EDIT: Someone read this and changes were made and it’s to support a small chain in Philly that will listen and apply customer feedback. Literally my favorite bagel spot in Philly! This pains me to write because this used to be my favorite bagel spot. I used to go to their multiple locations until I finally landed here as it looks like they make their bagels here. There seems to be an obvious issue with employee turnover. I can only imagine that they 1) are not properly paying their employees causing them to leave 2) don’t have a standard for training their employees because with this most recent turn over the construction of the sandwiches has been horrible. The last 4 times that I’ve come here I’ve ordered the same sandwich a lox special. I’ve either gotten a burnt bagel, little to no cream cheese, minimal lox, the wrong bagel, and to top it off I’m paying anywhere between $12 to $14 for the bagel. I can understand raising prices as food prices change but there is no reason I should be paying a higher price and receiving less on the bagel. Or I can understand someone’s first week, hence why I came back and gave it another go, but there’s no improvement. It’s unfortunate cause I really loved coming to this place, and this was my regular breakfast spot two to three times a week. Hopefully someone is actually reading these and can implement some changes.

I have been a loyal customer of this place for years, and now I’m moving away so I have to get 2 things off my chest. 1. This is the best bagel in philly hands down. No other bagel comes close. When I lived next door I woke up early enough a couple of times to catch them right out of the oven… heaven on earth 2. I’m not making any direct accusations. But whenever I go in and the older blonde lady is at the register, they are always “out of chai”, or ice. (I am addicted to their iced chai latte) but whenever the guy (Jonathan?) or literally ANY other worker is there, they make it for me. I’m not exaggerating, every. Single. Time. She’s there, no chai. She’s not there, I get chai. I’d bet this has happened without fail every visit for the past 5 years. 5 years of this can’t be a coincidence can it?? I don’t think so

Overall this bagel shop was extremely welcoming and helpful. They helped us choose from which speciality bagel they had and which is most popular which was the Lox bagel. I could not be more happy with my selection.

The breakfast sandwiches here are fantastic - absolutely recommend the bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. They have a wide assortment of bagels and topping options, and you can’t go wrong no matter what you order! Definitely recommend!

Was just looking for a quick bite for breakfast before leaving the city, and this place was perfect. Staff was friendly, and my everything bagel with scallion cream cheese was the best I’ve ever had. Beats New York by a long shot

My go-to bagel spot for 20 years (on and off).I'll never forget the first time having one of their bagels. It was love at first bite. It was their french toast bagel with a sweet cream cheese (can't remember exactly). My absolute favorite is their everything bagel. I was so excited when they opened up on Passyunk, closer to my neighborhood. I only went once. Only because I started working in Society Hill. Almost 3 years now and it took my coworker to remind me of how close the original SSB is to my place of employment. Been there several times in the last few weeks. I know.. I know. How could I be a TRUE SS bagel lover and not realize?? Consistently delicious. The staff- super sweet and gracious- even when handling the most difficult of customers. Not me, but I did witness a customer just about have a hissy fit, in an easy to fix situation. The customer was out of line but the staff killed the customer with kindness and handled it graciously. Much better than I would've.

South Street Philly Bagels favorite place to get bagels in Philly! Well, all of the Philly Bagel locations are reliably delicious, so never fear if you're in a different part of the city when hunger strikes. But we're particularly fond of stopping by this location every Saturday morning. Always friendly, always fast, always delicious.

So, the food here is GREAT. Amazing bagels and the staff is great as well. However, I think the management is lacking. My total was $9.99 - I only had 10 dollar bills. I gave a $10 and asked to break the other 10 I had so I could leave the team a tip - she refused. She didn't even bother looking into the tip jar that had plenty of change to break the $10 I had. As someone who has worked in the service industry, this is unacceptable. A lot of these employees count on tips to make ends meet. Please do better. Your team deserves tips.
