What was once Philly's best kept secret should not be anymore. It is absolutely a top restaurant in the city and one that I hope continues its tradition of great food and great atmosphere.

I don't know what kind of sauce that was on the Talapia but it was doing a dance in my mouth with every bite. Definitely will return for a family dinner.
Always on point!!!!!! Service is good and quick and the ginger strawberry drink yummy!
Awesome restaurant with very tasty reasonably priced Senegalese food. It's small and gets packed fast. It's also cash only. However, the deliciousness more than makes up for the few anomalies! Ample parking too.
The grilled red snapper (fish) was delicious! Well seasoned. Will definitely return.
Great food best place to be here in Philadelphia my favorite platter is dibbi chicken vermercel
Always great food and great service. Kilimanjaro is family! ❤️

Best African food in the city I'm a loyal customer I'm something like addicted
Food is authentic and great. The staff is wonderful. A small restaurant with a large heart . I have a good experience every time I go
One of my favorite restaurants to go to when I am in the city. The food is great and service is superb.
Great food, good music & pleasant atmosphere, I highly recommend
The food was awesome! I would recommend calling ahead to avoid the 30min wait.
5 star restaurant! Great food. We ordered the lamb shank and red snapper. We also had Ginger Yaya!
Red snapper, sauteed veggies and fried plaintain are amazing! Go get you some! Thank me later!
Pictured was my first visit with the veggies and the chicken.
Delicious African food!! Their curry is good, as well as their jollaf rice 😋
The JOLLOF RICE was a bit oily. The fish was great.
Overall on the expensive side.
We had a great experience here. The fish and the beef empanadas are excellent. The staff is super friendly. We were greeted and wait on by a young girl and she is very professional. We recommend the lamb chops and the fish. All delicious.
I ordered takeout from Kilimandjaro and loved the delicious food! It's been years since I ate from this restaurant, so I'm thrilled was able to try it again once back in town. There are so many options on their lunch menu, but I got the Chicken Yassa and Lamb Mafee. If you order here, expect hearty, large portions that you can easily share with others or store for a later day!
Pleasant atmosphere, pleasant customer service and updates on the future relocation back to Chestnut street (close to home). The best part.. I never ate a fish down to bone. I enjoyed my Grilled Red Snapper and Rice.
Kilimandjaro is the spot. Food was delicious and rich with flavor. We went there on two separate occasions, once for the dine-in experience and the other time was a take-out. On both occasions we were left extremely satisfied. It is cash-only so come in prepared. It is located inside of a plaza so parking is available in front the restaurant. The owner is friendly and approachable. The staff speaks French as well if needed. I highly recommend this spot if you're in the West Philly/University City area. You cannot leave disappointed it's not time and they ran out of your favorite dessert. Bon appétit!!!
I've been going to Kilimandjaro for years. The last time was a few weeks ago. I like the atmosphere, and mainly it's because the staff leaves you alone to eat in peace. Unless you need something, they do not stop by your table every two minutes to ask if you need anything else. With that said, it's a wonderful place to chill out, and eat amazing food. It's the ideal place to gather socially with friends and family.
The food is outstanding! I always order the same thing, but I have tried several other dishes. None of them disappoint. I order white rice with my food. It sounds basic, right? The thing is, whoever is cooking that rice makes it perfectly! They serve some of the best rice I've ever eaten.
The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars, and not 5, is because they changed the chicken brochette meat entirely to chicken thighs. It wasn't that way back in the day. I'm not a big fan of chicken thighs. That's my preference.
In all, I highly recommend this place, first and foremost, for the delicious cuisine, and, secondly, for the laid-back atmosphere.
This African Restaurant did not disappoint! My friends rant and raved about this place and so I came, I saw, and devoured the savory Yassa Chicken which was so delicious, with the red/jollof rice to complement! The spicy, hearty dish is made of tender boneless chicken with tasty onions and peppers. I will be back to try the tilapia fish which I tasted from my friend's plate and will be my next dish. The 2 ladies at the restaurant were so pleasant and welcoming and the atmosphere was cozy. If I could give a recommendation, is to have some ginger juice with the option to add sugar. I would have probably purchased 2 drinks! I plan to come back!! 😊
For the better part of the experience the food is at least good, but the furniture is worn like used upscale furniture. Most of the better diverse dishes are served for lunch I don't like that. Its BYOB which probably explains why they only have can soda and a few ginger base drinks. They didnt hve enough soap or tissue n the bathroom I really had a problem with that because one of the hosts used it before me so she knew what I knew and didn't replenish it. I didn't find the WOW factor here but will try take out for future visit
Had a good experience here. It was a cozy small spot with very flavorful food. Only thing I didnt like was the frozen veggies. I mentioned it at the end of my meal and found out if I'd ordered the string beans they were fresh. Hubby had the poisson a la braise (red snapper and fried red rice), I had michiou (grilled marinated lamb) and we got a side of plantain. To drink we had the ginger yaye (ginger with strawberry) for him, and ginger baye (ginger with mango) for me. Enough ginger to tingle a little and not too sweet. The appetizer we tried the was the fataya (beef patties) that came with a side of real pepper that might hurt your feelings ouf you're not careful. I really liked the onions from both meals but preferred the overall flavor of the fish. I used the diced pickley flavored crunchy onions from on top of the fish to help out my sad veggies. I got one good carrot on my lamb. If I'd gotten a side of those I would have been straight. All in all a good experience and I shall return. Next time maybe I'll try one of the chicken dishes.
Food (Broiled whole Talapia fish) is good, but the platter should come with a vegetable. Also, Talapia is the cheapest fish out there, so the platter (only the fish and rice) shouldn't cost $18+!
The food here is amazing... you are treated like family - we love the atmosphere it is like showing up at your parents house for dinner.... the service is superb!
I managed to convince my boyfriend to try out the west African food.We looked up on the internet and came across this place.I was not sure he would like it.( He is Jewish). Well, he cleared his plate, and so did I,lol. Amazing food. Amazing clean place. We both loved it.I give it 5 stars.
Awesome place. Authentic Senegalese and Gambian cuisine! I ordered the Benachin and a Bissap juice, and the taste was as just as I remembered from my childhood! Price was reasonable, the place was neat, and the staff was very friendly!
First time having West African (Sengalese) food and I am IN LOVE!!! We had the Yassa Shrimp and Yassa Philly Chicken, fried rice and plaintains. Babyyyyyy, the juice from the yassa was so good we poured what spilled in the bag onto our rice. Not wasting a thing!!! You have not lived until you've had West African food. Go to Kilimandjaro's, you will not be disappointed at all!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Amazing food and very friendly owners! They treat you like family
