Invited to dinner by a family member staying in a apt on 21st Street.

Momoya must be the in place as the tiny lobby was packed out to the street. Sister-in-law known there so we were seated right away. (Evil stares from the huddled masses)

Food was good. Classic Japanese; Sashimi, Sushi, but also other dishes. Had very nice beet salad. One of us had magret de canard. Excellent service. BUT noise level quite high which makes it hard to have a conversation.

Advice: go for lunch. Skip Momoya for dinner!

We have been here several times. It is usually crowded and cannot make reservation for small parties. However, service is fast , good and line goes fast. Quality of sushi and rolls is super. Try the rice-crispy rolls

Some restaurants just feel have the feel of a favorite neighborhood spot and Momoya is one of them. The window lined corner space has a clean, modern decor with blond wood accented walls and dark wood tables and floors. The menu features classic Japanese dishes and sushi. I had heard good things about this restaurant before dining here but mostly I wanted to try their Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, the signature roll with spicy tuna, shiitake, jalapeno atop a bed of crispy sushi rice. This is a specialty roll that I have a mild obsession with. I'm happy to report that it's excellent. Their sushi is fresh and the cooked food options we tried including vegetable tempura and unagi don were well executed and satisfying. The service was warm and attentive enough without being overbearing. The prices are reasonable and offer good value especially during lunch. It's no surprise that the restaurant was packed by the time we finished out meal. If I still lived in Chelsea, I could see myself dining at Momoya quite frequently.

Went to Momoya on my last night in Manhattan and it was divine. We came in early enough and got a nice table before the dinner rush. The sushi is made well - not a large roll of rice cut unevenly. The tempura and sashimi are high quality. It's a fancier dining experience and great for special occasions.

A no fuss Japanese eatery with one of the best sushis in nyc!
Their lunch menu ranges from donburi to bento boxes that are reasonably priced and scrumptious.
Try their edamame ricotta dumplings which are quite refreshing on the palate.. The shrimp chicken shumai seems like an odd combination but pleasantly surprising tastewise. Clean your palate with their fresh brewed green tea served in cute porcelain cups
The ambience is very relaxed and has a Tokyo tearoom feel to it. Momoya has entrees that will fill you up for a while- their salmon avocado donburi not only looks super appetizing but is equally delicious..

Restaurant was bustling @ 6:00 PM, which was the first sign that we were in the right place! Service was excellent.
Appetizers of spring rolls and shu mai were tasty,
and the lobster sushi roll with its special dipping sauce was mouth watering!
The avocado and eel roll was excellent!
Cannot wait to go back!

Great local restaurant. Once again Urbanspoon did not steer us wrong on a good local choice for a restaurant. This was a busy restaurant, filled with locals and the menu had a good variety. Service was great and the food was excellent. Big portions and very fresh. Would definitely recommend. Can't wait to come back to the city to visit Momoya again!!

Not too bad. A little pricey for decent sushi. Order a bento box and sides to share with a friend.

The rolls are quite beautifully presented. They just need a hint more flavor.

Ooooh I waited so long to finally get a spot here! There’s not always a wait, but whenever I was walking by at rush hour there was one! I think it moves pretty fast because it all is very efficient when you walk in. Tables are close, but nothing new for a New Yorker. We didn’t go there for elbow room did we?! The ricotta edamame dumpling with truffle sauce alone is worth overhearing your neighbor’s conversation. The crispy rice is fantastic and some of the best I’ve had. All the rolls were yummy too. Definitely would say you can get the classics, but urge you check out their more unique dishes - they’re special! 10/10 will go back. And the staff was the SWEETEST!

Title: Fantastic Sushi Experience at Momoya Chelsea! Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently dined at Momoya Chelsea, and it was a truly outstanding experience from start to finish! First and foremost, the service was top-notch. The staff provided exceptionally fast and attentive service throughout the meal. It was a delightful surprise to have an open sushi kitchen where you can see the skilled chefs in action, crafting their culinary masterpieces. Speaking of masterpieces, the sushi at Momoya Chelsea is nothing short of wonderful. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, it's a sushi lover's dream come true. I was particularly pleased with the reasonable prices for sake, which complemented the sushi perfectly. However, what truly made my evening unforgettable was the outstanding service provided by my server, Franky. He went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was exceptional. His knowledge of the menu, friendly demeanor, and genuine enthusiasm added a special touch to our meal. Thanks to Franky, we had a fantastic time! In conclusion, Momoya Chelsea has it all - great food, fast service, and an open sushi kitchen that adds to the dining experience. And with servers like Franky, you're guaranteed a memorable and enjoyable time. I can't wait to return for more delicious sushi and outstanding service!

Momoya is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. My husband and/or I eat here almost once per week. It's always fresh and delicious. We bring people here all the time from out of town and they always fall in love with it. Favorites and musts are the bento box as well as the crispy tuna rice but I honestly love almost everything. Come during lunch as there is almost never a wait for a table and slightly reduced price menu. Dinner doesn't take reservations and there is almost always a wait. Only negative thing to say is that the atmosphere was SO much nicer when they had the garage doors they could raise for an open air experience. This is no longer possible because of a hideous wooden shed they affixed during the pandemic to the front of the restaurant for additional seating. The food isn't cheap, but the experience is almost always delightful.

Came here on a Friday night around 7:15pm and only had to wait 15mins to get seated. This restaurant doesn’t take reservations, you need to be there in person to add yourself to the waiting list. We really liked the food and the vibe was chill and relaxed

Very solid sushi at a great price! Really enjoyed my sweet potato tempura roll and the avocado roll hit the spot. Friends got fancier signature rolls which they enjoyed!

A Culinary Symphony at Momoya - An Experience Not to be Missed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the moment we stepped into Momoya, it was clear that we were in for an unforgettable dining experience. The ambiance is an alluring fusion of modern elegance and traditional Japanese charm. It’s the perfect backdrop for the culinary symphony that is about to be performed on your palate. We began our meal with some tantalizing appetizers. The Warm Mushroom Salad was an ode to the earthy essence of mushrooms, bathed in a delicate and flavorful dressing that had us scraping the plate. Another showstopper was the Eggplant Miso - the soft, smoky eggplant blanketed in a rich miso glaze was nothing short of divine. The pièce de résistance in the appetizer department was the Tuna Tortilla. Imagine the freshest tuna, seasoned to perfection, perched atop crisp tortilla triangles. Simple yet revolutionary! Then the sushi rolls began to arrive, and we were swept away in a whirlwind of taste and texture. The Salmon Crunch Roll was an extravaganza of flavors with every bite, the perfect harmony of salmon with a crunch that makes your taste buds dance - a well-deserved 10/10. The Crispy Rice Roll was an ensemble of textures with the crispy rice forming the stage for the topping's star performance - another 10/10 without hesitation. The Nakamura Roll was an opus of traditional meets innovation, encapsulating the essence of Japanese cuisine with a contemporary twist. As we progressed, the Black Dynamite Roll proved its name. It exploded with flavors so dynamic, it was like fireworks in our mouths. The grand finale was the Momoya Spicy Tuna. An impeccable fusion of spice and pristine tuna that was a match made in heaven. This dish encapsulated everything Momoya stands for - quality, flavor, and innovation. The staff was gracious and knowledgeable. Their recommendations were spot on, and their service was seamless. As we walked out, we left with full bellies and even fuller hearts. If gastronomy is an art, Momoya is its Michelangelo. This was not just a meal; it was a journey through the zenith of Japanese cuisine. Whether you are a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese fare, Momoya is a gem that should not be missed. If I could give more stars, I would. Highly, highly recommended. #MomoyaMagic #CulinaryJourney #NYCDiningGem

Came here for a work celebration and ordered a bunch of food. The Omakase menu is worth it, some great pieces in there. Their rose and white wine was excellent for pairing.

Momoya is a great spot for a low key sushi night. Pretty high quality fish and prices are good. Our waiter was excellent and so nice and attentive. We walked in and waited about 7 min, which is not bad for a Wednesday night in Chelsea!

Not only is their presentation is super aesthetic, but their food is delicious. They also provide thick cuts for the sushi and the meals get pretty filling even though it may looks small. I enjoyed every bite of my meal and it was just the right amount of food. Pricing is slightly higher but it is very much worth for the quality they offer - also their service is A+. There was no rush but at the same time, they would swing by real quick to make sure our waters were re-filled. We all absolutely loved each dish we ordered and would definitely make another visit.
