Review Cam Huong - Oakland

Albertino M.
This family is one of the most successful long time running business dating back to the late 80s. Before even new wave and Z Cavaricci pants were popular. They own several eateries all in Oakland including their own bakery a block away and a burger joint. There's more to this business, but I'll keep that at bay for now. Everytime I come, they immediately gather my order and I'm out within a minute no matter how crowded the place is. Being a press/media personnel pays off in the long run. Most places I consult feeds me so how can I say no? Even hipsters are getting the message that for $3.50 you can't go wrong. Don't forget their secret menu banh mi if you know what I mean. If you don't know then you're not OG enough. JOI OY!!!

Came in for a quick bite and you do get a good amount of food for the money you pay, but don't expect quality. The BBQ chicken had excellent taste but the chicken itself was a bit dry and the meat didn't taste fresh. The noodles had nice presentation and with the help of Sriracha it was not bad. The salt and pepper shrimp is something I will avoid next time; for $3.50 you get about 8 shrimp in a box but it didn't have too much flavor and a few of the shrimp was mushy.

Shredded pork banh mi was good but nothing special. Happy with it for $3.50. Good place for cheap sandwiches and various pastries. They did not have spring rolls, which was disappointing. A sign inside said $10 min for credit cards.

A good place for a quick, inexpensive bite. There is a menu but it seemed like the best strategy is to point at the various dishes, which are laid out behind a glass barrier. Once you've ordered, you can move out if the way, because they will ring you up once everything is ready. I got a chicken banh mi, which was tasty, and an iced Vietnamese coffee, which was super strong and exactly what I wanted. My boyfriend got vegetarian noodles, a little on the greasy side but yummy nonetheless.

Been coming here for many years( probably more than years) be it the Chinatown or new Chinatown location. Every class party, I would come here for trays of chow mien, chow fun or fried rice. Every fields trip would be a stop to buy sandwiches and rice or noodle. Food is good and price reasonable, but today very disappointed, son went in to buy 3 pork combination sandwiches at Chinatown location. It had some rotting cilantro in them and the bread was not fresh( crumbling like old reheated bread). It was awful to eat. I think this is the very first time I had tasted such a disgusting sandwich, my kids agree. I think back at all those years I had brought food here at both locations. I remember one time I had ordered chow mien from the international location it was burnt. But this really turns you off from ordering the same thing next time or maybe from coming here for awhile.

I've been here many times over the years. It usually has a line of people waiting but it moves fast. I never order from the menu I just look and point to the items I want behind the glass. In and out in 5 to 7 minutes. Its not a fancy place but I've always had good food from there. Usually it goes home to be heated up so that does make a difference.

This review is solely for the Banh Mi sandwiches. With that said, all I have to say is....THEY ARE THE BEST in the East Bay. The bread is perfect, the pickled veggies are just right and the meat....perfect. The roast chicken is my go to joint, but all the sandwiches are definitely on point! I've been going here for over 20 yrs and its been as good as the first time I've had it.

I've only tried the Beef sandwiches there, but today I order BBQ Chicken. Today they just handed the BBQ Chicken sandwich in less than a minute. Last time I bought the beef sandwiches, they have to make it and I have to wait, but then after I tasted it, it tastes so good and fresh. But the BBQ Chicken, no. Don't get it, get something that most people don't order as much.
