Quality ingredients makes for a damn good pizza. The dough and crust was just the right amount of crispiness. Fresh cheese was delicious!
Small little place with a wood fire oven. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Great pizza place with lots of authentic Italian touches and dishes. The panuozzi has a great crunchy crust, and you can choose from a wide range of types/ingredients. The pizzas - of course! But also do check the antipasti, e.g., the melted cacciocavallo with truffle oil and roasted peppers is mouthwatering. The staff is polite and patiently answers question while helping with the order. The place is really small and not too comfy (it's hot inside because of the furnаce) but the food and service, both, compensate for that.
Wow!! Very Italian place. Waiter suggested items and we bit. Very Italian dishes. All great tasting, great presentation, great portions! Was reasonable priced for NY. Will eat there again. Only can give 5stars, but deserves more!!!! Try this place it will not disappoint!!!!
Absolutely delicious! Came here for lunch and loved everything we got. For a group of 4, we got burrata, a salad, two pizzas (the crust was perfect), gnocchi and 3 desserts — surprisingly, it was just about the right amount of food. Each dish was great. I’m sad I just came to this place for the first time since I’ve lived here for 4 years and am about to move. Staff was also very friendly. Would highly recommend!
Authentic restaurant with a real Italian touch. Food was amazing, worm and welcome service, ask for the special plate, wowww it was delicious.
Pizza Is very good here! The place is nice but not amazing inside nor outside. That is why I gave 4 stars to the atmosphere. I would not bring my date here but I would rather look for a place that is nicer and more romantic. But if you are looking for just a very good Italian pizza in Manhattan, this place is definitely for you.
Very authentic Italian pizza. So crispy! Maybe the best one on UES.
True Italian Naples style pizza. Great ingredients, good flavor, and a crunchy crust. Would recommend.
Amazing calzone (ricotta salami) and informal Italian outdoor dining, very cozy the owner and service are very attentive and friendly, end with their own house brewed coffee (the Nutella dessert looked incredible too), perfect for an afternoon or warm evening.
This is my go to place for pizza in nyc. Pizza is amazing, staff is friendly and cozy atmosphere. Be aware that this is not NYC style pizza, but Italian style instead (which in my opinion is way better and less greasy). If you’ve been to Lucalli and liked it, this place is for you!
UPDATE: It's a sad day when I have to update this review but it's here. The owner has retired to a Cafe he runs elsewhere and new management has taken over this place. He's a great guy but cut too many corners. They no longer user triple fermented sourdough, and the crust now doesn't have anywhere close to the air it used to have in the photos here. The crust taste is completely gone. It's still remarkably thin but just tasteless like every other Pizzeria, not as unique as it used to be. Cheese was also tasteless. Looks like too many corners have been cut, and the price went up so there's really no upside to this change. It seems that people have caught onto the changes because it was empty on a Sunday at 5pm. Was always full at that time. Oh well :/
OLD REVIEW: As usual, San Matteo remains to make the single best Neapolitan Pizza I have ever tasted in my entire life. Nowhere in North America gets even close to it. It's no wonder they import water from Naples to make their dough. The sourdough crust tastes just magical. The sauce is just perfectly balanced. The Buffala cheese isn't as heavy or curdy as others we've had. It's just a perfect pizza. I strongly recommend sticking to the Margherita so you can enjoy the taste of pizza without having toppings interfere with the taste. I'm going to Naples this spring and I seriously doubt we'll taste better pizza there. This pie is at a completely different level compared to any other 'Neapolitan' pizzeria in North America.
I got the Capricciosa pizza and it was amazing! I’m not Italian but I’ve been to Italy and this definitely felt authentic.
Great pizza, quality ingredients, nice service, outside seating - all at a decent price. Recommended!
The server and pizza maker were both friendly. Generous outdoor seating, Well made and tasty pizza, but a little over-priced. Got one Vestuti pie, one Diavolo pie, each $20.
A hidden gem of Neapolitan taste. San Matteo has a great family atmosphere and the fantastic taste of authentic Neapolitan pizza and Italian food. Highly recommended
The most wonderful food and wine. Might be the best pizza outside italy.
long-time customer.
