Enjoyed the BBQ here for my birthday. This place gives huge portions of good meat. The Ribs were excellent the pulled pork good and the sausage links Hot but good. Not the best ever BBQ but worth trying. You get yor moneys worth.
Meat good, Beans Bad. Where to start.....the meat is pretty good, the slaw is good, the tater salad is ok, the beans are just pathetic (I have no idea what the hell this is supposed to be or taste like but it resembles warmed over canned pinto beans with no seasoning or spices). When I think bbq and beans the word baked comes to mind and then bacon or some sort of pork, brown sugar, peppers and onions follow that up. Maybe that's just a regional thing but it tastes just as good on the Gold Coast as it does on the Dirty Coast. Anyhoodle, I'll be back but I pick another side and I'll bring my own sauce. That's my only other grumble. Obivously you think the sauce is good if you only have one flavor. Please think about a sweeter, stickier, spicier sauce. I gurantee you that it will be more popular than the original which looks the part and even has an awesome texture but all I taste is vinegar.
Two meat combo was enough for me and my meat loving hubby with leftovers! Had pulled pork and ribs- both were good. Beans/rice were boring. Sides that we ordered (potato salad and mac and cheese) were just ok. Go for the meat.
Was on a business trip out in SF and just happened to be nearby. What great prices for the amount of food you receive. Ribs, brisket and pork. Really enjoyed their sauce.
Really good pulled gorilla sandwich!! Tastes just like pork! Good sauce, sides are great as well. Large portions... should have gotten child's plate for lunch! Will return again!!
Great BBQ. Took the short trip to Pacifica on a recent trip to San Fran. Saw this place on Triple D and had to give it a shot. I got the 3 meat combo for 20 bucks. It would have easily fed 2 people, maybe more. I got ribs, pulled pork, and brisket and it also came with beans and rice, a corn muffin and your choice of 2 sides (I got corn on the cob and the double mac and cheese).
I've had better pulled pork but it was still tasty. The ribs and brisket were amazing...some of the best I've ever had. You could taste the smoke but it wasn't overpowering. The double mac and cheese was super cheesy and creamy. That corn muffin was sweet and light, not dry at all. All around it was a fantastic meal. My only complaint was there is nowhere to sit and eat. I realize it's a train car but there is ample room in the parking lot to throw up a couple of picnic tables so you can enjoy your bbq there. I also understand that they are clear about being take out only. Either way, I'd sit on the ground to eat this BBQ, it was that good.
The Mac and cheese were pretty good but the ribs not so great also has corn on the cob that comes with no butter but what I was most disappointed with was it was take out only
Good Meat. This little spot is right off historic highway 1 in Pacifica, and if you drive too fast you may miss it. I had the rib meal with beans and rice, mac and cheese, and potato salad. The ribs were good and nicely rubbed. Can't say I enjoyed the sauce, beans and rice or the potato salad, but the mac and cheese was good. It came to about 13 bucks including a squirt soda. Good enough to have again, but next time it will be just the meat and mac.
The pulled pork, the ribs, mac and cheese and BBQ sauce is so good. It's in a train box car on hwy 1, there will be a long wait onthe weekends but well worth the wait. Two big Hands on the Belly.
I am from the south and o have been to all the greats, which is why I can say that gorilla has solid BBQ from a homesick Southerner. Not to say the place is spectacular, it isn't. The pulled pork, however is smoky and flavorful. I was plsantly sprised by the brisket which wasn't rubbery or lifeless like it is at so many joints. The ribs are the weakest link. They have all the right parts, just something did seem to work. All and all though good bay area BBQ that can nourish the BBQ junkie's soul.
I love bbq and try every BBQ I come across. The Ribs and pulled pork were very good but I had better brisket. I will definitely be back again.
The food was AWSOME! The chicken and the mac n cheese were my faves. Didn't care for the beans over rice or the brisket. Drove two hours and it was well worth the trip! You get so much food I brought food home and had enough for a dinner for four :)
At 4:00 PM on a Saturday, we rushed to Pacifica on Highway 1 only to be told by Rich "Mr. Gorilla Barbecue" that he's out of barbecue for the day --until he added after a pause--"EXCEPT for a rack of pork ribs that will be ready in 15 minutes and that's a
Housed inside a bright orange box car along Highway 1 in Pacifica is the best BBQ you'll ever have!
Gorilla BBQ is a restaurant located inside a railroad car on the side of Highway One in Pacifica. We’ve read about this place (it was featured in the Wall Street Journal) and finally got a chance to try it, after driving through the beautiful new Tom Lantos Tunnel. Insider Tip – Get the 3 Meat Combo. No seating inside or outside, so be prepared to eat in your car or drive to the beach. Cuisine – BBQ Location – Pacifica, On Highway 1 Opened – 2006 Service – Gorilla BBQ had friendly, efficient service with good recommendations. Verdict – Gorilla BBQ hit the spot for large quantities of quality meat and sides. Be sure to check it out if you are passing through this area. This BBQ might be better than Memphis Mini’s in Sa
This food is good. Got the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich and the meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. Saw this place on my way to Grey Whale Cove and saw the long line stretching down the street so thought it would be worth a gander and boy was I not mistaken. The sauce that comes with the sandwich has just the right amount of spice to it to really set off meat and give it that extra flavor. Got the last of the brisket and really glad I did because it was amazing, perfect amount of fat on the meatband bbq to perfection. The sides are tasty though I would recommend the potato salad the most had loads of flavor and no onions which is a plus for me. The cornbread is good comes in a little muffin though I wish it had been warmed and came with butter. The beans in rice was bland had no spices at all I guess I could have mixed in the sandwich sauce but hindsight always 20/20 right. They had a lot of canned beverages to choose from but I am most appreciative that they had Squirt as thats my favorite and most places don't carry it. Staff is great and friendly and the service is super fast by the time I finished my order the food was out in about a minute no joke, so if you're in the mood for BBQ or just good food in general definitely check this place out.
Smokey, yummy, deliciousness! Takeout spot that has a small inviting counter to order. The pulled pork sandwich came on the softest roll, piled high with tender, smokey pork, and a tasty BBQ sauce on the side that was equally sweet and spicy. The perfect fit for the pork. Don't even get me started on the mac and cheese! I am definitely a cheese head, and this side was THE BEST Mac I have ever had! Creamy, rich, and savory sauce on fat perfectly cooked Mac, with the bread crumb crisp to finish it off. So good! The prices are high but reflect the quality of food (I paid about $15 for this combo and canned soda, but it could be easily shared between two people). There isn't any seating, but you are a short drive away from the beautiful Pacifica Beach where you can devour some amazing BBQ while watching the surfers glide by. 🤙
The BBQ here is delicious 😍😍👍it would be great if there are some outside dining area and restroom on the premises to wash hands even though they offer wet wipes.
Wow. I'd been wanting to go to Gorilla barbecue for several years and I finally went this past weekend. The line is really quick and the wait after you order is also really fast. They don't have any seats; they have a small grassy area you can eat at if you bring your own blanket. We drove south 1 minute and ate at Pacifica Beach View Park which has free parking. The portions are VERY generous. We for the 2 meat combo with brisket and ribs and were surprised how big the ribs were. We split the plate and still had leftovers. The brisket was very tender like brisket we have had from Austin. This is definitely the one place you should eat if you're in the area.
Been here couple times & tried all the meats this little store has but my favorites are ribs & beef briskets. Those are so soft & just fall off the bone (ribs). The dipping sauce is amazingly good too. Price keeps increasing but it's worth it for the taste of bbq. Line always long right before it opens. If you want to avoid the line, come around 1:00 PM ish. Plenty parking spots where people just buy & eat in their car. No dining tables here.
Great place. Friendly staff and amazing food. Any place that bases their closing hours off of when they sell out of food is a good sign. If it's not sold out get the brisket or the pulled pork everything is good but those two are my favorites. Also their Philly cheese steak is excellent.
