Visited August 1997. Had the time of my life. Enjoy the well deserved retirement Rupert!!!
PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Rupert and Mae. Are fantastic people I wish they were still there.. it was a slice of broadcast history.
They are seriously the nicest people. The food was great too. The prices were almost baffling to me... they could charge way more than they do for what they serve and the reputation they have from the Letterman stuff. But my girlfriend and I had a really nice lunch for $25, including two sandwiches, a bag of chips, and two sodas. I wish I'd been in town long enough to try their breakfast sandwiches, which by the way appeared to be like two bucks each?
FANTASTIC egg and cheese sandwiches. It's in the details—the rolls they use are crisp yet soft—and they toast them on the griddle by default. The super friendly staff always asks if you want salt, pepper, ketchup instead of leaving you to disassemble the sandwich to put them on yourself later (as too many delis do). And, for a place in the heart of a tourist area, it's super reasonable. Has become a morning routine for me. A++++ Would buy again!
Delicious sandwich and nice people! Was so lovely talking to May, hopefully will be back soon.
Above all, they are super friendly! The food is great too and comes out fast.
Had a great breakfast and a nice chat with Rupert. Very tasty egg, bacon and cheese sandwich!!! Enjoy watching NYC walk by the deli window!!
They offer really delicious sandwiches. The lady is very nice and the prices are reasonable.
Great selection, sandwiches made fresh in a few minutes. There are a few seats inside but mostly take out. I had the schaffer and my husband the colbert. Fun names for the sanwhiches and veggie options too.
Just incredible! Super friendly service, place is packed with personality! I had the Letterman sandwich. Never thought a cold sandwich could be so good. And the price was just amazing.
Rupert was kind and allowed me to take a photo with him. I'm sure he gets tired of these requests, but he was very genuine and made us a fantastic lunch.
This deli in terms of quality is one of the best in the area. The sandwiches are made to order exactly as asked, there are plenty of side items or other grill items other than a sandwich. One of the best things about this place is the atmosphere, Rupert and his wife are absolutely wonderful and very funny. There are some tables to sit at inside, these guys will take care of you.
The prices are absolutely reasonable as well.
My wife and I loved our sandwiches! They are delicious. We went twice during our 4 day stay and have been wanting to go back ever since. Rubert is very kind and the staff are great. Customer service is wonderful.
Fond memories of this place. Rupert is a friendly fellow. Rupert and May have decided to retire and have put up the place for sale, so if you want to visit, do it now.
This restaurant is amazing! Rupert and his wife are so lovely and their food is on point! Thank you both for making truly delicious sandwiches and being so personable. If I'm ever in Manhattan again this will be the first place I go!
Rupert is friendly and offers fast service. He lets you take a selfie with him which I'm sure he heys tired of but he is genuine and fun to talk to. Food is good as well.
Talk about a great place. I was a fan of Rupert on late night. He talked to me for over 30 minutes and answered all my questions. Him and his wife were so nice. The plus was that the food was incredible. Highly recommend
The couple here is so kind! And the sandwiches are fantastic! Best deli in NYC, would 10/10 go here everyday if I lived closer :) Their generous ratio of bread, meat, veg, and condiments is perfect. I felt stuffed afterwards and very satisfied for hours!
