Incredible food, intimate atmosphere, friendly staff made a night out to celebrate my husband's birthday a true experience, not just a night out for dinner.

We had a perfect evening at Ambra. We had the opportunity to sit at the kitchen counter to watch the food prep. Our mouths were watering as soon as we walked in! The food was exceptional. Each course had just a terrific balance of flavors. And the wine paring was ideal. Marina and Chris were the perfect hosts and the service from everyone was just great. I promise that you will leave with a highly satisfied palate and a head full of amazing memories.

The most romantic dinner I've had in years was at Ambra ✨🔥 We had an intimate Italian tasting that was divine and lovely. Seriously, I'm speechless. A perfect restaurant. ❤️

We decided to have a small wedding dinner at Ambra with immediate family in their private dining room. Not only was the food amazing, but we left FULL after 7 courses and a couple extra amuses. Our families loved everything, all food was well thought-out and in-season, and communication between us and the restaurant prior was perfect. They accommodated a variety of dietary restrictions, had mock tails for those not drinking, and even made us a small wedding cake. We had never been to Ambra before this dinner but will definitely be back for a chef’s table and/or to their sister restaurant

An amazing experience. My sister booked the private room with the wine pairing for our party. The staff was amazing. Chefs Chris and Ryan do an amazing job and our bartender, Aden, was also fantastic. Usually these fancy tasting menus can be pretentious and not that good but the food was delicious and the staff was warm, welcoming, passionate about what they do and everything but pretentious. A wonderful evening, would love to go back.

My husband found Ambra online and we decided to go for our anniversary dinner. Best dinner experience of our entire life! The food, atmosphere, and staff were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Shannon led us through a wine pairing with all of our food. She really knew her stuff about wine. The chef Chris was knowledgeable about the food he made and you could tell he took the time to put everything on the plate. It was a community table. We were very lucky to sit with 3 other couples who were awesome. Conversation flowed and we had an amazing time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND AMBRA!

Ambra remains a shiny beacon of great, careful, & thoughtful food in this city. I would say even more so now than when we visited pre-pandemic. Each dish comes with loads of backstory if you want it, and an insane level of technical know-how. The wine pairings are fantastic, and we were lucky to have an extra glass or two of some fairly unique bottles. Sitting in the kitchen watching food preparation for both Southwark and Ambra was exhilarating and certainly worth doing for date nights, or just spending quality time with a friend. Just don’t take any photos of the actual kitchen (it’s a rule!). The dishes were well rounded and fulfilling - however I can’t help but feel the plating and / or combinations could be even more inspired. They’re clearly striving to do some of the best culinary work in this city, and are succeeding, but some dishes could use a tad more oomph. The pasta could have used a bit more acid (more lemon perhaps), and the sauce for the brined fish (I don’t recall if it was mackerel) was a tad too light. The radicchio was less bitter than usual but still a chore to eat. We could have used regular bread for the fish course to mop up the oil / butter - but what I really wanted was for all of it to be grassier. The sauce had very little taste considering it’s vibrancy. We recently had a dessert dish at Story in London that was almond and dill prepared in various ways. The dill oil looked similar, but was miles more flavorful. I wonder if the oil needs to be worked on - because the fish was outstanding. It might be that the kitchen has mixed focused on Ambra since they’re having to do Southwark plating as well…but I expected a few more surprises. Breaking the structure of a tasting menu since we were literally in the kitchen would’ve been nice. A surprise taste of some extra thing that they whipped up, even if that thing was for Southwark. I’ll tell you one thing, we left quite confident we need to come back and try Southwark after seeing the chefs make those lower priced dishes. Very exact and professional work from this kitchen. A solid choice for a very consistently good dining experience…though not quite as ground breaking as I know they have the skill and passion to be. I just noticed they totally listened to (or at least intuited) the concerns from my previous review. Ambra now leaves you with a bag of something to take home. For us it was granola, the most delightful house-smoked almonds, two scones, and lemon curd. A VERY lovely reminder of the wonderful night we shared in the kitchen. Thank you for being in Philly and striving for excellence. —- Pre-pandemic review (5 stars): Among the best Philadelphia restaurants - though the tasting could benefit from greater pacing and an end-of-meal treat (WILL BYOB did Madeleine's, Eleven Madison Park does granola, Vespertine does a custom perfume, etc.). Other than these two comments, Ambra is a spectacular experience worth revisiting at least twice. Run to Ambra.

Tasting is delicious and wine pairing is lovely. Highly recommend. Tasting does take 2.5 hours so be prepared for a longer but delicious meal.

The space is small and dark (think ambiance, not creepy) the food is interesting, tasty and fresh. Also super rich. This is not a straight forward menu or wine pairing. Nothing here is typical, great special occasion spot!!!

Special. Rarely at the high end price point do you get value. This meal was amazing. Sitting at the chef/kitchen table allows one to appreciate that you are really getting food executed at the highest level. Best meal I’ve had in a very long time.

Cozy space with wonderful service. Inventive, beautiful, absolutely delicious Italian cuisine. Tasting menu only, but they are happy to accommodate most dietary restrictions. Best wine pairings in Philly. Perfect place for your special occasion meal. Go quickly before it becomes too popular to get a table!

Inventive and creative modern Italian cuisine. Tasting menu only. Instead of the offered wine pairing (which would have been too much wine for us) the sommelier suggested two wines to accompany our meal and that was perfect for us. I’ve seen other reviews talking about the small portion size. True, but believe me, after six courses of small plates we were extremely full. I could barely finish. The price for two, with wine (2 glasses each) was about $280. Expensive, but, in my opinion, worth it for a special occasion. Service was impeccable. Kudos.

Nice location in an artsy neighborhood. The menu was a six course, s m a l l plate with wine parings. Small plates with the emphasis on small. It was interesting to try new wines that may not have been on our radar. The food was really beautifully presented and then a brief description of why the small pour was picked for that particular food item. I would have stolen my friends wonderful tasting beef, about the size of a square ice cube, but she would have objected and it wasn't that kind of place. The experience lasts about two hours. You won't get drunk from the wine as they use small pours. You may, however, leave hungry. The restaurant was cool to try. It was very very expensive. The two of us, sticking to the pre fixe menu, with nothing extra came to around $475.00, including tip. Different-Yes. Interesting- Somewhat. Small plates-Think one small item. Expensive-$$$$$ -Yes. Value vs. Experience- Unfortunately No.

Absolutely amazing. We were one of only two tables seated for the 8:30 on a Saturday night and it's a travesty. This place was amazing. The food was just so damn good. I literally wanted to start the whole menu over again just to try it all again after we finished. We're already going back in a few weeks.

How this restaurant is not on Phillys top 50 restaurants is beyond me. All of the 9 courses we had were amazing and plated perfectly. In addition to the 9 courses we also order the wine parking which introduced us to wines we've never had before. I've dined at Vernick and Laurel in Philly and Madison Park in New York and the food at Ambra is right up there with all of those restaurants. Will recommend this restaurant to all my friends and will definitely be back in the future.

We had the best time. The food was amazing but there are no words to describe how fantastic the staff was at Ambra. Without them the experience would not of been the same. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who can appreciate great food, wine and service. The level of detail there is was truly amazing from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. The is a BUCKET LIST must! Way beyond my expectations.
