Amazing food and service. If you want to have a special night with someone take them here and get a table of the deck! Can't wait to go back!
I have lived in Europe and on both coasts. This quaint, romantic, unique, authentic French restaurant is my favorite in all of Kansas City. If you want to feel as though you are in Paris, this is as close as you will get.
Best French food I've had outside of France. Amazing atmosphere and service. Perfect place for date night or meeting with friends. Definitely have the escargot
Attention to quality and excellence in performance is the hallmark of this gem located in downtown Parkville. Easily the finest dining within many many miles. French yet accessible makes this one of my favorites!
Wonderful place, service is excellent. A little disappointed from the dinner last night. We ordered the large pot of mussels and the sauce didn't have as much garlic as usual and my husband fish was dry. But, other than that is was just OK.
Fantastic Experience!. Wow. Very impressed with the service to the food. The Osso Buco was as good as any fine restaurant in NYC. My wife's filet was perfectly cooked and a superb cut. The owner was all over the place and very passionate (and funny) about our experience. We will definitely be back soon! Worth the drive from south OP.
We were at Cafe des Amis for a private event. The environment was warm and inviting. And the owner and staff were even more so. There was a fixed menu for the dinner, but the staff provided special entrees for several who had special dietary needs. And everything was delicious!
Lovely. A favorite for special occasions. The food is very good, simple and tasty. It is perhaps somewhat Alsatian inspired with side dishes that could appear in a German restaurant. Nice atmosphere and service as well as an impressively-stocked bar.
Yes.. Please let me come here every day.
Best restaurant in Kansas .... Best
restaurant in Kansas City, by far. The very best.
Poop my pants. When I think of this restaurant. There is a God, this place is proof of that. AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Tres Bien!. I go to down town Parkville regularly and had never noticed this place before. It is so nicely tucked away that you'll almost miss it. I went on my day off for lunch and was happily surprise. The pate was SO CREAMY and DELICIOUS! My waiter was awesome. The crepes were AWESOME! To some up my visit, everything was AWESOME! Will attend again since it is just around the corner from home. Also gives me a chance to brush up on my french! Very romantic setting as well.
Best thing ever!!. Would have never expected to find this place and am humbled. The owners have went so far above and beyond with this. I want to eat here every day. The staff is knowledgeable about everything from the food to the wine and desserts. The food?!!! Get out of here!! Just go and let them take care of ya, my suggestion.. Sweetbreads and mussels ..don't skip dessert ! The owner is also a classically trained pastry chef - wife is chef in kitchen. Get down with it all. To boot?... The place is beautiful, comfy, relaxing.
We have only dined here a few times but should go back more often. We had the bouillabaisse as our main dish and it was fabulous! We also tried the sweetbread for the first time ever; it was fantastic! Our overall experience was really fun between the great food and the comedian who owns the place. Our service was prompt and attentive and we are looking forward to going back.
I love everything about this place except the price. Quite possibly the best food in this time zone but dont forget your wallet.
C'est magnifique! Wonderful service, food, setting and atmosphere.
OMG!!!. Had a five course meal with french wine pairing. This place is a GREAT French restaurant. We had dinner with the french wine maker direct from the bourdieu wine region.
Unique experience - Loved it.. The food is great. This is one of them places where you want to keep going until you tried everything on the menu. But what really makes this place special is the service! The owner Guillaume is out there taking orders and making recommendations. A real hands-on owner
I went with friends looking to try something new and I came out a fan and a regular!
Cafe Des Amis. This location was my first experience with French food. I was unsure what to expect aside from what I had seen on Travel channel or food network. We started our meal with the mussels appetizer and the escargot baked in puff pastry. The mussels were good, but the escargot was phenomenal (by far the highlighted of the meal). It came in a rich buttery sauce which perfectly complemented the pastry. My dinner partner ordered the special of the evening, the duck, and I the scallops. The duck was good - not disappointing at all, cooked perfectly, but the reduction that was its pair did not impress. The scallops were cooked wonderfully, and the balsamic reduction was a nice compliment. It came with lavender Gruyere risotto which was also very good. We did order dessert - the chocolate souffle, which was good, but not noteworthy. When the check came, it was presented with chocolate macaroons - which were incredible (better than the dessert). Overall, I would certainly return to try other offerings (I had my eye on the elk or sea bass)- it was an excellent choice for my first French food experience.
Paris in Parkville! This is genuine french cooking! The Escargot were amazing. I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the elk, both were equally delicious. We shared the chocolate soufflé, which was piping hot and served with homemade ice-cream and a red berry purée. The service was fantastic! We will definitely be visiting again!
A Beautiful Night on the Deck. After a long day at work, my husband and I headed over the Broadway Bridge to eat at Cafe Des Amis. Because it was soooo gorgeous out, we got a table on the deck. Our server was wonderful and informative. We ordered a bottle of Cotes de Nuit-Villages, and settled back for a relaxing experience. My husband started out with the soup of the night, a mushroom soup that contain five varieties of mushroom. The flavor was amazing, although the consistency was a little thin. My pate was lovely and dense, and served with cornichons. I ordered the Truite Aux Champignons (trout with mushrooms). It was a large portion for a French restaurant (actually the whole fish). Delicious. I allowed time for the chocolate souffle, and it was pretty yummy along with a small glass of port. Overall, the deck was beautiful and quaint, the service was perfect, and the food? Well, very French!
Tres bien. After five years in KC I finally made it to Cafe des Amis. It as worth the wait. We started with the frommage plate, the pate, and the appetizer de jour--pig's heart and lentils. What a great start. A small mixed selction of cheeses and nice pate. The pig's heart and lentils was dense, chewy, and deep--and a good choice.
Duck confit followed--tender, juicy, and flavorful. The rest of the party enjoyed trout, lamb, steak, and elk. From the "yums," "wows," and "ohs" I'm pretty confident everybody enjoyed their dinners. Throughout dinner we drank Bordeaux and Burgundy--not at once mind you.
Dessert was tarte tatin, profiteroles, creme brule, sorbet, and I can't recall what else! Espresso, coffee, armangac, and calvados rounded out a wonderful evening. Throughout, the service was excellent--attentive, but not hovering in the typical American style.
I'm looking forward to my next visit.
Great Evening. My wife and I dined here last night for her birthday and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. We started with the escargot and the pate maison. Both were done well. Following this, my wife had the pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce and I had the foie gras stuffed quail. Both were excellent. And thankfully, I preferred mine and she, hers. To cap off the meal, she had the mousse and I had the souffle. Both were perfect.
I would say though, the best part of our experience was the service. Not only was our server friendly, prompt and attentive, he was quite knowledgeable about their wine. He helped us pick out an amazing bottle of Bordeaux ( I admit my lack of knowledge of Old World wines).
I keep wanting to compare this place with Le Fou Frog, but I shouldn't. I will say both places are excellent. It just isn't fair to Cafe Des Amis. Due to my years of loyalty to Le Fou, I will admit to being a little bias.
I remember lunch. It says it's only open for dinner but I remember having lunch there. So, I do know it's been a long while. I remember it being good but not great for the money. I'll have to try them again-for dinner. I'll let you know.
France in Missouri. Perhaps my favorite restaurant in the world? Love the food, the atmosphere, the attentive, accommodating service. Superb!
What a hidden jewel!! We are so happy to have found Cafe Des Amis. Yes it’s just as good as it looks! This was our second time back and and it definitely will not be our last. Such a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We enjoy sitting at the bar so we can visit with the owner Guillaume who most assume is just a French waiter. Thanks again for wonderful food and service!
Quaint, relaxed and just what we need to stop and enjoy life WITH great food. This was my first time here and I’m very unfamiliar with French cuisine. I’m an adventurous eater and enjoyed everything. I’m not a wine drinker but I enjoyed some delicious beer.
My friends and I had the pleasure of eating lunch at Cafe des Amis today. I ordered the rainbow trout which came with a salad with the perfect amount of dressing. The portion size of fish was large as the photo shows. Warm bread with lavender butter was also brought to the table. For dessert I chose to be adventurous and had an almond and pistachio cake topped with a strawberry mousse and a strawberry sauce. It was like eating heaven. Our waitresses were friendly and attentive. I was full but not stuffed. My bill was $23 , such a reasonable price for a delectable meal.
Went for the Rose Wine Dinner. Amazing food and service. Loved learning about the wines that were paired by the sommelier.
Never have had anything but a fantastic experience here.
The boeuf bourguignon was very good. The atmosphere was really nice. I am French and I highly recommend this place. One of the rare restaurants who have the red wine named bourgueil (usually a wine young french people likes because it’s good with everything and simple.)
My husband and I chose Cafe Des Amis for a rare date night. We sat on the patio and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The staff was gracious and the food was amazing. The wine suggestions were spot on. We will definitely be back.
This place has a vibe like that of a small, intimate restaurant buried somewhere in the French countryside.
The food is beautiful and delicious, their potatoes could bring me back from the dead for one more bite, and I'll definitely be coming back for more!
Had lunch here last Thursday. Wow. It was a true culinary experience. I had the duck confirmed dish. I can sat enough about how delicious it was. The rest also had a nice ambience and the two servers were attentive and personable. A rarity in a lot of restaurants today. Can't wait to return. Yummy.
