My boyfriend and I just ate here last night for Valentines day and it was amazing. The ambiance was classic, from the music and artwork to the staff. The service was impeccable and the food was incredible. It made me feel like I was back home in my mother's kitchen. I seriously recommend this spot to anyone and everyone.
I started going when I moved onto MacDougal St. Fast forward 20 years and it’s my kids favorite place. The staff is attentive & helpful and the food is so, so good. You don’t last 100 years without doing it better than the rest.
This old world restaurant a must .. I did enjoy the atmosphere.. cozy yet lively type of crowd..
Service was interesting... older staff who have definitely been there for a long time have that old world nyc Italian attitude yet were nice in there own way .. just don’t take it to heart once you laugh things go with out a problem..
Food I had the chicken Marsala my other had eggplant parmigiana.. to me the Marsala was on point.. the red sauce was a little on the sweet side but was happy to know it’s made in house .. trust me this Italian knows his sauces .. we ordered a side of meatballs to give the true test of the chef there .. they are definitely not store bought.. to me they were a little to much basil in them..
I will go back here with out any doubt in my mind !
My husband and I happened upon this place after leaving another restaurant in the area for seating in an area where my husband was bumped into 4 times before he got a chance to sit. Walked down the street a little bit and found Montes. We did not have a reservation but the found is a table. It was crowded for sure bit we had room to move. Since it was just the two of us it took a while to get served, partially due to a party of 8 that was sitting nearby and apparently regulars. Once our order was taken the service was good, we shared the mozzarella en carrozza which was very good. The bread they brought to the table was hard as a rock and not the same as we saw at other tables, maybe reservations get fresher bread? I had the veal Marsala it was tender and flavorful. My husband enjoyed his rigatoni bolognese. For desert he had the cheesecake and I had the tiramisu both were good but not the best we’ve had. The staff was friendly. I would go again but with reservations.

The staff was great, and the owner was certain a value. Very cozy and very italian environment. Great italian food. Also loved the decoration.
Enjoyed the piccata, masala and parmigiana. Classic done very well. Staff was attentive and Franco made the night great. Great value.
The veal piccata was so good. I wanted to lick the plate clean (but I was in public).
Great Red Gravy. We were looking for a great red sauce Italian place in the village, and the charm of the spot along with the claim about the age drew us in.
Such a great variety made choosing hard, and in the end the food was amazing. We had a large hearty portion of lasagne that was very well balanced in flavor. The veal picatta was very tender with a perfectly delicious lemon sauce. Both dishes were simply presented.
There were were a couple of old school staff members in the dining room that were from Italy. One was having a lenghty conversation with a table in Italian. It really added to Monte's quiet charm. Highly recommended for an old school experience.
Great food and service for a palatable price. First visit and staff went beyond make us feel like we were family. Would highly recommend Monte's for dining.
Old school classics, can't go wrong. I'm a fan of this old school italian restaurant. artichokes are outrageously good (the kind you want to dip all your bread in to soak up every last bit of flavor), the chicken melts in your mouth and the home made gnocchi will leave you wanting more, even when you are full! the wait staff is great. old school new york pros. if you want a taste of new york at its best, monte's is your place.
They served homemade style Italian cuisine in reasonable prices. Almost waiters are old as my old old uncle and they are really nice. On this honeymoon trip in the US, it was one of the best places for my wife and me from west to east.
Wonderful staff and atmosphere. Everyone so attentive. The zucchini blossom was heavenly. Everyone at our table had a great time. Will definitely go back.
A quaint family run Italian restaurant in east village with homemade pasta with excellent deserts with a variety of authentic Italian classics. A hidden gem with reasonable prices.
This place is exactly what I was looking for! Old school red sauce restaurant with incredible food and vibes. Sat at the bar, had a negroni before ordering then had the clams in red sauce, Bolognese and a glass of red wine, and some tiramisu. Can't get Italian food anywhere near this good in Indiana! If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and get some Monte's!
Went there Sunday night, it was packed but luckily we found a table without reservations.

Also owner is Italian & it gives you sense of home cooking 🧑🍳

An old school trattoria serving the traditional Italian dishes. The dishes are not family size but individual servings. The staff are friendly and attentive, the restaurant is clean and the food is delicious.
I stumbled across this gem a couple of weeks ago after a show at the Comedy Cellar. I asked the waiter, Daniel, for his recommendation and he suggested the beef short rib with the handmade gnocchi.
One of the best meals of my life. The other server, Alyssa, was also lovely, and the atmosphere was kind, cosy, and vibrant. Pretty much the experience you most hope to have when you visit NYC.
Incredible food, lovely place, and lovely people. Can't recommend highly enough.

I was wandering Soho looking for a place to eat and noticed this restaurant walking by. It was very empty when I walked in and I was seated at a small table by the bar. To start off, the restaurant itself is quaint and easy on the eyes. The music was more than perfect in regard to volume. It was truly like a movie set! There was an extensive menu of salads, soups, chickens, and pasta dishes. The setting was very traditional and as another used non-pretentious! I ordered the Stracciatella soup and a Filet of Sole (pictured). The bread was just OK and not warm. But the bread had to be the weakest link of the evening… the soup came out very warm and in a nicely generous sized bowl. The server must have noticed I wasn’t too overwhelmed with the dish and offered some cheese which made it one of the best soups I’ve had! I even thought about getting one to-go for my mother. The filet was present gorgeously and had been cooked with precision. Not too much sauce and just enough spice. The vegetables of carrots and broccoli weren’t noteworthy, although the potatoes were really addictive and spicy. After eating my dish whole, I ordered the Zabaglione for dessert. I was not too sure what to think on the cream of the dish, but the strawberries were freshly cut which I really did admire. The bathroom was very very clean and the staff were very friendly during the entire course. This business really is on no vanity… just there to give good service and food. Excellent job!
My family has been going here since the 50's and it's a staple for old school NY Italian food. We had the cold antipasti, chicken parm, veal parm, lasagna, and cannelloni. The chicken and veal parm were delicious and both served with side of pasta. The cannelloni was also great, stuffed with a cheese and spinach filling with the meat sauce on top. The lasagna was also great. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the zabaglione. Great time as always.
Omg. Not sure if it’s because I rarely eat Italian food or of this place is just heaven on earth, but you can taste the TLC that goes into preparing the magnificent food at this quaint upscale place in the heart of Greenwich Village. We visited on a recent food tour and sampled the pasta bolognese. Wow. What a difference from store-bought pasta. Melted in our mouths. An explosion of flavor in every bite. Definitely would come here for a meal on a future visit. Momma Mia!
