Review Sum Yee Pastry - Oakland

Quick, easy, delicious. Wish the dumplings were hotter but the taste was on point!

They have the BEST roasted pork buns I have EVER had in my life!!!! I don’t even want to eat them anywhere else!!!! I drove by a few weeks ago when a lot of Oakland was boarded up. I was so bummed to be in town and not get any pork buns. Oh well, I will be back in the fall. If you are lucky enough to be in the East Bay, you need to taste their food!!!

Stopped by for a lunch snack, tried pot stickers, egg custard tarts, leeks and pork dumplings, noodles and a variety of assorted dishes including eggplant, and other samples I can’t remember their name. Photos are attached. Flavors were good, service and dinning-in experience were basic and OK. This must be the 3rd or 4th visit here. Definitely coming back.

Cheap food that's ready to go. It's decorator definitely not the best tasting dim sum, but still good. The lady there is very sweet and gives great customer service which is such a huge surprise considering it's Chinatown. Gets an extra star because of her.

I tried other places in the neighborhood for a good bbq pork bao, but none comes close to the fine, fresh, and not the least bit funky.. I put my honor behind these words...THE SWEET AND SASSY YOUNG GALS OF SUM YEE WILL SOOTHE YOUR ACHING TUMMY WITH SUM-THING YUMMY!

I came near to closing and all the steam trays had been turned off. Probably everything was still o.k to eat but it gave me pause. There are a couple small tables to eat at including soy sauce, not that you'd need it because while the food isn't the greatest tasting lack of salt is not one of the problems. Large selection and inexpensive.

Bought two items to go: Lotus leaf glutinous rice - which was so-so, and a plate of Chow Fun which turned out to be putrid; smelled of decaying food; inedible. Chucked it, won’t be going back. It was about 4:30 pm on a Sunday. Curiously, the lady serving had portions of each item loaded in to-go boxes. Thought it was for efficiency, but not so sure now. More likely getting rid of stale food.
