Not gonna lie, this place is great! The food is awesome, and the service is spectacular. They didn't play "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada. Instead they just played a regular ass radio station, which wasnt terrible, but could have been better if they played EWT by Cascada instead. The food and service is on point, though.
Thanks diners drive Inn and dives for turning me on to this hidden gem. It will become a regular for me!
Not many know this but, in actuality everything is made-to-order, including the Navajo style tortilla btw, with super fresh ingredients IMO. They're not meant to be Mexican traditional it's technically a Navajo taco proper with a lean towards more traditional Mexican flavors, but in their own unique style. The condiment bar is awesome, cilantro, onions, jalapeños, etc., along with salsa machines for their red or green sauce. I've always been impressed with how they make their own dough to order, and how much they go out of their way to make sure everything is fresh, but it can take a little longer to get your order at times. There's a reason they stood out to Guy Fieri when he featured them on his show. I'm a loyal fan...
The taco - although a bit doughy for my taste - was good, good enough that I'd go back for a quick bite at some point. If you're looking for something a little different - and funky, in a fun sort of way - you'll need to try California Tacos and More.
Unusual but tasty. My friends and I were in Omaha to visit the zoo, and decided to hit a Triple D spot for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by the food we received. The California tacos were not what we had expected--the friend taco shell was a lot thicker than normal flour tortillas I am used to, almost somewhere between a standard tortilla and a pita, a bit crunchy/fried on the outside yet still soft and a bit chewy. I had the beef taco and my companions ordered the steak taco and a chicken burrito. All three were well seasoned; a good amount of flavoring without being overwhelmingly spicy for delicate midwestern palates. Service was a bit slower than I had expected, but the food was tasty enough that it was worth the extra wait. I will definitely be going back the next time I head through Omaha.
Deep Fried Goodness. This place fits with what you would expect for a place on "Diner's Drive In's and Dives", lots of American style Mexican Food, on the greasy side. The beef taco comes with very nicely seasoned ground beef on a lightly fried pita bread which they make in house, along with lettuce and a healthy portion of cheese. There is a salsa bar with liquid salsas in Margarita dispensers(cute) as well as plenty of nice fresh ingredients such as Pico de Gallo, Onion, Jalapenos, Cilantro(nice), and surprisingly Black Olives. I don't like Black Olives but they are pricey so it's nice that they let you self serve them, especially for taco salads and the like.
The taco is quite large and I didn't need the fried flour chips with bean/cheese dip that I split with my wife to fill me up. The dip was good, nothing special, and the fried flour chips were um... nicely fried, I guess, they were good, if unhealthy.
That's basically the vibe I get from this place, good old comfort food tex-mex with generous portions and reasonable prices.
Only downside: I would categorize this as a "couple times a year unless I want to die young" kind of place due to the lack of any visible healthy options on the menu.
Great tex-mex. Their chimichanga is one of the best I've had. Steak is the way to go!
Gustatory. I enjoyed the vibe of the place and the food. My spouse was more skeptical.
Great place. Up the hill from the Medical Center tucked in an eclectic neighborhood. Worth the trip to find it. Much better option than other DDD recommendation Brewburgers.
Good Tacos. I have only been here twice, but I thought the food was excellent each time. I have had the chicken tacos and the enchiladas and have had no complaints. I will visit them again.
Rough neighborhood. Go during the day. Well worth it. Food was fast and fresh.
GREAT TACOS. This place has great tacos and this is coming from a Texan! No one goes to Nebraska for mexican food, but this is definetly Nebraska good!
Saw this place on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Decided to stop by before basketball at Creighton this afternoon. The beef Cali Taco was really good. Almost too much dough for my liking though. I really liked the hot (green) salsa. The mild salsa was really good as well. Beans and rice are a good compliment to the tacos. I would definitely recommend this place.
Definitely worth a stop.
Great dive tucked in close to all the downtown buzz. Get the famous taco. We went old school and stayed with the ground beef. The host was amazing and brought us all sample of their pulled pork and brisket (newer on the options list for tacos.) Most definitely try the brisket taco . That was amazing. So moist and great flavor! That's some fall of your fork goodness right there.
Salsa is fire. Homemade heaven that kissed with heat. I personally preferred the salsa Verde over the red. Red is safe for you who like to keep the spice tamed.
Great group of guys working it here.
You must try their California fried taco. We got beef and chicken, they were huge tacos and so delicious.
Took a detour into Omaha to grab lunch here. A true dive, the California tacos lived up to their reputation that had them featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Cinnamon chips were also great - we ordered some and took on the road and wish we had got more!
We had a great Time as a family at California Tacos and more. We were able to order very quickly, and served within minutes. They made one mistake , but fixed immediately without a doubt. Food was SOOOO GOOD!😊. Owner came to our table, and asked how things were. No complaints here at all. Even took photo"s with the owner, and smiling along the way. If You want to enjoy yourself and have some great food, We recommend California Tacos and More, on 33rd and California Street😀😀.
Not a big fan of Mexican food but the thick homemade shell the size of a burrito sold me
This is now the only taco I'll eat in Omaha
The rice and beans steaming hot and covered w/cheese were the best I've ever had
Not gonna lie, the classic California Beef Taco is one of the better things that I have had in Omaha. I can't wait to go back and try something else. The prices are reasonable and the staff was great. Definitely like the feeling of the place, there is a lot of old meets new. Also a solid place for people watching.
Great little joint. Original Cali taco was good, stuffed full of beef. Bean dip was unique and tasty. House margarita on tap way better than the typical, it actually has alcohol in there 🙂
Their flour chips are A M A Z I N G! A coworker took me here for lunch and I will be bringing my family soon! Soooo good. The taco shells, fresh ingredients and brisket…🤤🤤🤤
It's good, but not my favorite of all time. Don't get the BBQ, stick to the Tacos and chips. Although their tater tots are a good choice.
