Athenian Restaurant, N. Tamiami Trl., N. Fort Myers, Fl., Here is my 2 cents on the food and chatter.

I order the special of the day. Oxtail over pasta. Never had it it. Never heard of it.

It was about 11 bucks.  But it was good.

I got a cup of delish tomato soup too. A salad along with a dessert was included in this special a good deal. Plus a rarity a was bun included

It was oxtail cooked in a tomato base sauce. On a bed of spaghetti. The sauce was cooked with sweetness of tomato and onions. The oxtails were big & meaty falling off the bones.

Alas they were very messy. I needed to man handle them to get all of the tender beef.

I love this place. A mom and pop joint thats serves comfort food. Quality ingredients, large portions at reasonable prices.

Service is top notch.

But because of this it can be very crowded.

I have been going to the Athenian restaurant for about 25 years. Good food and plenty of food for the money. The only negative thing that I could say about the place is the rest room was small and not too clean. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Pretty much all that I order is good. My lunch favorites are:  Roast Beef on pita, Greek pizza on pita, grouper sandwich, and cheeseburger.

Big Fan Local Patron!. I Live Locally,And The Athenian is Def One Of My Favs . The Portions Are Generous And Overall The Food Is Very Very Good. Here Is Some Inside Info From A Local,Who Has Eaten A Number Of Meals Here. Bkfst Is Def Mediocre. If Bkfst is Your Meal,Hit Perkins or Ihop. Potatoes Were Greasy,And French Toast Ho Hum. Lunch and Dinner Is Really Where Athenian Shines. Chicken,Fish,The Greek Dishes Are Excellent. Soup So So. The Greek Salad,And The rolls,Are Delicious. Another Hint: Avoid Italian Dishes,I've Had Italian Sausage And Lasangna,Here,The Sauce Is Spicey,And watery. The Turkey Also Was Not Good,It Was Not Cooked Well. The Chicken On The other Hand ,Some Of the Best Roast Chicken and Stuffing I've Had in Yrs.
Avoid Beef and Liver,I Had Liver Twice Both Times it was Veiny and Tough,And i Asked For Medium,and Got Well.
Fish Is Excellent,I love The Grouper Sandwich,With Fries,Which Have NO SALT. Perfect For Those Who Are in need to avoid the salt.
The Dinners Are a Full Dinner Soup,Salad, Rolls.Entree and Dessert For Between $11-$15,Figure $25-30 for a Couple With Drinks,Plus Tip Certainly not bad. Again,I Really Like The Athenian,And Certainly Do Recommend it,Just Like Any restaurant Some Things Are Better Then Others and U Have To Know What To Order.

I have been coming here for years. I'm from indiana and its the first place we go when we hit town. I can't figure why there are not more reviews. Maybe because it is frequented by a large senior crowd and they don't do many reviews. They have excellent food...all homemade and a huge variety with portions so big we always have a meal to take home. All meals come with large homemade yeast rolls, salad (I like the Greek salad best), and dessert (ice cream, jello, or my favorite...rice pudding). Tonight I had Mousaka and my husband had liver and onions. They have a 6 page menu plus a page of specials. I can't imagine anyone not finding what they are looking for.
Now you won't find this to be a fancy place but it is clean and they have great service. Give it a try.... I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised if its your first time. Oh, and they also have a glass case with other homemade desserts that are often specialty items I have never even seen before.... But they don't last long cause people take them home to enjoy later (usually too full to eat them there). Tonight I took home some baklava! Yum!

VERY DELICIOUS GYRO!!! Never been here before and picked the Gyro Melt. It did not disappoint. HUGE portions! The Atmosphere is a little meh… the building could use some TLC

Lots of food. Great menu. This place gives you great service. Food is Delicious. The prices are fabulous compared to the amount of food that you receive. Friendly and polite staff.!

Food is good, soup, salad and dessert included with meal! Downside is no bar! Some waitresses are better than others, but overall great place!

Excellent food at a fair price. The building could use some upgrades but the food and service make up the difference.

November 2017 Athenian Restaurant, Tamiami Trl., North Fort Myers,Fl. Here is my 2 cents and chatter. This is an old skool proper eatery. They give you bread, soup or salad and a big filling entree at a reasonable price. I got a great split pea soup & a salad. My meal was medium cooked lamb chops. Great veggies and mashed taters with a good gravy. Service was stellar. They do a outstanding breakfast. One of my favorites places Athenian Restaurant, Tamiami Trail, N. Fort Myers, Fl., Here is my 2 cents on the food, a rant & rave a bit of chatter. The Food. 9 bucks for a full ole fashion meal. In this case if you are german descent. Pork ribs with sauerkraut, mashed taters/gravy, house made coleslaw and housemade chicken noodle soup. Almost like mother use to make. It may not tickle your taste buds, BUT more than you needed it fills your belly without emptying your wallet. ( plus many other entrees at this price ) Soup was good. Rave... Good chow without breaking the bank. Rant...Too bad other places do not do this. Service was great... Makes you feel like you are at a home..ell after several recommendations by folks I swim with at the community pool. I checked out this place. It was a Sunday around 1130 am. Place was half full You seat yourself. My waitress, Irene was Outstanding!. Explain the menu pointed out the special. told what she liked. Very personable. This is not a fancy place an OLD School basic food. An entrée comes with soup, salad, (Greek is great) roll, 2 sides and a dessert.. Menu has Lots of seafood, pasta ,large breakfasts, lamb shank meatloaf chicken fried steak, etc. . Service was good. If you are a calorie counter stay away. If you are hungry bring an appetite and a doggie bag. I will definitely return.

You can't go wrong at this place. Bring an appetite or take a box of leftovers home. The top 2 on a plate were breakfast. The bottom picture that's in a box was take out corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots.
