Gluten free food option in Grand Central Terminal
Hale and Hearty Soups offers many gluten free soups, salads, snacks, and entrees. I recently had the tomato basil soup for lunch. Really good!
Walked around Grand Central Station and came upon this restaurant along the way. I ordered a chicken soup with noodles. It was very delicious, but very hot so I had to let it cool down a bit. The soup was served with a piece of bread which was also delicious and some crackers. I would love to try some of their other offerings if I ever make it back to NYC.
With over thirty locations of Hale & Hearty Soups in Manhattan, it is easy to get a satisfying bowl of hot soup. At least three varieties of chilled soups like gazpacho are brought out for the summer months as well. I have sampled many of the soups and am partial to the tomato basil with rice and find the three lentil chili soup is hearty and quite filling. I also like that one is given not only crackers, but a choice of sourdough or whole grain bread with the soup. Even though the soups are wholesome and filling, I often pair it with a sandwich brought from home.
The Grand Central location of Hale & Hearty Soups is busy with the office crowds hankering for lunch.
Phenomenal Soups/Salads. Made two trips to Hale and Hearty on a recent NYC trip. Both times had their Thai chicken soup; delicious with lemon grass, coconut milk, corn, sweet potatoe. I bought a large container and also had a Thai chicken wrap made into a chopped salad. Loved it so much I had it two days in a row!
The wait staff was very helpful and accommodating. They will prepare your salad right in front of you, allowing you to choose from a vast array of fresh ingredients. While I was there, someone ordered a salad prepared with fresh avocado, which they removed from the skin on the spot. I wish we had Hale and Hearty here in Florida.
Decent salads at an affordable cost. There aren’t many places in Manhattan that you can find a sizable and filling salad without breaking the bank. I usually stop by hale and hearty for a quick salad on my way out of the city. Service is fair given the amount of traffic and the salads are sizable, tasty (depends on dressing), filling and affordable. The bread offered with my salad lacked in freshness. Overall it’s a good spot for a healthy lunch.
Sometime I feel a little guilty about buying soup from H&H but it's well worth it. I wish the portions were a little bigger, or the prices weren't so high, but I can't make these soups myself so I can't complain. You pay about $5 for a small soup and you're barely full. I always wait for the New England Clam Chowder, Beef Macaroni and Cheese, and Chicken and Corn Bisque. If I'm feeling rich and want to spoil myself, I'll get the Lobster Bisque.
Service is very prompt, soups are delicious and quality is consistent. Soup flavors rotate daily so you can eat here every day and get a different soup each time! I love the sourdough bread and sandwiches too.
Great soup, great customer service and reasonable prices for the area. Consider getting a combo with half a sandwich because the sandwiches are amazing. The balsamic chicken and avocado is to die for.
There's also plenty of seating since it's underground at Grand Central Terminal.
Tourist in NYC , Ordered the Shepard pie thinking it was a dish $10...but came as a blended soup. It was better than the actual dish , large bowl that was very filling had left overs. Came with two scoops of mashed potatoes on top .
This place is always has the perfect meal served when i order. They give you a whole meal that always satisfies my hunger all the time. They give you the choice of a soup and a sandwich, which could either be half or full depending on how hungry you actually are. But the best part about it is how healthy it is because i never feel sluggish after i eat there.

Yummy soups and a large list to choose from. I especially like their daily list which tends to be more seasonally appropriate. They get very busy during lunch hour but they move the line along nicely-- just know what you want ahead of time.
A solid home cooked meal vibe. As well it's a steal for the small budget family. You get a nice sized bowl (small is good enough) a piece of bread and crackers for about $5.00
On the hunt for soup and this was perfect! The employee had several recommendations and I would love to go back and try more! If you are going to grand central, note that it may be too crowded to find a seat!
I went for a late lunch and it was not very crowded. I could taste different soups before getting mine. I just got the soup but the salad bar looked appealing too.
