I have been wanting to try this place for some time. It is attached to the side of a Mexican grocery store, and we discovered it when we were looking for for Cotija cheese for a recipe we were making a year or so ago. It was sadly closed for the month since the cook went back to Mexico for several weeks to visit family. We finally made it back, once again needing Cotija cheese and having empty stomachs, and we really enjoyed what we tried.

We started with a tamale and it was huge and was filled with large chunks of pork, not ground up mystery meat, and a proper amount of masa. It came wrapped in a large banana leaf. We also shared a beef taco and it was just simply presented only being topped with cilantro and onions-so fresh tasting and authentic with a squeeze of lime over the top.

We then ordered two entrees she ordered the Camarones de Acapulquenos, and I had the Flautas de Pollo. You can only say one thing "this is real Mexican food". Eating here is like eating in your friends childhood home in central Mexico, and enjoying family recipes handed down for generations! The food is just done right, and is not Tex-Mex or anywhere near it. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on Tex-Mex, but it is nice to have a real slice of Mexico here in Pensacola. If you are looking for chips and salsa, with cheese dip, this is not going to be your place.

Give it a try, I think you will be glad that you did. It is clean and well kept up, and go next door and look around at all the great food that they carry.

What a gem! This very unassuming place is the real deal: authentic Mexican food at a very reasonable price. The dining area is small, which is a good thing. It is clean and very colorful --- just like you would find in Mexico. The food is fresh and delicious. I was hungry (as usual) and ordered 4 tacos: pollo, carne asada, carnitas and al pastor. Each one was bursting with flavor. The two sauces on the table really added depth to the over all flavor of the tacos, with masking them with extreme heat. The server was extremely pleasant as she efficiently handled the entire dining area by herself. This place is far from fancy, but it as as authentic as it gets. They also have a grocery store adjacent to the dining area, which is a great way to spend time before your meal arrives. They also have take out as an option.

Deliciously AUTHENTIC!. We have been enjoying Taco Mex for over a year and why I forgot to write a review I do not know. If you are looking for AUTHENTIC food this is your place. You can order off the menu but they also have daily and weekend specials.
They have THE BEST MENUDO on the planet, no joke! My husband, who would try mine at other places we have ordered it over the years, will only order menudo here! There are too many wonderful items to mention ( by now we have tried sooo many of them) but you can throw a dart at the menu and wherever it lands you will be pleased. The very best thing about your dining experienced will be RITA, the only server. She is warm and friendly and will get whatever you order made exactly as you want it and always has a smile on her face. Be sure and visit the ajoining grocery store. The owners speak perfect English so do not be intimidated and they will help you with all the new items you will experience and how to prepare them also.

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and had a good meal. The food here is way better then the food served in the restaurant next door. I ordered the Tex-mex which was very good. Four tortillas that are fried then topped with seasoned beef, fresh avocados and a few other veggies. Really nice taste. The wife ordered the Vera Cruz plate and said it was ok, fish was a little overcooked but the shrimp were well seasoned and not over cooked. Rice and beans on the side which is common and nothing to brag about. The decor is really interesting and the staff came by several times to checks on us. Good size menu so we’ll return to try something new. After a meal you can hit the market and pick up some ingredients to make something at home. Nice setup.

Firts and foremost, if you think Chipotle, Moe's, Taco Bell, etc are real Mexican food this is not the place for you, in the other hand if you're looking for something close to being Mex food this is a place where you could find a variety of dishes in a large menu to experience a closer taste of South of the border and no freaking tx mex, keep in mind food in Mex varies by region and the length from cardinal points and state to state increase the recipe difference, this restaurant represent where the owners and, or culinary region came from, without know them I could venture to say central Mex, anyway we for once found a place with good classic food where you can seat indoors (climate controled) to eat, enjoy the food and the memory, no doubt there's many food trucks around town where you can also get good food, but not a decent place to seat down, the carne asada tacos are not too bad, I whish they make them like at San Jose in Mobile, but here at tacoMex the dinning area and restrooms hygiene are far better and combined with the fiesta decor inviting to come back. Stay tuned for more on this place, our breakfast chorizo con huevos and huevos a la mexicana were outstanding. 2nd visit late lunch I asked for the daily special dish, I got pork meat with nopales cooked in salsa roja with rice and beans, it wasn't hot, but very well seasoned, I wished they had an all you can eat on that.

I love to come here with my family for some authentic tacos. The food is always good, the service is great and the ambience is also wonderful. My husband and I are originally from Homestead Fl and it’s very hard to find good authentic food that is similar to the Mexican food we enjoyed in our hometown.

We love to eat here. The tamales are very good, very big, and wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn husks. Love their chix dinner but language is sometimes a barrier so be patient and enjoy 😉 😊

This is the place to go if you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is smaller and connected to the market. The food was excellent, even down to the chips, which were much better than basic Mexican restaurant style chips. The menu is a decent size and straight forward. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. We will definitely be returning. Glad we found this hidden gem!

We absolutely LOVE this restaurant. Everything has quality ingredients and is cooked to perfection. It’s always a good sign when you see Mexicans eating at a Mexican restaurant. Service is always super professional/efficient and we never have to wait long to get our food. They have amazing soups and drinks that frequently change. We always head over after our meal to the grocery store/bakery. My husband is from the Philippines and there’s a lot of similarities in their food so we always end up either buying some sort of bread, candy or frozen treats. My only complaint is I’m not a huge fan of their chips and salsa. Maybe I’m just not used to that style but my husband and I enjoy the more typical chips/salsa served at most Mexican restaurants. But I guess it’s good to try something new every now and then too! Keep up the good work guys, we love the new beautifully decorated building !

Best Mexican food in Pensacola! Being originally from the southwest I had a hard time finding something that was authentic and this place easily became my favorite restaurant. Never had a bad experience and would 10/10 recommend.

A hidden gem with authentic Mexican food. The horchata is incredible - simply the best in the area. To pork tamales are a fantastic deal and worth returning for all by themselves. The ceviche is incredible. You may want to load Microsoft Translator on your phone if you don't speak Spanish. The food is worth any effort to order.

Loved the food. I had tostada ceviche and the vegetables were very fresh. The tostada stayed crispy through the whole meal. The waitress was friendly and brought everything quickly. I adore the art work too! This was previously the location of a very run down Indian restaurant. I love what they've done with the place. Prices were affordable and food was delicious. I will be back
