Dinner at The Simone is pleasantly akin to stepping back in time; the rather unassuming elegance of the townhouse dining room and courteous staff are a pleasure. Of course, the highlight is the menu. Hand-written, (which speaks to a commitment to care and relentless attention to detail) this is a righteous bonanza of strokes of cuisine nouvelle and a very, very confident hand. Tina had an authentic warmth which is next to impossible to reproduce if not heartfelt - she possesses it in bushels - and it shows.
Magical. So happy to have one of the most lovely experiences of dining back in the show! having dined on their opening weekend, i can only say how great it is to know that i can have again those wonderful moments of service, style, and cuisine. i adore the space! best of luck to all involved! i look forward to every meal that i will get to have in new york with you!
Wow, just Wow.. Delicious food, amazing service, and very reasonable. Between the 3 of us we had 6 different plates, and none disappointed. Wine list is excellent and not outrageously priced. We were treated like old friends, checked on regularly, and served wonderful food. A fantastic first experience, can't wait to come back.
This is a fantastic place to eat. Be sure to get a reservation. Tina and her husband own it. He is the Chef she runs the front of the house. Only 10 tables. Try to dress up a LOT please. Men will feel best with a coat and tie but if no tie you may not be the only one. Menu changes almost daily. Website says price fix but that is not true. All a la carte now. We started with 3 apps. All were fantastic. She had raviolis served in a large bowl. See photo. I had Cheese Souffle which was Guerryre and superb. I also had the onion tarte which was excellent. For dinner she had the lobster special. OMG was it divine. I had the rabbit and it was super. All dark meat and so delicious. 7 desserts were available. We had 3 but the super duper stand out was the coconut cake. About half way through dinner we noticed a very sharply dressed gentleman eating alone so I went over and asked him to join us for dessert. He did and we had a lovely conversation for about an hour. Turns out he lives a few houses down for this UES location and goes there quite often. He is a retired lawyer known to many from one of the largest firms in NYC but we will not post his photo as we did not get his permission. Suffice it to say he gave us a lot of background on this place and it was all good. Tina is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to wine and the Chef is among New York's elite. This is a fun place that is like eating in a secret high end family home with deluxe chef. If you can get a table it is well worth it. PLEASE DRESS UP. Check out all of our reviews. The Simone is a secluded and sophisticated little UES gem. The atmosphere is distinguished and welcoming. The staff goes above and beyond to make the dining experience enjoyable. The menu is well planned. I also liked that there is a dress code which set the tone for an elegant dinner.
What an absolutely splendid dining experience. My wife and I went for our 10th anniversary because we wanted delicious food, well priced interesting wine, and great service. We got all that and so much more. Food was phenomenal: perfectly cooked venison and rabbit in different preparations, wonderful terrine, and fantastic sweetbreads. Varied, serious, well priced wine list. We had a bottle of 2005 vouvray and unexpectedly a 2011 rioja. Wife owner poured us some other interesting wines and chef husband owner talked with us for 10 minutes. Comped some dishes. This is a 12-table family run place with personable and attentive servers. Go for a special occasion and you too might find yourself closing it down with the delightful staff after an exceptional evening.
Wonderful evening dining with family in a beautiful quaint Simone. Everything from the moment we entered was exceptional. Tina greeted us and we were seated promptly. The service was extraordinary and the food was superb. I had duck, other patrons had lobster. Exquisite presentation. Appetizers were to die for! Please leave room for dessert because they are homemade. Very enjoyable evening a must visit for everyone.
Uhh... Chef and Wife have one of the best restaurants in NYC. Don't need to go into super detail but the food is absolutely incredible and matched up with a fantastic beverage program. If you like classic French cuisine and fantastic food, try and get a reservation. You'll need to call most likely.
The Simone is hands down one of the best restaurants in the city. The food is exquisite, the chef's wife, who runs the front of house, is an INCREDIBLE somelier (seriously, don't order your own drinks, ask for pairings with your meal), and the service feels simultaneously luxurious but also warm and personal. Try the blue cheese souffle and get the chocolate pots de creme for dessert - you'll thank me.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The food was superb, but it was the service that made the evening so special. There was nothing that was wanted that was not anticipated by the wait staff or by Tina.
We’ve wanted to go to The Simone since one of our friends read a wonderful review. The restaurant is no more than a 5 minute walk from where we live. Being that Covid has precluded our visiting some of our friends who are owners of restaurants we love it’s hard to even dream of going to a new one that has limited seating. So yesterday we had dear friends coming to have dinner and instead of making dinner we decided to call The Simone and we’re glad we did. We listened to Tina recite the menu and before she got to the desert part we said this is what we’re doing. Both my friend and I called Tina and we placed our orders. When they went to pick dinner up they were warmly greeted with lovely glasses of wine that were not only refreshing but quite good!
When they arrived we all emptied the bags and spread out the offerings in front of us. I didn’t take pictures like I normally do because I didn’t feel like I would do the dishes the justice they deserved.
We had tuna tartare, pork trotter, Brussel sprouts, sweet breads, and a very refreshing mixed salad. All were expertly prepared and were delicious. I’m not sure if the bread was homemade or not but it was delicious.
For entrees we had the flounder and pheasant 2 of each, both wonderfully presented and delicious. The deserts which were selected by our friends while at the restaurant were a wonderful way to end our meal. We scored a reservation at the one outdoor table for next month which we are all Looking forward too. Chip and Tina very well done!!
This is an awesome place. The food is great. The duck and striped bass that we ordered were freshly prepared with obviously great attention to details. The sauces were tasty and unique. The french bread was served warm. The entire atmosphere is warm and very friendly. Highly recommend.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in my 26 years of life. The service was beyond excellent! The food and wine pairings are out of this world. If I was making bank I'd stop by monthly to treat the missus. Unfortunately I am not making bank and I have no missus so I will stick with visiting for special celebrations that I'm invited to.
This restaurant was truly an experience. The halibut special was to die for, as well as the savory tarte appetizer. Highly recommend doing the wine pairing. While the food was incredible, the best part was personalized service and attention paid to each guest. Looking forward to coming back!
If you are going to splurge, this is the place to do it. Cute small family owned and operated. Service could not have been better. We both got fish and it was cooked perfectly. Apps and entrees were delish. Only reason I am giving it a 4 star (wish I could do between 4 and 5) is because my app and entree both weren’t served super hot. Overall hugely recommend. You won’t be disappointed. Just know it’s 200+ for a couple and French style, so not huge portions. But if willing to spend a little, good place to do it. A bit noisy. But not a big deal.
The Simone is a wonderful elegant restaurant offering French cuisine. Every detail of the restaurant is lovingly decorated, down to the handwritten menu. The food is delicious and visually stunning food. A feast for the eyes and the stomach. The wine list is extraordinary to say the least. But best of all, one of the owners is a sommelier, so we just trusted her judgement and she was spot on with her wine recommendations for us. We had a very lovely dinner and will be back.
The food is really spectacular. I was also very impressed by the deserts. Love the fact that there is no music and so you can talk to your friends. The service is good and friendly. Only negative part was my wine experience. The wine list organisation is strange and not convenient. They did not have the Bordeaux Saint-Joseph I wanted. The waitress try to sell me a shyrah instead from I don't know where (probably Northern Rhône Valley), insisting it was the same. For the same price: $75. Bordeaux and Syrah are very different. And trying to sell one for the other was not very professional. But again, the food is amazing.
Superlatives rain upon The Simone with no restraint, but every wonderful accolade is deserved. The Simone is one of New York's finest restaurants, with an intimate graciousness placing The Simone in a special category amongst the thousand good restaurants in NYC.
Located on a charming street on the Upper East Side, patrons are greeted with warmth and charm as they enter the elegant townhouse.
Simple in design, The Simone's sophistication is immediately noticeable with crisp linens and well spaced tables, with sound levels enhancing conversation.
Service is a bit formal, my one critical note, but the kitchen deserves this formality even though it appears discordant. Menu items are eclectic and described with aplomb, if difficult to read in cursive. However, once the dishes arrive, there's no need to decipher the writing, because your taste buds take over and all a diner can exclaim is "delicious!" My Alsatian tarte, with onion, Gruyere, and a drizzle of Balsamic, forced me to give everyone a taste, and we oohed and aahed. Tuna Tartare was fresh, light and refreshing. Yet, the appetizers were just the warm up to the crescendo, as the entrees were sublime. My roasted chicken, so simple, but so delicious, was eaten slowly as to savor every bite. Red Snapper was indescribably delicious. Everything was wonderful. The chef is also a pastry chef, and his tarts are works of art.
Sometimes hyperbole is not hyperbole. The Simone deserves it. Both the chef and his engaging wife greet each table, welcoming you into their restaurant, which by the end of the evening seems more like their dining room than their business. There is no hip or hype at The Simone. This is just fine dining and Michelin starred/James Beard Award cooking, whether or not The Simone owns a star or a nomination. The Simone was equal to the award winning restaurants we ate at in Paris. That is my highest compliment, being the Francophile I am. Prices are rather reasonable for this level of dining. Bravo!
I'm almost embarrassed that I've just learned about The Simone. It's five blocks from my home, and I pass it regularly.
In a sea of mediocre $200 NYC meals, The Simone is a shimmering island. Yes, dinner and drinks here is closer to $250, but relatively speaking, The Simone is a genuine bargain.
That out of the way, last evening we had the great pleasure of dining here, and everything was ... pretty much perfect. We spent considerable time speaking with one of the owners throughout our meal, and it was apparent that everything runs as it does at The Simone by design. From classic service (serve from the left, clear from the right ... when did you last see THAT?) to the absolute invisibility of water and wine glasses always being refilled and napkins refolded. they're doing everything right at The Simone. Everything.
And the food ... well, let's just say that our party of four sampled and shared a wide variety of things and everybody loved everything; and we're kind of an eclectic crew of palettes; that's no small feat.
Truly wonderful. If you can get a table, go.
Upon your arrival, you are greeted with class. The service from the front door to your seat, sets high standards, for first class service. The staff are the "Best," and the food is "AWESOME." This is my fourth time eating here. Each trip here, brings a new experience. A must try for those who enjoy world class service and enjoyable food, prepared with a personal touch. Five Stars!!!
Was looking for a special place to take my lady, and we had decided on French. I needed some place near our hotel or near Radio City where we were seeing a show, and out of the limited options, this looked like the best. Unfortunately, when I called at the end of November for a reservation, their outgoing message said they were booked for the entire month of December. Well, I knew I chose right at that point, but what to do? I left a message hoping there would be a cancellation, and they called me the next day to tell me they could squeeze me in at 5:45 for a pre-theater dinner (meaning they knew we'd be out in an hour or so). Score!
This is a very small restaurant - only a handful of tables. Very minimalist decorations, but extremely classy and a dress code that if they don't need to enforce, because the patrons know better. Our waitress knew the menu inside and out - i was thoroughly impressed with the breadth of her knowledge. She was extremely helpful in making our choices as we were both a bit stuck between a couple of items.
When it's all said and done, dinner for 2 costs $250 which, by my measure, is out of scale with the experience which should cost $175.....i've never started a review this way before.
Let me break this down:
The space is lovely BUT noise reverberates and we were between two very noisy tables and that was a distraction.
Staff is SENSATIONAL. The woman who looked after us did just that. She did everything right.......and Tina stopped by at the appropriate time to chat with us.....not to ask "is everything ok".
Menu is interesting and the souffle appetizer and tart appetizer were terrific.
I had the "special" which was salmon. Our server discussed with me how I wanted it cooked and I said "a little undercooked"......it was half the size of salmon pretty much anywhere else and came out "overcooked". I didn't make a fuss as I didn't want to slow the process. One of our friends ordered lamb chops and was disappointed as there were two chops.....long on bones, short on lamb.
We've been here 3 times in the almost 5 years The Simone has been open. First time we loved it but it was so busy we couldn't get a reservation.....so we stopped trying. Second time we learned that during the summer there is no problem getting a reservation. This time I learned that I don't think I want to go again.
Tina has built a business with a personal touch. She has trained her staff beautifully and my sense is that this is a successful restaurant. Good for her.
