Review Johnny Sortino's Pizza Parlor - Omaha

Erick Castro
Went with a co-worker on his recommendation, since this was a place he visited often as a kid. Overall, it was ok. Building is definitely older and dated looking, but perfectly fine in a nostalgic kind of way. Walked in and bam!! Right into a long line. Apparently 1130 am is a huge time for lunch rush hour. At 12:00. There was almost no line. When we ordered at the counter, the lady taking the orders was gruff and abrupt but not necessarily, unpolite. I handed her my credit card, she tossed it back... Same with my coworker. Ordered the pizza lunch special and got a side of garlic bread. If you have any kind of appetite, definitely get a side if you're ordering the lunch pizza special, as the pizza is really small. however, the pizza and garlic bread were really good. Overall, Not a bad experience. I definitely would not seek this place out on my own. But if you're in the area and want a taste of Omaha nostalgia, it might be worth a stop in.

Just 'had' to try their hot wings & 8"/mini Johnny's Pizza - not disappointed! Keep their sauce off your lips or get plenty of napkins. I couldn't help finish off the 3 slices; no need for a take out box! WOW - to think it took me so long before stopping in to this pizza parlor, it's my loss! We didn't mind the Arcade section but avoided the adjacent dining area for their game day setting. The four screens provide ample coverage, if your game is airing during their scheduled times. We looked beyond the dated decor and discovered a new HIGH BENCHMARK with their manicotti!! EXTREMELY flavor filled Red Sauce paired with an ultra buttery cheesey bread and side salad (we opted for the house dressing). We don't order pizza at a burger joint, so we didn't consider their burger options. The 8" pizza provides enough for two people but can easily be polished off by a hungry teen or elder. The crispy crust compliments the sauce very well with plenty of choice toppings for everyone, including anchovies for any adventure seekers. The checkered cut is standard but it didn't detract from our enjoyment. One might consider ordering extra meatballs with your pasta if you or your crew enjoys a meaty pizza. We found the food and friendly service more than compensation for the decor. COVID caused them to adjust hours, so call early or make sure you get there before they close. Either way, your taste buds will thank you!!

The pizza was great, and the chicken strips were dry. We spent almost 200$ in there, and they were rude. It was barely before 6 and told us you needed to get going. Love the pizza, but since covid, it's not been the same. I see them closing their doors at this point.

Went back to johnny sortino's for the first time since I was a teenager. Being an 80"s baby I spent some time there growing up. Lots of core memories unlocked. Onion rings, double crust pizza all were great. Just a good old school pizza vibe. Got to get there early because of the hours now but no complaints. Took my mom and my kids so they can experience something I grew up with.

Unfortunately the hours these days are limited, but super delicious homestyle/Omaha style pizza. But the other items are great too, especially the breaded ravioli, the meatballs, the lasagna, etc. It's a quaint, old school place that everyone in Omaha should try at least once.
Jordan Brigham
Soild fours! The service was kind and courteous! And the pizza was made quickly, even during their lunch rush! I got a pepperoni and Italian sausage pizza! It's delicious, hot, and hearty! And I love how it's not super greasy! The crust and sauce are probably my two favorite parts of it! The crust is crunchy and crisp. While the sauce is hearty and savory! Definitely gonna have to try different pizzas and other dishes! Happy I looked up local pizza places!

Miss this place. Excellent food. Only had a chance to eat there when passing through. Great cheese bread, spaghetti n pizza.
James Kaufman
One of the best pizza places in Omaha! Lunch specials are perfect and it is such a nostalgic place!
Jess Partusch
Very family friendly. An excellent employee named Ashton was kind and patient with the kids and went out of his way to help them in the arcade room. Employees like him are very valuable to the company.
David Austin
Best pizza and onion rings in town. Glad they are still open! Also wish they were open later! Would give the good 10 stars if I could
Cynyhia Dukes
The onion rings and pizza are great! The place is great for the whole family. The service is fast and friendly.

I wish this place had windows. The food is great. 👌 I enjoyed the spring mix salad over the iceberg. Lunch specials are great Looking to hire great staff!!!

This place is an absolute gem for anyone looking for delicious pizza that can handle your large group for any occasion! They make ordering super simple and the staff are just absolutely the most friendly. I will absolutely be back the next time I want to celebrate any other milestones with my family.
Gwen Adams
Delicious and great service. Don't mind the strange looking pizza. We were starving and couldn't wait!!
Kyle Nordyke
We stopped here on a Saturday night after driving by and reading some reviews while visiting Omaha. The place was absolutely packed but we were seated right away and because of the way you order we got our food quickly. The onion rings and cheese sticks were good and I would order again. We got a large 4 meat pizza and it was delicious. I liked the crust and the volume of toppings they put on. The cost was less than expected so that makes it all taste that much better!
Kenny Hesser
Been going there since I was a kid, brought my kids and now my grandkids. It's that's Good 👍
Shelia Hopkins
This is a great pizza place. Owner and staff were very friendly. Also the pizza was great!! We're from Oklahoma and this was a great place for pizza and great customer service.
Debra Blaha-Mcatee
The best pizza in town! The frostiest mug beer! Good prices too! Plenty of seating available! 👍👍👍
Patricia Anderson
As usual, the food was fantastic! Unfortunately, too, as usual, the staff working the orders NOT friendly at all! There was no line at all when we were there, but we were barked at, the lady taking our order was impatient when we were deciding our drinks and seemed pissed when we asked for salads. Thankful the food is great, or we probably wouldn’t ever go back.
Shayna K Vinderslev
Ordered a large Hawaiian pizza that I had to bake when I got it home because it was so under cooked. The dough wasn't done and the cheese was hardly melted. Total disappointment. I hope this isn't another Omaha classic going under.
Cindy Morris Maun
Good pizza, I don't think it's as good as it was years ago though. Picked up a pizza to go tonight. I was very disappointed that they use canned mushrooms!! I doubt I'll be back. Over$20 for a medium pizza.
Shelby Cole Graham
The food was very fresh and fast! The pizza and onion rings were amazing just like everyone says they are. The prices were very good and everyone was friendly. Will deffinatly be back.

Awesomeness....Even had left over pizza for supper... Highly recommend this fine eating establishment to family of all ages ..
Lisa Camp
Great pizza, reminded me of a favorite puzza place from my childhood!
Rebecca Zaragosa
We celebrated my daughter's 10th bday party over the weekend n it was a terrible experience.. The lady that called herself a owner of Johnny Sortino's was so rude and disrespectful and everyone around me was part of my party had to witness it ... Its soo sad such a place with good food has poor customer service. NEVER will i go back... unless its under new management ... I always had bday parties there and was always treated with respect and never had any issues...
Joshua Iltzsch
Hands down one of the best pizza joints in Omaha!
Daniel Doner
As far as the food, it's one of the best meatball sandwiches I've ever had. As far as the rest, it's a disorganized mess!
Jim Downing
Amazing pizza and onion rings. Great wait staff. Would highly recommend
Amanda Austin
Great pizza. Friendly servers. Fun for the kids and I can watch sports!!!!
Denise N Chad Bauer
Awesome pizza!! Lots of seating for large parties. Always important to remember that their bar is cash only. They accept credit cards for food orders, but no personal checks.

The food overall is generally very good, pizza, raviolis, fried cheese sticks, garlic cheese bread, lunchtime pasta or individual pizza specials, meatball sandwich all good. But really this place is about the pizza and it is arguably one of the top handful of local places in Omaha for pizza. There is not much to be said for the service other than you are essentially serving yourself after you order at the counter. Pick up your own plates and utensils etc. They are kind of stingy in that there are no refills on beverages and the pitcher for soft drinks are small, and if you want grated cheese for your pizza or salad that’s will cost you more. I’ll second another reviewer in saying that it is very loud when it is even moderately busy, with kids running all over the place. This is a place that is accommodating to groups and kids with a small video game area to distract the kids while parents eat. <br/>

Noisy. Oh the noise. The noise, noise, noise, noise. The pizza is okay. You order at the counter and they call your number when it's ready. Then if you can hear it, you fetch your pizza from the counter. If you are seated in the back room, you won't hear it. They need to set up a visible number 'now serving' sort of system for the place. <br/>Also, they are stingy on the Parmesan cheese. No shakers, just little packets upon request. And the pizza is okay. Okay.

The Sortino family has been around Omaha forevvvvvvver. More so than any other pizza joint in the Big O, this place has a 10:1 ratio of kids to parents. Every time I have been in this place, there has been a zillion sports teams gathering after a game.

Johnny Sortino's, located in an industrial area off of US 275 ("L" St.) and 79th Street in the Ralston/Omaha area, has been a popular south side pizza place for many, many years. The place is often filled (overrun?) with large families and sports league players, interested in no-frills pizza in a boisterous, rock-em, sock-em atmosphere. This is not a date place or a place for a quiet romantic dinner!<br/>It had been at least 30 years (you read that right) since my last visit, and I don't think much has changed. All customers must order their food and non alcoholic drinks at the counter, and be prepared to wait 20 or more minutes in line if our visit proved at all typical. You get a number, which is announced over the P.A. when your food is ready. There is a separate bar from which to order alcohol.<br/>The pizza is the chewy, doughy variety popularized in the 1970s. It isn't particularly greasy, which is a plus, and the toppings are fairly generously applied. But the topping choices are quite limited, and frankly boring. The group of people I dined with were split in their opinions of the pizza, with one solid thumbs down and three "so-so" opinions. Everyone agreed that a thinner, crisper crust would have been much preferred. But as I said, there are many Omahans who seem to love it just the way it is.<br/>The side salad I had was very basic but tasty. The onion rings were, in a word, mediocre. We didn't finish our shared order.<br/>Johnny Sortino's isn't fancy. Or trendy. Or attractive. But it also isn't very expensive, and it is set up to accommodate lots of large groups. The pizza served is essentially comfort food. That is quite good enough for their target audience. It just doesn't do the trick for me.

No pictures this time. I was here for a birthday party for my friend of 40 years and was just too busy to take any, but I did enjoy the food. We had the Johnny's surprise pizza. It has hamburger, pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper, black olives and onion on it. This is not your thin New York pizza. This is not your thick Chicago pizza. This is not your California pizza with the crazy toppings. This is Omaha pizza with generous amounts of  regular toppings and cut into squares for easier eating. I really like it. We also had a double crust Italian sausage and onion pizza. I really think that they just cut a pizza in half and flip half of it over. It was also very good.  The onion rings we had really reminded me of the ones I used to get at the Leisure lanes bowling alley. The breading was light and crispy and the onions were pretty thin, there were no leftovers. There are no refills on soda, but they do sell it by the pitcher. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to eat, do not come here. This is a party place and there are usually large crowds, many crazy kids running around and it is loud. They can accommodate numerous large parties here and often have them going simultaneously.   Parties are usually limited to 2 hours. They take no checks and are closed on Mondays. Come and enjoy the place. There is a reason it has been around for so many years, they do what they do very good.

Grew up on this pizza. Since I was a kid I was always eating Sortinos and I've always loved it. The pizza, that's it. I always get pizza for carry out for a few different reasons. 1. They overcharge for everything. Refills, cheese, dressing and a large 1 topping is already 18 bucks. So it's easier to pick up and go home. 2. It's always loud and obnoxious. There is always a birthday party so there are kids screaming and running around. Carrying a pizza back to your table with kids running around is like a obsticle course. 3. The staff has never been very friendly. It's like a 50/50 shot you get someone pleasant. So if you wanna grab some carryout Sortinos is good.

Went to lunch with my spouse on Saturday. I don't think the 10.00 mini pizza was worth the price. <br/>This place charges for everything. No refills! Seriously! Not only just a refill charge of .25-.75 cents but the cost of a new glass. <br/>My husband asked an employee( owners daughter) Lyndsey, how much it costs to get a refill. She said," You can't get a refill unless you but a new cup."<br/>Then my husband said " Well why can't this cup be reused and I will pay for the refill." She then stated my husband was being very rude!!!! <br/>Rude because he questioned why all the waste????<br/>I think Lyndsey needs to remember who pays her bills!!!! Just because this place has been open since the 60's doesn't mean it's great. Customer service sucks. They charge for extra dressing, cheese, and drinks. If I am going to go to another pizza place and pay for extras, at least it will be a place that has better tasting food and better customer service!!!!! <br/>I will never return and definently mention to others about the service we received. <br/>I forgot to mention... An employee reminded us that Lyndsey is pregnant! As an excuse.

Great family place. Sortino's pizza is always great-- fresh, good sauce, and great value. I hate to say it,. but their meatballs are the best I've ever had (mine included). The onion rings are a meal by themselves. Always tasty!
Rbt
Sorry to say a disappointment. Not particularly tasty pizza and way too much crust. And...charging 25 cents for extra dressing is just tacky.

Great Pizza !. They have been in business since the 60's and its still great pizza. They have changed the method of baking them apparently (the crust now has holes in the bottom of it) We always get the Johnny's Surprise or Hamburger Mushroom. The Lunch Special is a personal pizza, salad and pop, which<br/>is a great value. Oh.....and their onion rings are good too. It's a busy place, so expect some noise since people love to have group gatherings there and there is a game room for the kids.

Yumm-o. First let me say that the staff are the best! Courteous and prompt. The ladies restroom (I obviously didn't go in the mens lol) is set up perfectly for people who need a handicapped stall. Bravo!!!! Now for the food... Love it, love it, love it. We usually get the "hockey player" pizza. If there is any small negative, it's that it often is home to a hearty number of people which makes it loud. Oh well, just goes to show you it must be good! A+ in our book.

Noisy & Chaotic Atmosphere, Average Food. If eating your pizza while immersed in pure noisy chaos is your thing, then you'll love Johnny Sortino's.<br/><br/>Here's the problem. At any given time (especially on Friday nights and weekends) there are about a dozen large birthday parties happening in this place. I suppose that makes it fun if you're part of one of those parties, but totally ruins the dining experience if you're not.<br/><br/>Pizza is good. It's not great pizza and there are certainly better options in the Omaha area. They make some pretty good onion rings too.<br/><br/>For me, the noise level and ambiance just ruin it entirely. It's not like the pizza is so great that I am willing to tolerate everything else just for the opportunity to eat it.
Chad Weaver
I don't know why this place is popular other that you can bring a huge group there. Salad consists of lettuce and two olives and the pizza has far too much sauce. You can't even hope to keep the toppings on with them sliding around in all that stuff. My kids could barely manage to eat it as a result. The taste is fair but I'd rather have chain pizza than theirs if given a choice. The tables were pretty grungy as well.

This is great pizza. The ingredients were fresh and the pizza was baked to perfection. The price was a bit higher than other pizza joints around town, but the trip was worth it, nonetheless. The double-crusted pizza was pretty greasy, but still very good!

Felt Cheated. We used to visit Johnny Sortino's quite often, but lately we feel as though things have really gone down hill. Six of us went to Johnny's last night, and we spent over $60 on 2 large pizzas, 2 orders of fried ravioli's and 6 drinks. The drinks were not refillable (I ordered small's for the 3 children with us) and when I asked if i were to buy the $5 pitcher was that refillable I was told "no, you just have to buy a new one." What is the point of purchasing a pithcer then? Then when the 2 orders of Raviolis came up, there were only seven on each order, when the menu states that it comes with 8. I kind of felt like they thought that they could get by with not giving you that last one to save on money and hopefully no on would notice. Unfortunately my elderly mother was the one to place that order and does not like confrontation and would not go up and say anything, but i was extremely irrated. I felt like they were trying to take advantage of an older person. When the pizzas arrived, i felt like they were not done all the way. It seemed like they were trying to get the orders out fast enough because they were moderatley busy for a Thursday evening, but not overly busy. The crust seemed soggy. The waitress at the counter was very curt and short, like she was just trying to get through the line, although i didnt think it was very big. It was 6pm on a Thursday night. I really dont think we will be back again. I have tried a few times over the past few years, but each time I come away dissapointed. It used to be a favorite place of ours, but not any more. Quality and service has really gone downhill.
Erin
Meh.. Pizza here is good but nothing that really makes it stand out. All other food options (garlic bread, spaghetti and meatballs, etc) are all frozen/pre-packaged nonsense.
Mitch Lingo
Not good. As a pizza lover and a person who grew up in a family that ate pizza 4 nights a week, this is quite possibly one of the worst pieces of pizza I have had in my life. They are on the same level of Pizza Hut and Papa John's. I would rate it right around Big Fred's in "not good pizza." The crust is way too gluteness and gummy. The sauce was lacking in any flavor what-so-ever. If you are looking for pizza in this town, go with Pitch or Dante. Stay away from this place in a heartbeat. Also the staff is rude and not nice.
John M
Excellent Pizza. There is alot of good pizza in Omaha but Sortinos is as good as any I've sampled so far.<br/><br/>You can't go wrong with any of the pizza here but the "Hockey Player Special" is out of this world. Sort of a combo pizza with extra cheese. Wonderfully rich and filling. Get twice as much as your group can eat and take it home for snacking for the next couple days.<br/><br/>I also enjoy the individual pizzas they serve for lunch. Good value with salad and a drink. I would say that to truly appreciate the pizza, you need to order the full size. The lunch pizza is a good substitute when you are in a hurry.
John Wondee
Good pizza,great onion rings.
Foodman
Good food, however the pizza sauce is not right somehow....
Kaelye
Thought it was a mediocre place. The pizza was missing something. Asked for parmesan cheese which they didnt have but would sell you Romano cheese and they want to sell it to you. I also thought the price was just to high for a pizza joint.
Niccole
Good Stuff!. We stopped by here for some take-out. It was pretty good. The decor reminded us a hometown pizza parlor back home, super comfortable.
Melissa Mahoney
SO GOOD!. I basically grew up INSIDE this place. My family always threw birthday parties in the party rooms. The pizza is some of the best in Omaha. Much better than Big Fred's sad excuse for pizza. The onion rings are greasy but addicting. Nothing better than ordering a pizza and pitcher of beer here to share with friends and family. The place has a nostalgic feel and it hasn't changed much at all in the last 20+ years. I hope this place lives on forever.
Steve
Best pizza in Omaha.
Bassline70
Always great, always consistent. Let's see, with everyone in my family we've had several BD parties, a baby shower, and a graduation dinner there. The pizza is soooo good, the onion rings are incredible, and ice cold BEER and several TVs to watch your favorite games. The price is reasonable too! What more could you ask for?!?
FoodGeek
Still great after all this time. I love sortino's pizza. I hadn't been here in years, until tonight. It brought back memory's of my team hockey party's when I was a kid...<br/><br/>The decor hasn't changed one bit. This place has the feel of an outdated pizza parlor, but don't be fooled.<br/><br/>The pizza is still fresh, and tastes really good.
Anjuline
My daughter says: the best big pizza ever, I eat 8 pieces!
Omaha Pizza Review
Johnny Sortino’s is a well-known name in Omaha having been around since the early 1960′s. This family restaurant is very large, having at least three eating rooms with plenty of TVs, a bar, and a game room for the kids.
