Le grainne cafe provide yoy wide range of French food . service is not so good I can say slow but food here is good and wine collection superb.. ambiance excellent....
Visiting NYC and stopped here for lunch by chance... We enjoyed a lovely meal of wild mushroom and gruyere crepes and salmon in a delicate wine/butter sauce. The service was quite slow, but we didn't have any time constraints. Food is fresh and clearly made to order. The chocolate mousse topped with fresh strawberries was the perfect ending of our experience.
Well worth the walk!. We went to Le Grainne for breakfast during a recent trip to New York, and it was the loveliest dining experience! Originally we were worried about having to wait a while, as the restaurant was quite busy, but that was not the case. Staff were quick and attentive, we had about 3 different people looking after our table, topping up waters, bringing drinks, food, and taking our order. It's not a huge place, but as far as small cafe standards go, there is quite a lot of seating available. It has that cozy cafe vibe, tables are close together, music is soft and in the background, decorations and chalkboard wine lists ooze that French cafe feel.
There were many great choices on the menu, I had an Omelette, and my friend had the French toast. My omelette was amazing, it was light and fluffy and cheesy and had the perfect ratio of egg-to-vegetable per bite. It came with homefries and a salad, and it was a refreshing change to have with my omelette. My friend loved her french toast, it was a very sizable portion, she loved the cinnamon and maple syrup and enjoyed the pairing of fruit salad, homefries and ham.
We also partook of some delicious Iced Lattes, which offered us the perfect blend of caffeine and cool heat-wave quenching relief. They are served traditionally, milk and ice topped with espresso so that it slowly starts to sink in and blend. Looks beautiful and, working in a Cafe as a Barista myself, it's my favourite way of having an iced latte!
We really enjoyed our experience at Le Grainne, would have loved to have made a second trip during our visit, but it just wasn't possible on our five day timeline. I highly recommend you check out Le Grainne!
Cute, cozy, and comfortable. Oh this place! everything on the menu i'm sure is the best, and all the food has great presentation. I love their glass water canteens, and the atmosphere is always that of a Sunday morning brunch even when it's a busy Tuesday afternoon at 4. Honestly really, really good. I;m actually on my over there right now!
So quaint. We read good reviews for le grainne and decided to try it. The staff was so sweet, accomadating our 15 month old daughter, and the food was amazing! I got a special and my husband got an omelet. The latte was amazing as well! Will go back again!
Very good. Amazing food, and the best cafe au lait !!
Om-nom-nom. I love Le Grainne Cafe! Best place ever for breakfast and their cappuccinos are to die for! Love!
Wow! The crepes are to die for. The crème brûlée was parfait as the French say. If you're in the neighborhood head straight here.
Great for breakfast and lunch. Love their French Toast and crepes!
Delicious. Friendly staff, hip euro vibe, delicious food with nice presentation. A nice surprise especially for the low price.
Better than in France! One of the few places in Manhattan where you can spend time, eating wonderful French inspired food, drinking excellent coffee, being part of an interesting pool of guests from the neighborhood, without having to pay and leave 1 Minute after you drank your last cup. I love this place!
Neighborhood Gem!. I'm so fortunate to have Le Grainne right around the corner from me. If only I were one of the neighborhood's many artists or writers, who often take a leisurely breakfast there during the week!
The tea and coffee are both excellent (and well-portioned), and the crepes are delectable, whether you opt for something sweet, or a savory breakfast of ham, egg, and cheese (with greens and a sprig of herbs on the side always). Recently the menu has been branching out into more complex fare, but as my go-to brunch place, I've usually felt no need to look far beyond the excellent crepes and sandwiches.
The atmosphere is what really makes this place a gem though -- from the old wooden chairs and benches, to the pressed-tin walls and antique decor, it's like a low-key parisian bistro transplanted to Chelsea.
Weekends can be a bit of a madhouse for brunch, but the servers usually handle it all in good humor. Definitely a fantastic place to go for a relaxing breakfast, brunch, or a candle-lit dinner!
Tonight we started with the Escargot en Demi-Douzaine and used their delicious fresh baked bread to sop up the garlic butter. At this point I realized that a glass of rose would be the perfect accompaniment to this lovely springtime evening.
Brunch is a New York-y thing to do, and finding your neighborhood's best brunch is almost a right of passage for those new to an area. Lucky for me, I had the inside scoop from a friend already living in Chelsea, and so finding the best brunch nearby was easy as pie. The winner? La Grainne, a no-pretense French cafe with some of the most flavorful food as I've had in Manhattan. Located on the corner of 21st and 9th Avenue, La Grainne is in the heart of Chelsea - and you can tell that most of its clientele are locals that just keep coming back. After treating myself to a few meals here, with friends, family and just by myself, I can certainly see why it's so loved; La Grainne is a total gem! It doesn't have a name that pops up in Grubstreet or Eater or the New York Times as a 'hotspot' for weekend brunches, and that's part of the charm. There's no fuss, no muss here with a staff that is both friendly and wildly efficient, a rustic cobbled-together decor, and a menu of crowd-pleasers. Th
I've loved the exterior structure and long life of the building housing the cafe, built in 1831-1832. Be sure to read the plaque and date marker on the S side of the building. I've admired it for many years but was always hurriedly going somewhere. Finally, I had time to eat here, had a great breakfast here with my wife. Enjoyed Le Omellette and a Mocha. Highly recommend.
This is a lovely little and sweet cafe. A little brasserie with a heart. Very authentically French with wonderful crepes, both savory and sweet, omelets and more. Close to the high line.
Came here around 10:30am on a Saturday and didn’t have to wait to get seated. The vibe of the place was casual Parisian cafe and the decor was very fitting. We tried the crepes with goat cheese and leek and I highly recommend them. We also got the baguette to share, which was also amazing!
When I lived in NYC this was my go to place for brunch on the weekends or after an all nighter shift at the hospital. So, now that I’m no longer live there. Had to pop in for breakfast my first stop back. Chef (J) was on point and the food was amazing per usual.
Server could have been a little bit more pleasant😏
However, if you're ever in the area go and enjoy so fresh delicious food and a nice big latte.
An excellent brunch choice. The service was little spotty (maybe they were just too busy) but the servers were nice. We sat outside in the parking space on the street. As much as I love outdoor seating, I’m still not sure I like sitting in the street. Great neighborhood vibe, though. The food is good enough!
Outdoor dining they (my friends) said, it would be great they said. So we did. And the weather was conducive for outdoor dining on a perfect Sunday autumn afternoon. Unfortunately our Sunday brunch was marred by one issue – the potent aroma of urine that wafted across our table every now and then was enough to spoil an otherwise enjoyable meal. Jokes aside, what would you expect from a 9th Ave Chelsea restaurant with limited indoor seating. With regards to food, we ordered:
Nutella Banana Crepe - was delicious, you can’t go wrong with crepes sucres for brunch
Croque Madame - bread was cut too thick and the salad greens were slightly old
Spaghetti Bolognaise - wasn’t very authentic, but that’s fine for a French Bistro; the positive is that it was a very comforting, delicious dish
Escargot - was gloriously buttery and rich, and the server was happy to throw in extra slices of bread to soak up all that goodness
Jambon Beurre (Ham and Butter on a baguette) - was simple, well execute, just as you would find at a Parisian cafe
Overall, a positive experience - but would aim to be seated either indoors or at an outdoor table against the storefront window next time.
This sweet spot was the highlight of a Chelsea birthday getaway. The city, and Chelsea in particular, offers many splendors that will steal your heart, but Le Grainne Cafe is that perfect mixture of “quaint” and “exceptional.” The perfect spot for a Sunday breakfast, this cozy café will treat you to a perfectly crispy croque madame and the best French onion soup out of France itself that you will be able to find. The cherry on top of my experience was the manager, Danielle, who was inviting when I called in for a last minute reservation, and greeted my husband and I like family when we arrived. If the well-made culinary selections don’t convince you to book a reservation immediately, then at least do yourself a favor and make a reservation simply for the customer service that Danielle and her incredible team provide. And don’t pass up on the French onion soup, even if you think your other dishes will suffice.
Lovely atmosphere and great staff! Came to get breakfast with my son and had an amazing time:) Food was a generous portion and tasted so good! French toast whoa firee.
Jhon our server was great, so welcoming and warm love always a good service❣️Big yes we’ll come back soon! 10/10
This cafe is a creperie in disguise. If you like skinny pancakes served in a European setting with European style, look no further. The place feels like a Parisian cafe to a point, but it won't disappoint those looking for a sweet treat as well as those in search for a more savory affair. From the outdoor seating to the indoor ambiance the place is inviting, casual and warm. The service is friendly and the food tasty and wonderfully presented.
Little hole in the wall in Chelsea but, oh, so good. I had a warm lamb sausage sandwich on the best bread ever. Other options, from bread with butter and jam, to pastries, to other sandwiches, all met with approval.
I only wish we lived nearby so that we had an excuse for stopping here again!
Wonderful French cafe on 9th Avenue in Chelsea. Beautiful building and great outdoor seating. I love the saucisson beurre sandwich and the bowl of cafe au lait. Great outdoor seating and service too.
I am currently on a jag with French cafes and Grainne Café helped quench my hunger. It really has a cafe feel and is right in the middle of Chelsea. The food hits the spot. I ordered the homemade sausage and enjoyed every bite. And the bread so delish. It has outside seating which can get hot on a summer day. The inside feels somewhat worn but overall I enjoyed my visit.
A favorite. I am a regular. Le Grainne never disappoints. A go-to favorite is the spinach and goat cheese quiche, which comes with lovely greens, and I always order a big bowl of cafe au lait. They surprised me this week with some very (bear-y!) special latte art, it’s like they knew I was having a rough day and wanted to put a bigger smile on my face. :) The staff is wonderful. Bonus: this place is located in a very special historic building which adds to its authentic charm.
Has long been my favorite spot for brunch and lunch. Just had a nice calm dinner here on a Saturday night. Amazing food as always (had the mussels). Sat inside. Fun older crowd sitting around me, talking about anything and everything. Good service. Has outdoor space but better for groups <5.
Cute atmosphere and the food was simple and delicious. The crepe was huge and I had enough that I will be able to take it for lunch on Monday. The chocolate croissant was also the perfect way to end the meal.
Additionally, the manager/owner allowed an unhoused individual to sit in the outdoor seating section to eat their meal (that they didn’t purchase at the restaurant) and brought even brought them ice water. I was always planning to come back but after seeing how compassionate the owner was I will definitely be back to support this business. I can’t recommend this business any more!
Solid French brunch. Savory crepe (chose a build-your-own) hit the spot.
My fiancée’s egg white omelette was too oily / buttery, but the server graciously swapped out her food for some poached eggs and shredded chicken that she enjoyed.
4/5 only because so many other good restaurants raise the bar, but a good neighborhood spot and great service.
Such a beautiful little spot in Chelsea. I grabbed a late breakfast here and I’m not sure if it was the rainy weather, or the food, or the beautiful tricycle with flowers in the basket parked out front, or simply the company I had...but my experience was one to remember. Such a romantic French cafe and the food was undoubtedly French in every way. The French toast was fantastic, the citrus on the plate really adds to the dish. We also split a Croque Madame which was equally as delicious.
Highly recommended!
