I love their special 'Tommy's sauce', shredded cabbage, and the grilled tortilla and fresh fish make for a killer $2 taco. Can't beat it!
I came here for the first time after a hike at Crystal Cove just down the street. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, but I decided to try to Panko taco and clam chowder. Both did not disappoint! The clam chowder had a lot more clam in it than others I have had, but that was actually something I liked. I mean if you're gonna get clam chowder might as well be able to taste the clam right?! And I'm not even a fish person but the fish taco was delish! Their service was super fast as well and it was pretty funny how they brought the food out before I had even sat down. Can't wait to try other things here!
That was the BEST and most fresh grilled salmon I have ever tasted.
It is small only a few tables. The food was really good though. We got clam chowder mussles, clams and smoked salmon. It was really good. Thee prices were reasonable. We will go back every time we are in the area.
Fresh, affordable and casual. There is something perfect about watching your daughter do summersaults on the turf grass picnic areas while eating tasty fish tacos.

fresh seafood at reasonable prices…near the beach? no wonder so many people rave about this place. it immediately reminded us of a modern version of places we ate in hawaii.
The food was excellent. The outside atmosphere is nice tucked away in a private courtyard away from traffic with nice table and counter seating. Enjoyed all the tacos, but the poke tacos were especially flavorful. Tuesday was taco Tuesday with $3 Bear Flag tacos (breaded white fish).
Really awesome place for seafood in southern california. We stopped here a few times during our stay to restock on fresh fish in our bellies. The portions of fish are quite generous, and the flavors are awesome. I suggest getting salmon or tuna bowl with rice. Hot chili crunch is the bomb.
This place has the best food ever. Everything is so fresh and made to order. You might have to mortgage your house in order to pay for lunch but if you have tons of extra money lying around, this is what you want to spend it! It really is that good. You can't go wrong. Taco Tuesday is a bargain if you only eat tacos. Extra Tommy sauce is a must.
The food was good quality and they had a lovely cold pressed cloudy sake.
The only thing that I would say led to a 4-star review was the high price.

I’ve had Bear Flag probably half dozen or more times since moving back to SoCal this summer. I usually go with a plate and poke, which always comes out fresh and very flavorful. Quality ingredients, no doubt, and portions are decent for the cost. I would say the one downside seems to be their ability to adequately prepare cooked fish. I’ve had Cajun snapper in the past, and it was overcooked, which took from the quality of fish and flavor. Tonight, I tried their Cajun opah, which was on their ‘recommended’ board at the counter. Well, it was definitely overcooked to the point that it was tough and dry. I had trouble eating it because it wouldn’t break apart. It also looked like they forgot to cook it with Cajun seasoning and they dumped seasoning in one specific spot right before giving it to me. I was hoping this place would set itself apart from the many other poke/seafood places around town with the great variety of fish, but I’ll probably limit my trips to Bear Flag here forward. There are too many other poke places that taste just as good at a better price point. Also, I usually do takeout and unfortunately do not notice the quality until I get home.
Bear Flag Burrito was delicious! The ingredients were fresh, nice flavors and the panko-crusted whitefish was tasty with the 2 Bear Flag sauces. Service was quick for dine out. Beautiful view of the ocean. Would definitely come back again for this burrito.
I don't typically go for seafood but this place does it so so well. The fish tastes incredible and you can really taste it in the dishes they prepare. I had a burrito and my gf got a poke bowl. Both were incredible and I'd gladly come back. The shop is very cool and you can even buy fresh seafood. Lots of outdoor seating and some indoor as well. There was a line at lunch but it moved quickly. Staff was helpful and pleasant.

Don’t think you can go wrong with anything here, but we love:
• fresh poke by weight with a side of guac and chips
• poke bowls or poke salad
• fish tacos and burritos
Delicious food at more than fair prices with beautiful views of the ocean. They validate parking (free for two hours) in the garage. Only downside-it can get very crowded. The food is worth the wait-but prepare to wait a bit. What’s the rush? You’re in California!
So, I was so hungry I forgot to add pictures of my actual food! This is a great counter- service restaurant that is fast when you need something good but quick. Not a lot of presence but really good fish and a decent menu. I had the clam chowder and grilled artichoke. The clam chowder was good, I’d have it again and the grilled artichoke was great. The fresh fish looked fantastic. Unless you want alcohol, the drink selection isn’t very extensive. The line moves pretty fast and the food comes out in a decent amount of time.

Drive an hour for the amazing bear flag burrito and spicy salmon poke. Hit the spot. Fish is always super fresh.
CAUTION: Once you’ve had Bear Flag, you’ll never want to go to another poke shop in Orange County!
This place is known for its Tuna or Salmon sold by the pound. No need to buy a cup of rice or anything because it actually comes with a bag of house made tortilla chips as well!
There are 2 locations: 1 in crystal cove and 1 on lido ave. If you come to the lido location, good luck finding parking. I do recommend buying the order online before picking up so a friend can drop you off with hazard lights on so you can get it and go.
You can also order sides by the pound or quarter pound, as pictured below. I got seaweed salad and cucumber salad both as 1/4 lb. I highly recommend the seaweed salad as the sesame oil tastes absolutely amazing with it. The cucumber salad I would probably skip the next time but its accompanying dressing wasn’t bad either.
Overall, definitely not the last time I’ll be visiting so I am excited to try the rest of their menu!
Outdoor area was nice, food was tasty & healthy. Draft beers were not as refreshing as I would’ve liked, but the margarita was really good!
It's fast casual type dining. Service was meh..the girl who was taking my order at the counter barely smiled at me.. but food was great. Came after a morning of surfing at Newport Beach and their seafood really hit the spot. Their fish tacos were great. I'm definitely coming back to try more!
Good food, I got small seafood plate with halibut sautéed mix veggies and a salad. Healthy and flavorful. I got there around 4:30 Saturday evening just before a large dinner rush. It is a walk up and order then find your own table, relaxed and fun atmosphere. They even have a kid's dinner.
I'm a big fan of poke so I had to try this place since the reviews were so good! Definitely a place you should try if you like fish. The fish is so fresh and you can really tell by the texture since it's not slimy at all! They serve their poke with salty chips that compliment the fish perfectly. I'm coming back for sure!
