Scrumptious Chinese heartwarming food. We tried the whole fish in soy/ fried rice which was delicious/ hargao/ clear tofu vegetable soup delicately flavoured with celery/ dry pot pork. A huge thumbs up for fresh ingredients and friendly service.
The absolute best Chinese food I've found in the area! Every single dish we got was incredible. Loved the fresh shrimp Har gau, sesame balls, spring rolls, cold wood ear mushrooms (spice is a bit mouth numbing- in a good way!), awesome doufu Gan with garlic chives, house mei fun, and the chili oil on the wontons was incredible. My friend said his sweet and sour chicken was the best he'd ever had. We will be ordering chili oil with everything from now on, it's so flavorful. Nothing was greasy at all, everything was so fresh. Couldn't recommend higher.
This is my FAVORITE Philadelphia Asian restaurant - outside of the more higher-end, more expensive restaurants like Buddakan and Sampan - and in my Top 7 of favorite Philly restaurants altogether. I've been coming here for at least 5-6 years and they never miss! It is a hidden gem in the city. The food is spectacular, which is really surprising given how many items they have on it. Usually with restaurants, the more items you offer, the more the quality of food goes down. My personal favorite is the dry pot style fish or tofu with extra lotus root, the stir fried string beans, and a fruit tea. Also recommended items would be the black bean style chicken or the sweet and sour chicken.
I bring my out-of-towner guests here and it immediately becomes their go-to restaurant. Every time they're in town, they demand to go to this restaurant.
To be fair, here are the following downsides:
1) When it's cold outside, it's cold inside. The heating is that great. However, the seating area and restroom is very neat, clean, and well decorated.
2) The food runs very oily and sometimes a little salty. However, since i know this, I request that they make my food less oily and/or salty and they accommodate to perfection.
3) I personally didn't like the vegetable dumplings but my friend did so what can you say? I also don't love their fried cheese wonton (crab rangoon used to be a favorite dish of mine when I ate dairy and meat) but I think it's just a style preference. It's not bad at all, just not my favorite version.
However, even with all of those things, the food is so good and they are very accommodating to tailoring to your specific dietary request, this place is a 10 out of 10.
So delicious! We were starving and ordered way too much but it was all so good! My son really loved the dry pepper chicken!
This Chinese restaurant is in the city avenue right behind Target. The ambience was really nice with soft music playing in the background and well decorated interiors. The food was nice but was spicy which I liked but might not go well with everyone. The dumplings were probably the best I have had in the US which were in Veg, Chicken and Shrimp.
1 Star take out experience
5 Stars for food
We ordered through doordash on Lunar Year day and boy that was a mistake. Restaurant underestimated the amount of business they were getting so was overwhelmed. We placed an order at 5pm for 7pm delivery didn’t get our food till 9pm. Called restaurant to see if we should just cancel our order but they insisted that we wait. felt so bad for our doordash Guy for waiting since 7 that we tipped him extra when he arrived.
Thank God food didn’t disappoint! It’s our first time ordering from them :) I’m too pregnant to cook lunar year dinner for the family so we opted for takeout.
Dishes we ordered :
Singapore Rice Noodle 星洲炒米粉 rice noodles were perfectly cooked with a slight bite to it. It wasn’t oily nor too dry. Slight curry flavor with a bit of heat yet not overpowering
Double Cook Style 回锅系列 (Entree 主菜)
• ordered with Pork and was perfect. You can taste the slight char and just love how they sliced it thinly. Good balance of pork fat and meat as well
We ordered Beef & Tripe with Chili Oil 夫妻肺片 (Starters ) but they packed wrong dish for us, we got pig ears instead . It was thinly sliced and my mom enjoyed it.
Hot Sauce Style 水煮系列 (Entree 主菜)
• ordered with Fish Fillets and the fish pieces were pretty big which we loved. Don’t have to dig around for the fish at all! There’s a good amount of heat with this dish as it should be :) perfect with rice
Hong Kong Style 避风塘系列 (Entree 主菜)
• we ordered with Chicken Wings and highly recommend it if you like garlic :) the fried garlic bits was so perfect with the wings that I Sprinkle it over my rice as well. Just the right amount of spice so you still get to enjoy the marinated wings flavor
Red Bean Bun (3) 红豆包 got this for my 3 yo and he devoured 2 so quickly we had to hide the 3rd one to avoid a hyper toddler before bedtime😂
Brown Sugar Pearl with Milk 黑糖珍珠撞奶 - requested no ice cause I was avoiding ice cold drinks but they missed that note. Tasted ok…nothing special but it took care of my prego cravings!
DJ Kitchen has some of the best food I've ever eaten. I constantly crave their cold sesame noodles and their pork soup dumplings. Their menu is huge, but if you go with a big party, be prepared to pass around a single iPad for everyone to order. This can really slow things down. However, the staff is kind and courteous and the restaurant is clean, if half finished. I will definitely eat here again!
This is a very well maintained chinese restaurant, you can tell the food is made to order & is not pre made after taking a bite. The singapore noodles were delicious, and the restaurant has a really nice ambiance.
I think the empty plates tell the story of how good the food really was, they have decent amount of vegetarian options which is a huge plus.
We took a chance and boy, we're We pleases. I can't believe I forgot to take pictures! The food was delicious. We got wontons in spicy oil, sesame shrimp, Singapore noodles and wonton soup. I liked that cans of Coke were an option for drinks. Your order on the tablet and it's very convenient. Highly recommend!
The food is DELICIOUS. The dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and scallion pancakes were the best I've ever had.
High quality authentic Chinese dishes. I’ve tried a lot if different menu items and always a 10/10. Pictured here is Wontons in Chili Oil, Chongqing Dry Pepper Chicken and Dan Dan Noodles. If you like your food on the spicier side all three of these option are great. Could be spicier IMO but I am a complete spice freak so I’m sure this would satisfy a normal human :)
Good portion size and has good flavor. The shrimp was a little too fishy however for me to enjoy the shrimp dumplings but I did like the szechwan chicken.
Love the food. But last night , service was reversed. Recieved entrees before drinks and appetizers. Drinks came way late and actually canceled one when it didnt arrive with the other. As we were the last customers, didn't pay close clos attention to the reciept and didn't realize i was still charged for the drink. Tske care with the bubble teas. My companion had difficulty puncturing the seal with the straw and spilled part of it.
No offer was made to provide another.
I can’t comment on the restaurant in person, I’ve only DoorDashed the food (over 10 times) I’m obsessed with the flavors and spice here. Best Menu in the area for the ingredients i always look for
For the best Chinese and Asian fusion food on City Ave., in the Bala Cynwyd, Manayunk, and East Falls area, DJ Kitchen delivers!
My two favorite dishes are the Stir Fried Tofu and the General Tso's chicken (pictured in one bowl, here). The tofu has a wonderful texture and flavor, the sauteed veggies are always crisp and fresh, and the sauce is savory and light. The General Tso's chicken stands out for it's consistently high-quality, perfectly cooked white meat chicken (not often used in this dish at other restaurants), and one of the tangiest, most flavorful spicy-sweet glaze sauces I've had. We also love the "soup dumplings" -- savory, tender, seasoned meat sealed inside a dumpling with SOUP broth. Gotta try 'em at least once! Sometimes take-out orders run a bit behind the expected "ready" time when you order, but, the folks who work here, work hard, are friendly, and deliver a consistently excellent product. We are big fans, and DJ Kitchen is our go-to place for Chinese food take-out in Bala Cynwyd, East Falls, Manayunk area, along City Ave.
Highly recommend.
