Review Red O - Newport Beach

The fajitas were good overall but another tortilla or two would have been good. The other dishes at my table were enjoyed including enchiladas and tacos. The biggest issue for us was over an hour to get our food. So be prepared to spend time here if coming during a busy time.

Food was amazing. Service was great - friendly and fast. Had to take off one star because of table placement. Yes I know it's the holidays, but we were seated in an aisle seat.....and every minute, we would have someone's butt come close to our food or our face.... that was quite annoying and did not make for a pleasant experience. Dessert was amazing....look at the size of the tres leches!

Enchanting atmosphere with lots of plants, booths and unique decor. The entrance and bar area are stunning and they have a beautiful outdoor patio area also. Our server, Carlos, was very friendly but professional. Service and food were great.

Came here with my gal pals to celebrate a birthday. We were looking forward to happy hour cocktails and appetizers. I made reservations but was informed that happy hour was just in the bar area. My bad! Unfortunately the bar was packed so we had to sit on the patio. It was cold so they lit heaters and the fire pit for us right away. We ordered some really yummy cocktails and then chips and salsa. The drinks were amazing, as were the chips and salsa. We realized it was going to be difficult eating at the fire pit after I spilled salsa down my pants. Ugh. Happy hour tacos were pretty good. Nice ambiance but I’d rather sit in the bar next time 😊

Best chips in town. Delicious margaritas. Excellent service. Tasty desserts. This place is top quality.

Gorgeous place with perfect menu, delicious food and super professional staff. Definitely worth trying. Shrimp ceviche was so fresh and yummy, highly recommended.

The fish is gorgeous and best fried fish and lamb chops. It’s very loud inside and crowded, service is a little slow but what’s the rush? the patio is better.

Everything here is very good, nice atmosphere and good service. They have a variety of cocktail drinks.

We went here on New Year’s Day, so it was nice and quiet and got a table right away. Ambience - dark and very classy decor- gives your the high end dining feel. Food- got the vegetarian tacos and the surf and turf (tomahawk steak). The surf and turf was amazing- cooked to perfection. It was the right portion for 2-3 ppl. It comes with a lot of sides, salsa, beans, rice, tortillas, etc. Drinks- just got the tamarindo loco as recommended by the server, didn’t love it, was too sour for my liking. Service- great and quick. Would I go back? Yes

12/3/2023 What an amazing evening and dining experience at Red O in Newport. We started with carnitas empanadas and our favorite tequilla drinks. The new Cincoro Reposado chilled on a large ice cube neat was fantastic. I had to have two, lol. My wife had a skinny Margarita. Melissa was an amazing server and such a sweet, kind person. For our entrees, my wife had two grilled fish and one short rib taco with rice and beans, and she loved the dish. I had filet mignon with a side of shrimp and plantains with refried beans. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas, and we sat right by the fireplace, which was nice and toasty. Highly recommended. 10/21/23 Always a wonderful dining experience. My wife and I had reservations for dinner at Red O in Newport Beach. We started with drinks, chips, salsa, and guacamole. Matthew was an amazing server and so kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. My wife ordered the grilled fish tacos, and I had the filet mignon, grilled shrimp, plantains, and beans. Both meals were presented well and so tasty. Highly recommended. 9/15/23 Saturday night is alright at the Red O Taste of Mexican in Newport Beach. We had reservations for our planned evening out. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lovely hostesses and hosts as well as the manager. It is such a wonderful and welcoming environment. The background music was excellent, as was the very positive environment. We started with a flight of Clase Azul, and my wife had her favorite Don Julio Blanco with soda water, three limes muddled and mint. We also ordered guacamole, which was quite exceptional. Cesar was such an amazing server and truly knows his tequilla as well. We ordered our entrees, and my wife went with the grilled fish tacos, and I had the jumbo lobster tail with plantains and refried beans. Both dishes were well prepared and presented. Amazing taste and texure...so so good. Cesar was attentive and stopped by as I ordered a glass of Don Julio 1942 chilled neat. Omg it was so tasty. To top off the evening, we had the pleasure of viewing the fire dancing by a young lady who brought more joy to our evening. 8/25/2023 Another amazing dining experience at Red O in Newport Beach. We were seated at a lovely booth, and the restaurant had a very positive vibe going. Jose was our server extraordinare and did a fantastic job ensuring we were taken care of. We started with some Don Julio trquilla creations with chips, salsa, and guacamole. We then saw Melissa, another of our favorite servers, and we visited for a while. What a terrific person. We ordered our entrees, the 1 lb. Lobster with plantains, Mexican rice, and refried beans were simply amazing and well presented. My wife had the halibut tacos and just loved them as they are on her favorites list. We also spoke with Robert, who was quite professional. Highly recommended. 8/9/2023 We bought tickets for the tequilla tasting event, which was fantastic. Aideth C was our server, and the event was so nice and relaxing. We then decided to have dinner in the restaurant, and Melissa was our wonderful server. We had appetizers at the tequilla tasting event, so we had drinks and ordered our entrees. My wife had the fish tacos, which were fantastic, and I had the Lobster Tail with the #3 option of plantains and refried beans. Both dishes were terrific and well presented. Melissa was amazing as well, with a very friendly and professional approach and stellar service. Highly recommended!! 5/27/2022 What an amazing evening at Red O. We were taken to a wonderful table in the Pavillion. Matthew has a very good knowledge based relative to tequilla and we ordered a flight right off the cart with Casamigos Anejo, Don Juio 70th and Don Julio 1942, all amazing sipping tequillas. Matthew and I spoke of different tequillas on the market etc. I also had a Cadillac Margarita and my wife had a skinny Margarita. My wife had the Sea Bass entree cooked to perfection and I had the filet mignon entree with sides #3 and 3 shrimp. Highly recommended

Great service from JC, really good cocktails and food. Beautiful atmosphere.

A solid 8/10. Parking is plentiful, valet is also offered. We went at night it, the ambience is pretty classy, intimate, and dark. Great for dates, family functions, or grabbing a quick bite at the bar. I will say almost all the food is seasoned well, and surprisingly good. Had the Cowboy Ribeye and thought it was just going to be a pretty looking steak, but after biting into it was juicy, packed with char and salt! Service was decent, just felt a little understaffed at times waiting to place appetizers, entrees took a while, or refills.

I love the ambiance and food here. We came here for a team lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food and service. The reservation was easy and we were seated immediately without any wait time. It’s highly recommended for a group lunch in the area.

Been here 2x now and have had good experiences. It does get busy here so it's best to make reservations ahead of time. Great atmosphere & customer service. Food is really good! I ordered the filet mignon with the option 1 as my side, and the steak was cooked perfectly (got mine Medium-well). I have also tried the duck taquitos which were fine, they taste like chicken. Drinks here are nice and strong. Guacamole was good too :) they also brought out a tres leches cake with a sparkler for a bday celebration. Would recommend 👌🏾

Wow, if you love Tequila come here. RED O has an extensive tequila tasting menu. It was a great learning experience in how much I both love and hate tequila. The food was beyond expectations. They have valet parking, its truly not needed unless you want to save 10 seconds but not parking in the open lot next to the restaurant.

An incredible experience and grateful to our friends for taking us to celebrate my 50th birthday at Red O. The cocktails were delicious, the vibe eclectic and chic, and the service at par with the expectations from such a place. The food was well prepared, portions sufficient size and ofcourse great quality. I had the Tamarind Cocktail and Seabass for sinner. Delightfully sweet fish , well prepared and super satisfying. Others are our table had the spinach enchiladas, chicken/steak Fajitas and lobster/shrimp enchiladas. Each dish was as satisfying as the other. Special thanks to Carlos for talking great care of us. We had a great time and thanks for the celebratory on the house dessert with sparkler. Made it even more special. Keep it up and hope to be back again soon.

We had a baby shower here in the outside, but covered area to the right of the main door. The food, drinks and service was excellent. Lots of free parking and optional valet parking. We were allowed to decorate and the service was perfect. Lot of compliments on the service staff - great job, thank you!
