Scarr's is always a stop to get a stellar slice. Keep it simple with a cheese slice or get a Sicilian slice. It just might be the best one you've ever had. Plus, they put so much love into the flour they use to make their dough. And it's a standout. Their pandemic setup is simple and effective for eating a slice on the go.
This place has shown me over the last year or so how consistent it is.
I can go there at 12PM, 5PM or 11PM and the flavor will always be the same.
They mill their own flour, and they source their own cheese. The quality of the food enhances the flavor of the slices.
Whether you get a plain slice or a pepperoni of the regular or square kind, you won’t be disappointed.
The dough is crunchy and light
And the sauce is ALWAYS on point
The cheese is not oily at all and so is the pepperoni
The place is always clean, the staff is overall friendly
It’s worth the wait when there’s a line and they’re fast at serving
Can’t recommend this enough
no frills place but the service is better than that of a fine dining establishment. the woman who took our order around 1230pm-1pm on Saturday was incredibly patient and kind, especially given the line.
we appreciate them being open during the pandemic — thank you!
the pizza is just as good, the Sicilian’s crust is perfectly cooked!
five stars!
Extremely solid pizza joint. I got the cheese and the Sicilian pepperoni. The cheese was solid, but something about the Sicilian pepperoni was next level. I think it was the crispy outer dough mixed with the soft and warm inner dough. The ratio of sauce and cheese was perfect, and the pepperoni was fantastic. I honestly don’t remember the price per slice but with pizza this good, I can’t imagine that it was unreasonable. Definitely make a stop if you’re nearby - you won’t regret it!

love love love love LOVE love this place SO much. It's amazing pizza and prob the best I've had in NYC to date and I've eaten a lot of it. I mention this place to anyone that's visiting the area.
The best place to get pizza in NYC. No frills; just great. Consistently great!
Scarr's Pizza is a small pizzeria with old school vibes and some modern touches in terms of its approach to pizza and the menu. the pandemic really changed Scarr's from a small overcrowded pizzeria + hipster bar to a takeout and delivery pizza place only, right now. lines move fast during non-peak hours. many hipsters, locals, and out-of-towners have all lauded the pizza and it has got quite a bit of media buzz and social media glow since it opened. is the hype deserved? i'd say YES and NO.
the classic cheese slice is a very good to great slice. the cheese, sauce, and crust are on point. the slice is on the thin crust side. the crust has a nice amount of chew (softness) and crunchiness-- nice balance. the sauce has the right amount of salt and flavor--and is not sweet or sugary. the cheese is melty, gooey, and looks/tastes like moooooozzarella. and there's that very necessary thin layer of grease but the slice is not oily/messy. the plain cheese pizza by the slice is consistently one of the better ones in NYC.
however is the pizza worth waiting in line for 20-30 minutes? nope. if i ever see a super long line at Scarr's then i eat elsewhere. while the rest of the menu looks aight (square slices, sandwiches, salads, etc.), the mastery of the plain slice is where you should be getting your calories...everything else feels like detours from the main destination aka classic 'ZZA.
pizza is a fairly personal choice, so i don't buy into the idea of the BEST PIZZA IN NYC anymore. i do buy into the idea of pizza places that has me returning as a customer bc the product does not falter. as expected, the prices at Scarr's are creeping up since it's popularity has grown. now, a cheese slice is $3.80 + tip. one or two slices will sate most people's hunger unless you're starving. once a slice breaks the $4 barrier...just order a pie with friends.
though i miss indoor dining in nyc, the lack of indoor dining at Scarr's makes ordering easy and quick bc you don't have to squeeze inside. now, you just order at the door, pay, and wait. or you can order via Caviar for pickup or delivery. the people at the door are very nice and courteous as evidenced by customers not freaking out when the lines are long and the weather is being extra.
The restaurant looks like a bit like a hole in the wall and there was a wait, but the line was buzzing with excitement. We ordered two slices and they were definitely worth the wait, best pizza slice we've had in NYC. 10/10 recommend!
