This fit the bill. The atmosphere was great, food is fast and fresh, and the service was very friendly. We loved Juan's tacos and the tripleberry French toast. We will definitely be back on future trips.
Awesome food! Loved all the surf boards, friendly staff, don’t let the lines of people stop you from hanging out, they know their stuff........we were told 40 minute wait, it was maybe 20. That’s the way it should be done. Great specials but the “San Francisco” style waffles are a must!
Best breakfast, brunch and lunch place in Phoenix. Locally owned. Love it.
First time here! Visiting from Pittsburgh PA and I found in yelp!! Would recommend to everyone!!
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great service! Fast service too!!!

Locally sourced ingredients. Creative and clever recipes. Friendly smiling folks. Large portions at modest prices. What's not to like? Best place for breakfast in Arizona. Period. Support independently owned, community focused businesses. Cash only.
This was our first time going to Original Breakfast House, and I have to say, that we were not disappointed! We were seated right away and everyone was very friendly. I ordered the French toast and it is the best French toast I've ever had...my boyfriend had the country fried steak and he loved it as well. We well definitely be going again!
Love, Love, Loved it! Sat my party of 8 in less than 20 minutes with no reservations. Food was amazing and very unique. The owner walks around and greets customers. Staff is always checking in to ensure satisfaction. Not just your waiter. This is a cashless establishment so the owner can afford to pay the staff well and it shows the staff is happy! There are no fee atms on site. Go and enjoy a good meal!
Our party of 4 had the Popeye omelet, Hog heaven, special: chimichurri steak and eggs, and the carnitas street tacos. Everything was outstanding. Fresh, perfectly prepared, generous portions, just so good. Our server was delightful and I'm sorry I didn't catch her name but we really enjoyed our first visit to OBH! We will definitely be return customers. It's is cash only, but they have convenient no fee ATMs available inside.
I saw the owner on the news Sunday morning discussing his love of Hawaii and his fund raising for the people of Maui. We decided to stop in after church to help out. The place has a fun vibe, clearly the Aloha philosophy. The owner was gracious, our server Danielle was delightful. The service was fast, the food was good and we will definitely be back.
Been dining here for years. The food is consistently top quality and the specials are often new. I think this is the third review I’ve left. John and his crew are excellent. I noticed one reviewer complaining about an ATM fee. There never have been nor are there now ATM fees. See photo for proof. They have some of the best biscuits and gravy anywhere and serve a real ham steak.
This place is a cash only restaurant. The first restaurant that I noticed that doesn’t accept digital payments in the US. They have an ATM inside the restaurant for your convenience though.
I tried their French toast with berries. Looks like they deep fried the breads. I liked the taste but couldn’t finish the whole meal. It was a different experience!
First time here! I ordered the triple berry French toast. It was an amazing dessert lol. Not a place to go in a diet LOL. It was all great. The inside was a little warm and stuffy due to the heat right now. You will have about an hour wait on weekends and busy time. Cash only too FYI. We will be back.
Yesterday was the first time I’ve been able to go here because it’s very busy on the weekends but now I know why! It was out of this world. The Bananas Foster French Toast and the chicken fried chicken were the BEST I’ve ever had! So delicious! I also tried the Cinnamon Roll pancakes and we ordered the Cali Burrito. I will definitely be here again and this is by far the best breakfast option in the area! The waitress was amazing and super helpful as well! Don’t miss out on this place! :)
This place did not disappoint me at all everything was perfect from the moment we showed up to check in the owner was great and very organized, The original breakfast definitely lives up to all the hype!!
First time here. Super friendly attentive staff. Checked on us regularly. The menu options are great and the food was sooo delicious. I had the chilaquiles with chicken tinga. It was perfect with just a bit of spicy heat. My bf had the fried steak and eggs. It was good but not what he would describe as his favorite. Then we split a banana creme brulee oatmeal that was just the right amount of sweet. Edit addition.... came for our second time today 7/23/23 and again loved it. The wait was long but they had live entertainment to enjoy while we waited. I had the breakfast enchiladas mmmm. Our waitress Danielle was fantastic and efficient. Super on top of it and checked in often. Oh and perfect diner coffee with plenty of refills.
The staff has always been amazing. Happy, helpful and on point. The food is awesome and once you get the chance to sit down, everything gets to you quickly. Katjia was the name of our waitress this last time. Handled 10 people so so well! Like a real pro! And the food was amazing as always. This is the tenth time at least we've been and the second time I had to take the time to leave an awesome review.
