Review Kobayashi Sushi Restaurant - Noblesville

Karen Demerly
Food was great! And the staff were very kind and attentive. The place is fairly small and a bit outdated, but you kind of forget about that once the food comes. I sat at the sushi bar and had the Tropical roll (so good!) and a sample appetizer. The sushi practically melted in my mouth. Good stuff.

When I want the best sushi around or some amazing chicken fried rice, I go here. I was introduced to this place about three years ago and it has never disappointed. Great lunch bento boxes, selection of alcohol, and all around great food. The staff is very welcoming and loves to chat with you when they recognize you're a regular. They also have the best hot and sour soup around. If you see me there, say hi and let me know you read my review.

I tried Kobayashi this past weekend with my family and it was very impressed! My family loves going there so I had to give it a try. The orange chicken was super flavorful with real pieces of orange zest in it! I loved the bento option because it came with soup & salad as well as two pieces of sushi. It was so good! My husband got the General Tso’s dinner and loved it. We also REALLY loved the crab Rangoon. Definitely a must have! I’ll for sure be back here. We celebrated our grandmas birthday and they were very kind and accommodating to our large party.

Always order this on door dash during lunch at work! Always taste good. Very filling too. If you do dine in, if I remember correctly they do have lunch specials. The California rolls are really delightful! And I also recommend the gyoza too, melts in your mouth!

Nice presentation and flavor on the rolls. Liked our choices, not really sure what we picked. Good selection. Going back.

Has been one of our favorite Asian restaurants for years. Every time we're where they are so good to us. Staff is amazing and friendly. The food is always perfect, very delicious. The sushi options are amazing. Every time we go, we like to try different options to see if it's as good as the ones we had before, we have never been disappointed.

Absolutely delicious! Everything was very fresh and the service was good too, it’s a lovely little restaurant on the inside too and I highly recommend eating there to get the whole experience.

So for starters, their hot and sour soup is out of this world. You can taste the sesame oil in the soup which in my opinion is a crucial component in this soup. I had the katsu chicken as my main dish. It was good but I didn't really care for the sauce that came with it. I would have liked to have had a Japanese curry instead of a ginger based sauce. The overall experience was nice and I will be going back.

We always pass by this place while we are visiting friends and family in Fishers and have always wanted to try it. We finally made plans to do so. This is an Asian fusion restaurant, meaning that they serve other Asian-inspired dishes along with sushi. On the outside, this place looked more upscale but the inside did not. It wasn't a turn off, just sort of unexpected. The outside is brick with nice signage. The inside was just meh. I think I was expecting it to be nicer or fancier, given the area and the outside of the building. Again, not a turn off, just wasn't what I was expecting. The sushi was very good. I had the dragon roll, which has eel on top of it. Usually, unagi (eel) are thinner slices on top of the rice. These were thick pieces, that was a very nice surprise. I also had the eel roll, which is a California roll with eel in it. That was also very good. As you can tell, I really enjoy eel. It's cooked and has a teriyaki sauce on it. My wife had the sushi dinner, that was 8 pieces of sushi (chef's choice), and a California roll. It also came with the standard miso soup and salad. The sushi was very clean and tasty. We will certainly make plans to visit this place again when we are in the area.

Friendly. Sushi is amazing but the udon stirfry was okay at best. Bland, needed to add teriyaki sauce or something. But sushi is probs the best place I’ve had

This is absolutely THE place for sushi in the area but I rarely get it because they absolutely nail their Thai, Chinese, and ramen dishes as well. If you want to try something unique get their Tonkotsu Ramen bowl, DELICIOUS! They also have the best pork gyozas around, yummmm

I'd rate the food but the service was so poor, my family had to leave. We sat in a half-empty dinning room for 20 min and nobody even made eye contact with us. When we left, the management didn't even care. Wow.

Best Asian food in Hamilton county!. Food is amazing! If you love sushi, give Kobayashi a try! Prices were reasonable. Speed of service was a little on the slow side, but it was very friendly and taste of food and presentation were awesome! This is the only Asian restaurant in Hamilton county I will be eating at for a while!

Normally pretty picky--and I like this place a lot. I normally don't like sushi and I'm really picky about where I eat Asian food. However this locally owned place is super. Everything is really fresh, and really nicely prepared. I love their Aloha roll, Chicken fried rice, and Pad Thai. I get that all the time. The owners are super nice and the place is very clean. I love this joint!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!. We have been here several times. It is worth the drive! The sushi is always amazingly fresh and delicious! Rare is the sushi restaurant in Indianapolis that comes close! Love the Mexican roll with cilantro and jalapeño! California roll with delicious crab salad! Wonderful hot and sour soup! Creative sushi chefs, attentive staff and generally a reliably delicious!

Amazing cozy atmosphere that is great for casual dinning as well as special occasions. The sushi is really fresh and there is a huge selection of specialty rolls. The sushi chefs are very professional and make neat arrangements with the rolls.

Quiet night in the restaurant... Prompt service... Good food... Sushi was good but didn't taste extremely fresh.

FireLt73. We have gone there on multiple occasions. The staff is great, the food great and the place is clean and spotless. Who would have imagined an old pizza and old bbq place could be transformed into the far east. They answer questions and have a great variety on sushi on hand. Taking my daughter there today!

Everything we ordered was delicious. The hot and sour soup was some of the best I've had. The Tokyo Tower and Spicy Tuna Handroll were my favorite. I Will definitely return.

CONSISTENT QUALITY FOOD. The food is very consistent and very good. The LUNCH Bento Box is only about $7.00 and has hot food, sushi, rice, soup, a couple of deep fried onion rings and deep fried sweet potato slices, sauce all for a REASONABLE price and fills you up.

The sushi is good, made by the owner. Consistent quality and fresh ingredients. STANDARD FARE - such as Terayaki chicken the like for those not interested in SUSHI. They took over the old BBQ location and are making a real go of it in this FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS.

We keep going back, only one bad experience with young waitress forgetting why she was there.

Best Sushi in Indy. Wow! I have to say we were skeptical - This location used to house an awful BBQ joint (Dicks?). The location is not ideal - Hidden behind a gas station just far enough off 37 to not be noticed - Although I suppose that is a prerequisite for all 'hidden gems'. Fantastic service, and honestly the best sushi I've had in a long time - Easily the best in Indy. I recommend trying the caterpillar and playboy roll. We also had one with mango and sweet chili sauce - I can't remember what it was called but it was the perfect 'dessert'. Dinner for 2 with a decent (~$35) bottle of wine was about $80. Definitely got our money's worth and then some. If you're in town and thinking about trying one of the more popular sushi joints (Naked Tchopstix comes to mind - Which I'll save for another review, but let's just say overrated) - Do yourself a favor and head north for the evening. You won't regret it.

Kobayashi is the best sushi and asian food I've ever had! Their food is fresh, flavorful and delicious! I love everything on the menu but my favorite is the Panang chicken, Golden roll, the playboy roll and the Thai coconut chicken soup. Jet and Lisa are great and the service is A+ as well. Give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Great Sushi!. The staff were very good, attentive, and I got the California Roll and Spicy Tuna. Had a house salad and miso soup with the meal. VERY good stuff. I think the best I've had in the area. They have kid-friendly food for families as well. Highly recommended!

Our hotel is in the middle of every chain restaurant known to human kind and we were tempted to just eat at the hotel. Then I read these reviews and we decided to venture out. What a piece of luck. Wonderful food, great service. We sat at the bar and watched the food artists at work. We had spider sushi, yellow curry, and another sushi roll. All deelish!
Abby
Great food... Not very good service though... We went for valentines day which I can understand being a little slow but it took over a half hour to get water and menus after we were seated... Then it took another 15 mins for her to come take our order. The kitchen got it out quickly enough for it being valentines day but she took forever to serve us. Then she forgot one of our rolls so we had to ask another waitress to get it and a different one for our bill before we ever saw her again.... I would go back to this restaurant just because the sushi was good... But they need better service

Amazing! What a present surp.... Amazing! What a pleasent surprise in Noblesville. All the food from the Miso soup, Nigiri pieces and rolls were top notch and perfectly delicious. The staff was friendly, the service prompt and I can't wait to try more sushi from here again.

Delicious.. right in Noblesville just off IN37/Greenfield. I dont have to leave Noblesville to get great sushi anymore. This place is great, friendly and delicious.
Kobayashi Roll was excellent.... topped with seared tuna.
Maui Roll was very good and as basic as it sound the best spicy tuna roll I have ever had.
They also made some just cream cheese and avacado rolls for our five year old.

Nice dinner. We ate at Kobayashi tonight for the firs time. The food was great along with the service. My 8 year old daughter tried the different types of sushi and loved every one. We ate the Golden Roll, the Playboy, the Spider Roll, and some crab wontons. The only bad thing is that they don't take American Express and that is how we mainly pay for our dinners. Otherwise, we will probably get there again!

More than Japanese-Chinese food too!. This place is where Bodacious Dick BBQ was in Noblesville. Very good food. So fresh and tasty! The food doesn't pollute your body(later..you know what I mean)like other places that pour MSG into their food to make it taste good. I go to Asian Grill alot, but this place is my fav. now. They have the best (chicken) fried rice Ive ever had..better than Asian grill (and of course, better than) Super China Buffet. I highly recommend this place!

First Visit To Kobayashi. My husband decided to get adventurous and offer to take me out for sushi last night (he's never really tried sushi before because he didn't think he'd like it). I LOVE sushi and was thrilled to go. I've had sushi at several other well-known chains and popular sushi bars so I knew what to expect as far as quality, taste & price.

We went later in the evening around 9pm and there were only a few tables, but we were greeted with smiling, pleasant faces. Their menu has good variety to offer and the prices are VERY reasonable. We had their calamari appetizer (very mild & tasty) and I ordered the Atomic roll, the Golden roll and the Snow roll for us to try. The sushi tasted WONDERFUL!! It was very fresh, just the right flavors, textures, spice & sauce and much to my surprise my husband LOVED all of the sushi he tried!! The owner came by to ask us how everything was and she was very sweet, hospitable and genuinely interested in our opinion. She recommended we try their tempura banana dessert, which we did and found it to be VERY tasty, a light dessert with a very mild, delicate flavor which was very yummy! Their plum wine is also very nice. :-)

This was a VERY pleasant dining experience for us & we will definitely be back for more fresh sushi!

My husband and I chose to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary here...it proves to be a unique, quiet setting. We enjoyed tasty food, friendly service, and a comfortable and genuine atmosphere. The menu is extensive and authentic...not commercial. I tried the hot and sour soup...it was rich and excellently spicy! I also had the shrimp tempura...delicious! The fried rice seemed a bit bland comparatively speaking, but this won't keep us from returning and trying more from the menu!

Mouthwatering Meatless Option. When visiting Kobayashi in Noblesville, it's very hard to order sushi or other dishes because we love the Panang Curry even more.

For those who've never had it, this Thai influenced dish contains sliced peppers, onions, mushrooms, potato or taro root and your choice of meat or tofu in a savory coconut based stew.

Husband and I eat meat. However, in an effort to eat in a more healthy way (less meat), we discovered that we prefer the Panang Curry made with tofu instead of meat. He orders his Thai-hot to add heat. I like the standard recipe.

The tofu seems to soak up this thick, tasty curry sauce in a way chicken or beef cannot. This dish is very satisfying on so many levels.

A great way to try Panang Curry is to order the luncheon Bento Box. For a great price, this lunch offering comes with an incredible amount of food: choice of Miso or Hot & Sour soup, ginger mayonaise dressed salad, vegetable tempura with dippy sauce, rice, and two bites of california roll.

A real vegetarian could easily be satisfied. Others could be tempted to eat less meat with this mouthwatering meatless option.

Best Service - Freshest Sushi. Kobayashi is something this country could use more of. A place that offers service the way service should be. Everyone is treated with respect and if you are a customer, you are appreciated. The quality of the Sushi is the best around and the skills of the Chef's and determination to provide the best service is apparent. The Dining staff makes sure all customers are taken care of and the friendly atmosphere is worth the visit.

Take the time
Take the trip if you live outside of Noblesville

You will find this cozy place is friendly, fresh and worth the repeat visits. There is a good selection of Sake and Asian kitchen foods as well. You wont be disappointed.

Thank you for having gluten free food also. I get sick of eating salad. Anyway, I try something new each time I come in. I have yet to b disappointed.

Delicious Northside Sushi. After once being a Noble Roman's pizza joint, as well as an unpleasing BBQ restaurant, comes a fresh, new Japanese alternative in the form of tasty sushi. Having tried multiple sushi restaurants in the area, the sushi at Kobayashi ranks up there with the best. Ingredients are fresh, rolls are imaginative, and the service is top-notch. While I do wish that the restaurant had received a cosmetic overhaul after the BBQ establishment disappeared, the caliber of service provided at Kobayashi is enough for me to overlook the unambitious decor. The owners/chefs are the friendliest around and make Kobayashi stand out in the crowd of Indianapolis sushi restaurant wanna be's. Next time you're on the northside and in the mood for sushi, check out Kobayashi.

Great Weekday Lunch. Kobayashi is a great quick lunch spot in Noblesville. The staff is always friendly and the food comes fast. The Bento Box and Sushi lunch specials provide generous portions at a great price. You can get a great lunch, including tip, for around 10 bucks.

Best Asian Cuisine and Sushi. By far, THE best authentic asian cuisine and sushi in our area. I am very picky when it comes to japanese cuisine and especially sushi- having grown up eating in some of the greatest sushi restaurants within Chinatown in Chicago over the years. My wife and I have been to some of the "asian" restaurants around Indy; most are "OK" but, Kobayashi is "OUTSTANDING". From their sake selection to the deserts, atmosphere, funiture and the wait staff- everything is wonderful. Kobayashi is even kid friendly- they have highchairs and no one seemed to mind when our 4 month old started to have a meltdown. I, myself, tried the Sushi Deluxe combo, spicy tuna, and ordered a large bottle of Golden Plum Sake. It was incredible! Also, when you go, you have to try the Tempora Banana dessert, so delicious! Topping off our visit, the owner is ACTUALLY the sushi chef working behind the sushi bar! Before you leave, make sure you tell him how much you enjoyed your visit. He was happy to thank us in return and even walked out with us holding the door. We can't wait to go back again!

Super staff!. After reading the two neagative reviews I was surprised how great the resturant really was. The Hot and Sour soup is the best we've had, the fried Calimari also excellent, the staff very friendly and engaging. The sushi has been excellent California Roll is the bomb but expanding my pallet. But for the low cost and the extremely generous portions it is the best deal around. After writing this I'm going to have dinner there.
MikeyD
In Noblesville this is by far the best sushi place! The tuna rolls are so fresh and delicious. I was quite happy with my selections and was surprised at how reasonably priced it was. I can't wait to come back!
Indy Dinner
Worth a second try. I did not like this place the first time I went but decided to give it second chance. Boy am I happy I did. The flounder nigiri was outstanding. The hot and sour soup lacked mushrooms which I love but the flavorful broth made up for it. I was hesitant to order green curry from a Japanees restaurant but thought I would give it a shot. It was not served in a bowl with lots of broth like I am used. They served it in the bento box but the flavors were great. The tofu was fried which gave a great texture. It also had button mushrooms, woodear mushrooms, pineapple, green and red peppers, carrots, and baby corn. The spice level was like a mild at a Thai place. It was spicy but not overly so. I would order it again.

-----06 Mar, 2012-----

Just ok. The same furniture is there that was in the previous BBQ restaurant. I guess the owners do not have enough confidence in themselves to invest in a remodel.

The miso soup had a strange sweet taste to it.
The yellowtail roll did not seem to have any yellowtail in it.
The spicy scallop roll was very good.

If I want sushi, I will still make the drive to Ichiban.

Wonderful sushi & Thai dishes. This place is great. Some of the best sushi I've had in and around Indianapolis - fresh, good portions, good prices. Fast & friendly service. And my wife who prefers cooker Asian dishes loves the Curry dishes we've tried. Oh and my 9 year old now loves California Rolls. Was packed last night. They are being discovered.

Great Addition to Noblesville. My wife and I are relatively new to the area and have been looking for a good sushi place. We were so happy to finally come across Kobayashi. The portion size for the vegetable tempura (appetizer) was much larger than we have received at other local sushi places for the price. The sesame chicken was very tasty and the tempura banana was a delicious dessert that I hadn't seen before. The sushi tasted fresh and was well made. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to our friends.
Kristin G
Just ok... Definitely have had better sushi in the area. There was a strange sewage smell in the restaraunt that made finishing dinner difficult. Probably won't be coming back.
Jen
My husband and I love sushi so we were very excited to try this out. It was delicious, FAST, and very fresh! The Gyoza appetizer was very good. I would recommend the Kobayashi roll. We will be back!

Best New Sushi Spot on the Northside. Simple incredible! This place has the freshest sushi and I am very picky. I cannot recommend them enough - make sure you get extra Kobayashi sauce. It is out of this world!
Aaron Kleyla
Before sushi and Japanese dishes, this location was nothing but terrible BBQ. Now it is delicious and very reasonably priced Japanese dishes. The lunch sushi combo is soup, salad, and two rolls of your choice. Expect the norm here, California, Spicy tuna, veggie, etc. the rolls are cut into eight pieces and are very well made. The sweet and sour soup was great but the salad dressing could have used a little more zip. For the price and the quality I am calling this the best choice for a quick and decent sushi dinner. Not as fancy as a wild ginger but also much easier on the wallet.
Plimpmama
Fantastic!!. Everything about this place is great. Awesome sushi and very good dinner entrees. Honestly some of the best sushi I have ever had. The service is wonderful. This place is a must!! Nice job Kobayashi's!!
Erin In Indy
I preferred the Tiger roll if I had to pick one. It had shrimp tempura (which was nice and crunchy, which you know I like) and cucumber inside and then had alternating slices of salmon and avocado on top.
RandomDudeEatsRandomFood
The appetizer was very good and so were our main courses. In my opinion it rivals any sushi I've had in the area. The only one I could think of enjoying more was the Maui Roll at Naked Tchopstix.
