Review Northern Trails Bar & Grill - Newaygo

Well known in the area for its entertainment. They host Trivia, Karaoke, and Dancing on different nights throughout the week. Beautiful facility with an outdoor patio. Easily the best burgers in the area, but their entree quality is inconsistent. Drinks are modestly priced and fairly consistent. Overall I recommend giving this place a try.

We love the food. The noise in the building is rough for those with sensitive hearing. The waitstaff is always very friendly and strive to ensure 100% accuracy. When we call in orders, I feel like the noise coupled with an old phone? Make it difficult to place an order, but we manage through it.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch shortly after they had opened for the day. Having grown up in Howard City I always viewed the place as just another whole in the wall bar that all the townies flock to. So I never had the desire to go there. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The food was really good and the atmosphere and service were shockingly decent. We’ll definitely be back again.

Great service and food. Tara was my server. Great job. Fun atmosphere. Bar side, dining side, outdoor area. Ample parking. Great Northern feel to the decor and surrounding area. Prices reasonable and food was delicious. Reuben, French dip, salmon, sides. I would come again. And would recommend to a friend.

We got the Reuben and the chicken burrito with a slice of German chocolate cake. The onion rings are the best. Everything tastes amazing, food came out fast, Tara was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and specials. Servings are worth the price. Will definitely be back for our next date.

We had a group of 25 but made Reservations for 20. They had very positive attitudes for taking care of all of us. Edra was our waitress and she was very good. A HUGE Thank You to her and the cooks.

We enjoy stopping here on our way home. Great food, service is always friendly, and love the atmosphere. TV's for sports and such. Wide open space with tall and short tables and plenty of room at the bar.

I had a French dip and it was good, the meat was lean with alittle crispy to it, for me I like that but the onion rings were very grease, normal I guess, love the atmosphere, service was great and price was reasonable

The food and service are great. I was hoping to get the walleye dinner, but they had replaced it with Grouper bites. Lightly breaded and flavorful! All the dishes coming out of the kitchen liked great. I will be returning when in the area.

For being almost in the middle of nowhere, this place was rocking. The restaurant was very large. The food I had was some of the best I have had in a very long. Despite it being packed I had excellent service. On my way out, there were many people waiting to get a table.

Ya just can't go wrong with this place, everything they have on the menu is very good! We recently had the nachos supreme, chicken salad and a few cocktails. Over the years I've pretty much had everything on the menu and I recommend it all. A few weeks ago we rolled in unannounced with a group and they took care of us while simultaneously serving a wedding party. The staff is always on point and attentive. Great place for everyone!

Great perch dinner. Great beef & cheddar samich for my wife! Christina was a wonderful server with accurate suggestions on ordering. Nothings cheap these days, but we will be back! Even brought home a nice portion for lunch tomorrow. Hope it warms ok in the air fryer.

Great and Awesome atmosphere! Open and spacious so even if you have a lot of people you don't feel claustrophobic. The servers treated us kindly and the food was great! Good time for when you're done tubing down the river! 😋

It’s a very spacious, clean place with great food! There is a bar side and a dining side, both of which are perfect for a bite to eat. I highly recommend their blackened chicken salad or chicken wrap. Their food and drinks are great! There are usually deals on drinks, which is nice too! People sing karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights mixed with a good DJ too. There is a smaller dance floor, which is neat to see too. It’s a nice place to visit for lunch, especially if you’re in the area!

I ordered the Jack Daniels Burger, expecting something similar to Friday's Jack Daniels burger and got nothing like that. The burger was prepared perfectly however they injected Jack Daniels whiskey into the burger. Good but not what I expected, for me not the best after taste but overall the burger was very well put together. We ordered the Chips Blanco and it was wonderful with a lot of cheese.

We go here on Sunday evenings sometimes 4 of us sometimes 9....we like the food and enjoy our time

I've eaten here at least four times and every time the food was awful and I spent a lot of money for garbage. Today i had a bacon cheeseburger and the bun was cold, the burger was not even hot enough to melt the cheese, plus they charged an extra .50 for a pickle and.50 for onion on my burger, really? The burger meat tasted old and grizzly too. How hard is it to make a good burger? Warm the bun at least, melt the cheese, if it's a bacon burger at least put enough bacon on it to taste it. A $10 burger ought to be worth eating! Plus, the dining room is always so cold you feel like your freezing to death, who wants to go out to eat and be cold? I don't know why I thought it would be any better this time, but I'll never eat there again. The only thing good was the side salad. The waitress was good though! Spent $52 including tip and left pissed off again! I hate wasting my money on a crappy meal, hire some people who know how to cook and turn up the heat please!

I'm only giving 1 star because I can not leave 0. We had horrible sevice and the food was blah. Mainly empty dining room and waited over 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Our food took forever and was disappointing. Our waitress disappeared after our food came out. We finished our meals and waited over 20 minutes until another waitress asked if we needed anything. Our waitress never bothered to come back.

03/06/17: The food was on point however service was horrible... we came in around 7:30pm and there was only 2 tables currently in the bar and only 3 people at the bar. We came in and sat down at a table in the bar and waited. Meanwhile 2 more tables of two came in; mind you we have now been sitting for 10 minutes waiting to be greeted by a waitress.y husband notices the server go to the table that came in after us, gave them menus, and got their drink order, went back to the bar, and proceeded to finish her own meal. It took 15 minutes for her to even acknowledge us or give us menus mind you she now has taken the drink order and food order of the table who came in after us... very disappointed. I loved coming to Northern Trails especially now that I live out of state and only make it up about once a year; yet was extremely disappointed.

Two of us Had the walley, full of bones no flavor. Showed waitress she smiled and walked away. Baked potato Luke warm. Will not go back or recommend..

Went there tonight for their thanksgiving meal. Building very nice. Wait staff not so nice. Waitress decided to take a 20 min cig break. Turkey was dry and was their special. We usually tip 25-30% couldn’t do that tonight. Wasn’t even asked if we wanted pie. Just given bill. Will not go back.

Couldn't make a simple Frisco melt without thousand island dressing and afrado dinner with nice bite size pieces had to cut big chunks . Was never ask to replace the Frisco melt or give discount on the bill .. just got an I'm sorry and never returned until we asked for to go box . My worst experience ever and first time .. the place was not busy so the disappointment of service was very disappointing .. always like stopping in to eat on my travels . Hope the next time is better or that stop will end for me ..

I do not understand the negative comments from other reviewers! We have been coming to Northern Trails for years. The bartenders and servers are always friendly, attentive and courteous. When our family comes up to visit, they always want to go to "The Trails" for a meal. The portions are plentiful and you never leave hungry. Favorites are the Sleeping Cow salad (all the salads are great), jalapeño fries, hot beef sandwich and on and on... they have food and drink specials every day and at least three home made soups. The establishment has a dining room for quiet, family dining and a bar side for a more lively setting with several tv's for viewing.

We love this place!! Great food, service and drinks!! I always get the Reuben sandwich... I've never been disapointed!! Hubby gets their blackened burger or a wet burrito.. Loves them!! It was packed Friday night!.. Still got our food and drinks in a timely manner and with a smile. The people here are great!!

The loaves of bread...phenomenal. the risotto was on point..staff is very friendly even on the busy nights.

Service was great but the food was horrible. It said a generous amount of shrimp and I received little popcorn shrimp. I was a little upset and mentioned it to the staff and they said that's what you get. I won't go there again

Love this place, great food, drinks,service and entertainment

We have been coming here for years. Recently the quality of the food has not been the greatest. We haven't had any issues with our servers though. Hoping they get the food prep/quality figured out soon.
