We stopped here after a long walk and the beers, the atmosphere, the service and the food all hit the mark. They have a great selection of beers and we were able to get two flights to try 8 of them. Great vegetarian and pescatarian options. The nachos were yum, the coconut shrimp were crunchy and hot and the vegan poke was a creative dish. Nice open spaces inside and out. Definitely recommended for a good meal in a chill place.

Brussels sprouts were delicious ask for the sauce that comes with Avocado, Zucchini fries, a dippers delight.

Love this place! The food was great! I love the decor too. Old ship theme throughout! They did an amazing job of finding unique ways to incorporate it. Plenty of tvs everywhere if you want to watch sports. Service was fantastic and they offer so many options for beer and food! Highly recommend!! Also for two dinners and two drinks it was under $50!!!!

The service was good, the food was great, the remodel is wonderful. The IPA needs a little work, the sour was superb.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because there is no reason anyone should Ever put that much salt on the seasoned fries that came with my burger. I got unseasoned fries for the Mac and cheese which were still a bit salty but not like the seasoned fries. No way, no how should a French fry ever have that much salt. I do like salt, I'm not against it.

Oh and the schnitzel my wife says is Superb.

This place is great! The staff is friendly and lots of fun, the food is an amazing elevated take on standard bar food, and the drinks are delicious. Troy was super helpful with making our selections, and everything he suggested was spot on! Definitely try the beet poke bowl and the fish tacos, they are simply fantastic. Can't rate this place high enough!

The food was pretty good and we had a number of appetizers and entrees. The server was nice but there were some delays along the way, luckily we weren't on a schedule so it was fine. Overall it was a nice evening.

Excellent beer. The hocus pocus was an incredible twist on their usual stout with pumpkin spice and cinnamon.
The service was the best I've seen at any brewery. They were taking all of the safety precautions to make us feel OK out.

The best bartender experience I’ve had in Newport. I lived in Costa Mesa for years and wish I knew of this place then. Good food and great service at the bar. The drinks are well made and the service is fast. I highly recommend.

JP is the best bartender we’ve ever had!!! We love coming to Helmsman because of him. He always has a smile on his face and takes such good care of us. He makes amazing drinks and we always have great conversations. We will be returning customers always because of him!! Great food here too.

It had a great lively environment with nicely toned background music and lovely tasty food and it’s own choice of in-house brews. Five adults had a good meal for $104 plus tip. Great value after long drive from Venice beach in extremely heavy traffic. We dined in rather than take-out.

Had a great time at the Helmsman! Fantastic Bloody Mary to recover from the night before. Awesome spot to watch games and they have a ton of outside seating if you want a little social distancing with your home crafted pint of beer. Don't ask for terrible beers like Coors lite. They don't serve it! And the might have the best logo ever! Had to buy a shirt as a souvenir!

Being from Arizona I was exited to try a new place! And they were by far amazing. The best margarita pizza w/chicken I have ever had and it paired Extremely well with their strawberry blond beer. Try them they are friendly, and open to all. I will be back !!!

My suggestion would be to have more appitizer type foods to go with your beer my pretzel was not very good as fast as I got it it had to be microwaved

Great service from Ashley, she was the only one on, she was very friendly and on top of the ball. Juan (manager?) Did a great job supporting the restaurant when needed. They were very cordial and helpful. Food as always is amazing and I'm happy I make it a point to stop here when I'm in town. Never disappointed!

This place is a joke! Just based on the HIGHLY unbelievable appearance on Mystery Diners, never go here! It's a big joke and a cheap way for a bad quality place to get attention! If you're THAT good, quality and all, you wouldn't need to hire terrible actors to play bad employees to promote your place of business lol. Nice try though! Truly great and authentic restaurants/pubs don't need to lie, they exceed all on their own :)
