Tavern On State

Exceptional! We had lived in New Haven since 2014 and were always waiting for a great culinary destination to open. Along came Tavern in the Spring of 2019. We have dined at and have had takeout from Tavern dozens of times, to this day it remains some of the best food you'll find anywhere, not to mention the incredibly friendly team behind the creations. Tavern is one of the restaurants we compare other dining experiences to, it is, to say the least, an incomparable restaurant. At the start of the pandemic, less than a year after opening, Tavern provided a glimmer of hope, and of joy. Their takeout food and cocktails quickly became a staple of weeknights/weekends at home. During this time, the amazing team behind Tavern became familiar friendly faces and enthusiastic members of the community. We certainly looked forward walking down the street to pickup food, eager to see what tasty creations awaited us. We've visited Tavern for nearly every occasion (and no occasion at all): date night, birthdays, graduations, and family visits. Here you'll always find a gracious and inviting place to dine and relax. The combination of excellent food and otherworldly cocktails is a dream (yes, we have dreamed of past meals here). While there will always be classic Tavern dishes, the food is always innovative and inspired. Thank you for the memories had and the ones yet to come.

Absolutely loved Tavern! It is a gem in New Haven and I’m so glad I finally got to try the restaurant. They have a unique menu with one of a kind dishes (entrees and apps). First things first, our servers Lauren and Ashely were great, very kind and attentive. They were handling our table and others with absolute ease. Hats off to them for being great all around. Our food was hands down the best in New Haven. The kitchen was on their A-game tonight, and undoubtedly every other night. The bartenders were also amazing. My girlfriend and I got the “Divide and Concorde”, we loved them. The drinks were made quickly and with consistency each time we got another round. If i could give this place a 6/5 I would. I’ve already recommended this place to everyone I possibly can. Thank you Tavern on State for a wonderful date night!!!

Amazing food and service. The flavors were incredible with everything cooked to perfection. Definitely try the octopus, you won't be disappointed. It's amazing how tender they make it. No dish was one note, all had a complex pairing of flavors and textures making each a journey in itself. We went here with my parent's for their anniversary and all agreed we would love to return. Sharing a bunch of small plates with a group is the best way to experience the wide range of interesting and inventive dishes offered here. This was rated best up and coming restaurant by VisitCT for a reason. Get there and try it out before this place gets too popular to get in! The intimate and well styled interior along with a casual patio / alley area give a nice range of settings to enjoy the delicious food. The best feeling you can get from a restaurant is feeling that every cent paid was more than worth it. You won't be disappointed by Tavern on State.

The food is delicious, the presentation is impeccable and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. A delight to visit this place for dinner where every course was better than the previous one and the place has the most amazing vibes. A great meal and exceptional service made it a memorable evening.
