Eckl’s Restaurant

Don't bother, small portions, mediocre food, long wait. We were told 20-25 minute wait, 55 minutes later we were seated. The roast beef sandwich was tiny and bland. Some tables around us were surprised at the small portions for the price. Even the horseradish on the table had no flavor or kick, I'm not sure how that could be unless it was left on the table for the past three days since they reopened. We had our three kids with us and after waiting 55 minutes to be seated and another 45 minutes to get our food we were pretty much done. My wife had a burger which was extremely under cooked, did not taste good, and had nothing on it. They didn't even offer mustard for the burger. The large fry I ordered on the side was... small. I was hoping the food would be good enough to redeem our experience but it was not remotely close. Try a different place for your roast beef fix. Also, not even halfway through their open hours for the evening they were out of prime rib, which was their special that evening. We certainly won't be back.

We went here for the first time today and won't ever go back. The only excellent part of the meal was the soup. The roast beef, which people have told us was very good, was OK at best. One person at our table ordered it medium well and had a hard time biting it because it was too tough. My roast beef, which I ordered well done, was not tough but it really didn't have much flavor. We have had better roast beef at many restaurants locally. I also had to pay for refills on my pop, the first time I have encountered that in many years of dining out. One of the waitresses had the personality of a brick. Overall, it was very disappointing.

Fantastic to see the restaurant open again, went there on a Sunday evening with a steady but not overwhelming crowd. We were seated within seven minutes and had a great view of the beef carving station from the more informal dining room at the back of the restaurant. Dale Eckl Jr. was once again doing the carving, what a captivating show. Service was great as was the food (both the Beef on Weck as well as the Prime Rib). The prime rib was a generous portion which made for tasty leftovers the next day. The German Potato Salad was the best in Buffalo. We will be back soon.

Considering the great reviews out there, our group was extremely disappointed with the entire experience last night in Orchard Park: Wait times for both drinks and food were interminable. 45 minutes for appetizers and 90 minutes for the main dishes. Some orders were incorrectly filled. Some drink orders were never filled. All orders for mashed potatoes were substituted with cold French fries without advance notice. 2 people in our group got up and left because their food tasted terrible. They went to Burger King. Out of 13 people in our group, only 1 had no complaints other than the wait time. Some people felt that their steak had been microwaved. Our waitress did her best, but the manager tried to avoid us. She comped some parts of some meals, but that was just not enough. We will not be returning.

The service was excellent. The beef on weck was very good. It could have had just a bit more meat on it but it was good. The NY cheesecake was very good as well. That portion was standard. This is our second time there and we were more than pleased the first time. It is a 200+ year old building and has a quaint charm. Dimly lit, it sets the mood, lighted floral ties on the curtains and white table cloths with candles on the tables. We will be back.

I have been going to Eckl’s restaurant since I was a kid. I have had roast beef on wick at many restaurants, and none of them are as good as Eckl’s. Order your sandwich medium rare and you will have the best sandwich you’ve ever had. Add homemade chips and German potato salad and you’ve got yourself a great meal. (Potatoes are vegetables right, LOL!) don’t worry you can go back and eat your grilled chicken salad tomorrow! New ownership has done a great job. Stop by and enjoy your meal just like you used to.
