Review Zazu Gastropub - Opelika

I am always impressed with this place. Whether I am in the mood for brunch, drinks, or dinner. The atmosphere is always so welcoming and the servers give great insight on the food and drinks. I always recommend this place to friends that live out of town. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries for dinner one night with sweet corn hush puppies. For brunch, my friend had the shrimp and grits and I had ordered the two egg breakfast with mimosas. My go-to drink is always an old fashioned.

Took my husband as a dinner surprise for his graduation! Loved the entire vibe of the restaurant. It gives an atmosphere that you don't find in many places. He had the duck and I had the chicken from December's menu. Our daughter had the hamburger. Everything was delightful and the portions required to go boxes. We had Korean spring rolls for appetizer and they were top tier! My only down part was the bread pudding. I had some here a year or so ago and it was amazing, this time it was definitely lacking so maybe there was a change of recipe. But overall great experience and I'd recommend to anyone, both locals and visitors 👍🏾👍🏾

Our food was so, so, sooooo yummy. Duck fat fries are my new obsession. We went at an odd time, 3pm, and the place was almost empty. Our server was great with recommendations and service. My burger was better than the one my husband got the next day at Acre. My husband inhaled his catfish po’boy too fast for me to have a bite…he reports it was scrumptious. I could totally see myself driving 2hr for more fries.

Absolutely beautiful spot in the heart of downtown Opelika. It has a very rustic feel but has been done up right. The menu is small, which is a nice change from restaurants that struggle with tooooo many options. Everything my wife and I had was on point. Great atmosphere and experience. Definitely going to be back and then again!

Had a Sunday brunch on our initial visit. It's in a beautiful building, with nice ambiance. Food was good. Tried the Poutine, Breakfast Enchilada and Pastrami Hash.

We had brunch with large group on a Sunday. Our food was delivered quickly with good service. The facility is very unique and nicely decorated. It is located in a downtown area and parking is free but curbside. People with accessibility issues may find it challenging to transition from parking to the restaurant. This area is a very safe location.

I ordered the Caesar salad, add salmon. Note, salmon is $6 extra. I was shocked how little salmon was on the salad. Pictured below. This is the first and last time I will visit Zazu's.

Very limited menu but everything tasted great. We really enjoyed the blackened catch of the day which was Mahi-Mahi on the day we visited.

We googled restaurants in the Auburn University area to take our daughter to fit her birthday. This one and a few others came up. The menu intrigued us so...off we went. The atmosphere is amazing. Interesting and inviting lighting, five different levels, very eclectic. The menu is diverse with lots of comfort foods done in a unique fashion. I had the sweet tea brined fried chicken -- it was beyond delicious! Extremely moist and the coating added fantastic flavor, just a hint of the sweet tea. My daughter and husband each had steaks--filet mignon and a 31-day aged rib eye. Both were delicious and tender. Our waitress, Laurie was super attentive and informative. Looking around during the evening, it appeared all of the waitstaff were similarly engaged with the clientele. Since it was a birthday celebration, my daughter received her choice of desert. She chose creme brûlée and was over the moon at how good it was! One of the neat features of this establishment is the option to purchase a 6-pack for the kitchen staff. We opted to do so just for the fun of it and in appreciation for fabulous meals. Hope they enjoyed once their shift was completed! We will definitely be returning to Zazu when we visit Auburn again and highly recommend you try it out.

Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food was superb. We picked this restaurant because of the farm to table menu and the freshness was evident! Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and every ingredient that went into our meal. Definitely will become regulars!

Zazu’s is literally my favorite restaurant in Lee County! The brunch is awesome, Lunch is amazing and Dinner is to die for! Atmosphere is so comfortable and enjoyable. Servers are top notch! And even the cocktails are stellar! Two thumbs way way up!

I would give it a 4+ if I could... The food was really good. We started with a couple of apps... the Crab Claws and the Pountine. (Also, they serve free boiled peanuts... but this Yankee in the South cannot do mushy peanuts.). Both were very good. I had the grouper special for dinner... was excellent. The wife had the pork shank... and our firends had the Redfish. All very good. Couple of things that prevented 5 stars... the hostess station was more involved with their phones than with the customers. It was a little slow... but, nonetheless, I would have liked to see them a little more attentive. Also, our foods arrived at very different times. Our 3 fiends got their food... and then the same runners came back upstairs and served another table... and then the same runners served my wife and I. I bet it was a solid 4-5 minutes between servings. Probably the only low point of the evening. Bar is good, nice selection. Decent bourbon menu.. but better beer selection. Overall very good... definitely go back again.

Visited Friday night, june 2 with a large group. Nice atmosphere & ambiance. Had the wood smoked pork loin. Potatoes were delicious but the pork was dry & a bit tough. Tasted the Salmon, was ...... ok. Creme de brule was a bit bland. Good time with friendly service. No Veteran discount. 1 to 5 (for the cost ... $... have your wallet handy) maybe a 3 due to the nice atmosphere & good service.

Beautiful place. Restaurant was not crowded but table of 5 seated at very uncomfortable table against the wall. One in our party asked for a side of mashed potatoes and was told several times that was not possible. Waitress returned several times because fish on menu was out, offered replacement fish, returned without menus to say replacement fish was out. Cioppino was pretty but bland. The best entree was the Pork chop with potatoes & greens flavorful & well seasoned - with the exception that it was raw in the center. Waitress was kind & apologetic, took it back to be cooked completely. I would have asked to speak with the manager but it was a celebration and not the appropriate time or place. We were charged full price for all items. The foundation is good, but there are issues to be worked out.

My husband and I came for our anniversary. We had Patty for our server and she was great!! The food was beyond amazing! We had Spring Rolls for an appetizer (unbelievable!). My husband had duck for dinner and I had the pimento cheese burger with duck fat fries. It was all just so good. We had Miss Kelly's grilled pound cake for dessert. It was delicious! Definitely will be going back!

Cool place with multiple levels and some upstairs patio seats as well. Good mix of craft beers and a good looking menu. We had the burgers and they were great. We shall return!
