Bennachin Restaurant - New Orleans - Photo album

Overall, the experience was great. My only bad comment is that the beef plates, the beef was really tough...but overall, the family gave 4 stars for the food. The flavor was great. The service was sweet and the restaurant had an African feel about it. It was in the French quarter. Nice Christmas
We're in New Orleans for a long weekend and wanted something interesting that we can't get back home. New Orleans is famous for many things but vegetarian food isn't one of them. This restaurant ticked every box - the food was flavorful and different, the service was friendly and helpful and the mea
Really enjoyed this African restaurant in the French Quarter. Had the namesake dish and a second entree with black eyed peas along with a lentil soup starter. Unique flavors and presentation, easy to see a Caribbean connection to West African cuisine. Glad we found this spot. The crew is small so se
As a customer of this restaurant since 2002 Bennachin has been my favorite restaurant and a place I have to visit often. The owner and her family as well as the ambiance of the setting transforms you to Africa when you enter the door. The food is consistently phenomenal, I always suggest the Sisay
Very cute place. The owner / waiter was super friendly. And it was fun to try a cuisine I had never tried before. I ordered a beef and spinach stew called Egusi. And my Mom ordered Jamaican chicken with rice. They had a lot of vegan and vegetarian options as well. My only warning is: they mean bus
Amazingly delicious, well portioned and wallet-friendly gem in the heart of a place where many of the other eateries feel too fried/salty/oily or designed to be tourist traps. We had the Jamaican Chicken and Kone Ni Mak (beans in a yummy tomato and onion stew with fried plantains and a coconut rice
I went straight to the French Quarters to try their egusi soup with fufu. Overall pretty cool atmosphere and the wait wasn't long at all. I requested the egusi soup to be spicy and it was indeed spicy but next time I think I would maybe go mild or medium on spice level. Fufu was great as well. Next
I had a wonderful experience here, the food is amazing and the staff is super sweet and really helpful. It’s a nice quiet and homey vibe very comfy and relaxing with the sounds of Afro best going in the background. After eating my egusi soup I wanted to lay down and fall asleep I almost forgot where
A local friend recommended I come here since I am vegetarian. The service was really great! I ordered the vegetarian jambalaya that comes with steamed spinach, and carrots in place of the beef. I like spicy food and overall it was good although for a dish of rice it was a bit dry. Some more of the s
I was looking for something vegetarian and this definitely hit the spot. This was like a quality meal you would have at your grandmother's house and everything felt very intimate and personal. The prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back.
The meats here (we tried chicken and lamb) are cooked tender to perfection, and the sauces are so. flavorful. Favorite/best meat so far in New Orleans! I've also only rarely had African food so this was a great opportunity to try some.
I love this place! The food is soooooo good. There were several years between the first time I went and the next time. Any time I thought of going to New Orleans in that period, I thought of how I had to go back to Bennachin. Even the rice is bomb, that's how you know a place is legit. It also works
the wait is very long and we were the only one ln the restaurant at the time. Despite that. The food was really, really good I would definitely come back to explore more menu options. Our food was hot and fresh we order egusi soup w/ fufu and domoda was amazing and well seasoned.
Amazing West African food. We got the Akara black eyed pea fritters to start, and also got the iced hibiscus tea. Then we split the Kone Ni Makondo, which is black-eyed peas in tomato and onion stew served with fried plantains and coconut rice; and Bennachin, which is Jollof rice with spinach. Every
Excellent African food at the edge of the French Quarter. Many options for vegetarians as well as allergies or people not keen on spicy. Staff were friendly and relaxed. Was surprised to see it busy even at 2 in the afternoon. Recommended lunch stop when in the area.
We stumbled upon this gem because we were searching for vegetarian friendly meal options (of which NOLA seems sorely lacking). Many vegetarian meal items on the menu; some look vegan friendly as well. We enjoyed the Akara appetizer, lentil soup, and the Jama and Yasa dishes. They also serve chilled
