Found this sweet spot after a local referred us.
Love the U-shaped counter & straight forward breakfast menu that includes grits and banana pancakes; the sriracha sauce at each counter stop. The OJ isn’t Minute Maid, the coffee strong, smooth & hot.
Regulars get served fastest and first, so if you're a newbie, be prepared for a wait.

They didn't bring coffee until after the food arrived. Service was pretty hectic in general. Strangely, I didn't care. The menu is everything you could want and the place is vintage Bay Area, oozing West Oakland. Will definitely return!

Really cute little place. Nice atmosphere. Tasty food and good service for reasonable prices. I had a breakfast burrito with tofu and avocado and it was good with their pico de gallo. Tried their pancakes too and I want more. Bar seating and some outside tables. They have beer bottled and on tap if that is what you are into with your breakfast or lunch fare. Kimchi and some Korean options in addition to the diner fare. Make sure you try the coffee. It was the best diner coffee I have had in a long time.

I love restaurants with a homely vibe to them, and this is the place to go. Friendly staff and good food.

Nice little hole in the wall Oakland breakfast spot. Nothing special, but a solid breakfast nonetheless

Good food. At least one of the people working there (perhaps it was the owner or manager?) is also an incredibly sweet person. She gives meals to a number of homeless and struggling people in the area. It's nice to see a good chef with a good heart.

Good vibes, good service in a great atmosphere, a real neighborhood joint. Unfortunately the food is decidedly subpar, tried this place several times and was let down. It would be nice if they stepped up their game, the Bottoms needs a spot like this

This place has changed in the last few years! Definitely miss the old vibes, which would have gotten 5 stars. The breakfast is still pretty good, just not as consistent as years before. Biscuits and gravy is usually my pick, but it hasn't always arrived hot. Great flavor when they do! Tried the chilaquiles, also pretty good.
Also be on the lookout when you park across the street, lots of car break ins. It happened to us in June, nothing was taken, just a shattered window. Have gone back since & haven't had any issues. .
Overall still has much of its original charm, just seems to depend on who is working. I miss Sing, the woman who used to work there and remember everyone who was a repeat customer. She was the best!

Last night, your kitchen closed to my brother Dominic Ward Sr. an hour before it did to any other patron. The waitress decided when he walked inside the doors, he wasn't going to get the service offered to the other individuals inside the establishment.
As he sat after a long haul in his rig simply hoping for a hot meal at the end of long full day of work, What he was offered was, rudeness, and a lie served with a heaping portion of pure distain. Even the cook caught the lie offered by the waitress yet, it was allowed. My hope is that this treatment reaches his fellow truckers as it has his fellow FaceBook traveler friends. I also hope people refuse to offer their hard earned money to places that take no issue with picking with whom they treat properly. And no, it may not have been the owner however, this is their public representative and that's sad. I guess the best part of is the refused to serve him. He didn't end up paying yo be mistreated and because of his experience, neither will I, ever. I will however pass along the events to all I find going to this area. I am a firm believer in if you knew better you do better.

Awesome food and real cool vibe. Had the breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! All my friends ordered different food, It quickly turned into a game of "You gotta try this"

Things have changed. Where are the fun Asian ladies? Food was much better back then. I had the shrimp and grits this time. Overall not much flavor but the shrimp was good. I may or may not come back. It was just ok. Service was fine.

It’s not just the good food but it’s the community of people who patronize this wonderful cafe. Love it.

This used to be my favorite spot for breakfast; I always enjoyed bringing people here to support a local fixture. Unfortunately I feel I must boycot this restaurant after hearing how they handled a young lady and her service dog. The waitress and a (seemingly drunk) patron harassed her about her service dog until she felt compelled to reveal that she had a mental disability so that they would leave her alone; they then proceeded to aggressively tease her for this, and demanded to see some sort of proof. The whole ordeal sounds grossly disrespectful and dehumanizing for the young lady and her pup.

Such a warm and friendly place. Sun is such an awesome lady.
Food is standard American diner fare, plus a few Asian cuisine items. Ask for kim chi.
The french toast is the highlight of my week.
