Located in the Theater District, Barbetta is the oldest Italian restaurant in New York City. This historic landmark still owned by the family that founded it back in 1906. Here, they stir clear of the rustic Italian look that’s typical of many Italian restaurants, opting for a grand, elegant dining room complete with Piemontese antiques and a chandelier.

I ordered the Risotto alla Piemontese with wild porcini mushrooms ($21) and paired it with a Piemonte Chardonnay. This dish has been served at Barbetta since its founding in 1906. The risotto was well prepared and had an earthiness from the porcini. While John aka “Mr I can’t stand mushrooms” thought the mushrooms added an unappetizing color to my risotto, I thought the color and flavor of mushrooms throughout the dish was delightful. Rich and earthy without being overwhelming. I enjoyed every bite. Sigh, I really need to take a trip to Italy!

Great Service. The courtyard atmosphere was perfect for summer dining before a show. The pre-theater 4 course menu was a nice touch with a good array of food. Would definitely return! Eduardo was personable, authentic, and knowledgeable. Must try the peaches in champagne sauce for dessert! Pricy, but worth it for special occasions.

If You Like Great Italian Food .... This is not for someone for someone who likes to the grab and stuff your face. It is an Elegant Restaurant but with a Restful, Relaxed and Friendly Atmosphere.
I have Lived in Italy and I can say with Confidence that this is a restaurant that even the most critical but honest people would have to agree is superior in every detail. I am very thankful for such a superior eating experience stills exists today.

Barbetta. It's one of the oldest eateries in Manhattan and for good reason: Great Italian food and real atmosphere. Try finding another spot on Restaurant Row that offers not only a spacious dining room, but courtyard seating as well.

Pasta is always al-dente. Great, fresh marinara sauce. Service from a wait staff who know their target market.

Dinner at Barbetta's. Excellent food but pricey. Ambiance was nice although service was a bit "huffy".

We tried this place while we were visiting New York for the holidays and I must say the food was a little disappointing. Other diners ranged from senior couples to family parties with children. I would not recommend this restaurant to others as there are a million more in the city more worth it.

I photographed Tara and Mark's beautiful wedding here during the summer. I highly recommend it! The atmosphere and food was amazing! They had their ceremony upstairs and had a private dining room in the restaurant for their reception.

This place serves truly amazing pastas! It was one of the two recommendations we received from our Italian friend. Initially, we were hesitant due to the negative reviews on yelp, but we were glad we decided to check it out. We ordered two prefixes with roasted peppers, ragu penne, roasted rabbit, and braised beef. While the beef was just ok, everything else was delicious. The true highlight of our meal was the gnocchi in cream sauce, which was super light and fluffy. Absolutely delightful. I could never understand why people claimed that the food is bad here, but I can emphasize with the confusion around their prefix and ala carte menu. Particularly during weekend dinners, it is not possible to order from the ala carte menu until 8:30pm, and guests are limited to choosing the three-course prefixed options.

Very lovely place with the elegant and theatre alike atmosphere of old restaurant. My rabbit was great, but a bit too salty for my liking. The chocolate mousse was absolutely delightful and just perfect! Cappuccino had the airy and cloudy texture, that was amazing. Service was excellent. We’ve been granted a complimentary dessert wine which was such a great pairing for my chocolate mousse. Good selection of wines overall as well. I would definitely recommend this place for the special occasions.

Eating here was one of the highlights of our trip. World class service and fantastic food. The chocolate mouse was ridiculously good. Eduardo and the team looked after us and made sure to manage our time. If you’re looking for a dinner place in the city - look no further.

Food is alright, not great, not bad. However, the backyard in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen makes it a whole experience.

This was the surprise hit of our NYC trip! Wanted Italian but this isn't your pasta and park kind of place. The service is old school and impeccable. We did the pre theater menu and couldn't have been more pleased. I am still dreaming about the beautiful mozzarella on the starter and I would go back for the crab entree alone. Definitely a gem!

A theater district classic - stopped in for an early dinner after seeing Tina. It was restaurant week and we chose off of the limited fixed price menu for $39 and were very happy. Our food was good, the service was attentive, the red and white wine offered were both very good ($12/glass) and our meals were tasty too. No negatives, just didn't wow us enough for 5 stars. Recommend

Went during restaurant week and took advantage of the 3 course meal with an appetizer, entree and dessert. Service was exceptional, I just didn’t click with the food altogether. Decor and cleanliness was great. Accommodated everything we asked for. 5 star service and kindness. I guess I’m just picky with my Italian food. Would try this place again to see how other dishes are.

Second time dining here. This time it was after a matinee Broadway show, so it was not super crowded. Love the ambiance of this vintage style authentic NYC restaurant just steps from the theatres. Coat check at the front of the restaurant & a full bar as well. Had the restaurant week special & all of the food was quite tasty. The pasta was cooked very al dente however the sauce was just delicious! Ordered Vodka Stingers & if I could handle my liquor better, I would have ordered two more! Yum! Highly recommend. The wait staff was attentive & multiple staff members checked on how we were doing. They also sang happy birthday to my friend, much to his chagrin & much to my great pleasure. "Another Vodka Stinger!"

A friendly and warm place with beautifully decorated atmosphere. Food was decent and they do not season the dishes too heavily which I personally preferred. Dessert was very sweet and rich though for my liking. I would go back to this place - garden seating looked so beautiful but we sat inside due to hot weather.

Came here before going to a show. Service was fast, but didn’t feel rushed. They have a pre fixe for before show times and the food was absolutely phenomenal. The staff were attentive and friendly. Definitely a must if in the city!

We had a lovely and special time at Barbetta. Our family went there at noon prior to making our show. Having read about the history of the restaurant on the website, we very much looked forward to seeing it. The charming restaurant is located in an old brownstone right in the theatre district and with the decor and accolades, you could sense the historical significance of the restaurant. We had a private corner table, where we could admire the ambience of the restaurant. It was nice and quiet , so we could have nice conversation. Service was excellent and the all the staff was very attentive, particularly helpful in keeping us on schedule to make our show. The food was excellent. We had a couple of vegetarians, so we were pleasantly surprised by the number of choices. The menu offered great variety. As listed in several reviews, the gnocchi gorgonzola was a favorite. Other dishes we highly recommend, capriese salad, mushroom salad, scallops, rabbit, swordfish, risotto porcini, pesto linguini. The deserts(pana cotta, creme brule, chestnut cake, zabaglione, chocolate mousse), were amazing and I would have loved to have lingered another 30 minutes enjoying them. Since it was Dec, we couldn't experience the outdoor patio, so I look forward to coming back.
