Review Abate Restaurant - New Haven

Decided to try Abate Restaurant after trying the other 'must have New Haven pizza joints'. Pizza was good, however it is a thicker crust than the others (Sally's, Frank Pepe's, Modern) and honestly was more of a regular pizza joint (if you can call it that). Staff very friendly, would I return, maybe. However I do prefer Modern and Franks pizza more personally..

Ordered take out, and despite eating the pizza roughly 25 minutes later, it tasted great. The spinach pizza was jam packed, and the cheese pizza was flavorful. I appreciated that the pizza was not oily.

Where to start? The meatballs were very flavourful, The marinara and Garlic bread was sublime, the pizza was giant, and the pepperoni was crazy good. The prosciutto salad was made with fresh mozzarella. The staff were friendly and attentive even though we got there close to closing, we had no wait time, and the food came relatively quick They serve Peroni Beer and Foxon Park soda. Now on to the desserts. the tiramisu Oh, the tiramisu. I've only had it once before (at a different place), and it was ok wasn't sure I was going to try it Oh my, I'm so glad I did. I fear it will be far too long before my taste buds are graced with such a profoundly smooth, well-balanced creamy tiramisu. Now for the cannolis, I have not had them in a while and forgot how good they could be. These bite-sized morsels of heaven are light and satisfying to no end. The addition of the sprinkles gave it a relaxed silly vibe that was perfect for the festive atmosphere. That leaves us with the carrot cake. Wow, the cake itself was light and fluffy, allowing the carrot flavor to take charge and not be overpowered by the frosting, which can be too sweet. Not in this case. The whipped topping helps bring it all together in a word Balanced. They also have an extensive menu. TBH, we didn't get off the appetizer page. Thank you to everyone that served us that night. Such a fun place to go. A must have is the Stuffed Eggplant Rollatini. I'm not kidding all 4 of us could not get enough of that dish. My son who loves pizza gives this pizza two thumbs up! Did I mention Bill Clinton visited here too!

Takeout order of veggie and seafood gluten free pizzas. As you can see from the pizza toppings sliding forward, I was a bit anxious to get home and start eating. Hands down best GF crust in New Haven. Seafood in white sauce is decadent. The veggie has eggplant which was different than others I've had but good. Overall great pizzas.

I really hate leaving bad reviews especially when it’s for a place that I’ve ate from a few times before with no real big issues. I decided to place an order through the DoorDash app for an order of Zuppa di pesce from abates. I specifically requested the pasta be made with white sauce because red sauce does not always agree with my body. My order arrived (after being delayed) and the pasta was in red sauce. I immediately contacted DoorDash who only offered me a $9 refund (order was $39). I then chose to contact the restaurant directly who reassured me they would fix it and have their delivery driver bring the correct order. The driver arrives and they want the old order back(?) ehh ok as long as I get my food that’s fine. They literally sent me less than half of the first portion I received in the wrong order. 1 shrimp really?? Sauce was watery and flavorless. I’m so disappointed!!!

Amazing pizza!!!! Great pasta!!!! We stopped in for a late lunch and we were not disappointed. Stop in to little Italy on Wooster St and eat up!!!! Inside & outside dining.

I had a get together with girls from work and girls that retired . The food was excellent the service was great . I can't brag enough about the place . We had the private room . It was very comfortable and relaxing. The wait staff couldn't do enough got us . I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is having a dinner party . Every one that came thanked me for picking abates 😘

Simply the best Pizza and Italian Rest. in Connecticut. I had the Brocolli Rave for the first time yesterday....let's just say it won't be my last. Everything was perfect from the staff to my order being placed and how fast it came out. I definitely recommend this to anyone reading this and you will not be disappointed.

Great Wooster Street New Haven style apizza - especially loved the fresh tomato and basil pizza, as well as the white pizza with spinach, ricotta, and roasted peppers, though even plain mozzarella is delicious as well!

The bar is great!! The happy hour is awesome, I got a meatball parm sub, fries and a beer for 7bucks. Food is great. Best Italian food on Wooster

Their pizza is excellent! Hands down just as good as the rest of Wooster st. Their prices are reasonable. I was able to get a 9 inch pie for under $10! The atmosphere is typical mom and pop which I love! A great family restaurant. The only complaint was it did take a little while for the food to come, although the waiter did knock off the drinks from the bill. Orherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Absolutely outstanding. Squngilliy salad was so fresh and just about the best calzone we’ve ever had. Highly recommended! 👌👏💯

One of the "big four" at what I refer to as ground zero for pizza-holics. I'd always enjoyed Abate as delivery to where I work and finally got to try it in the restaurant. If you were to ask if it is better/worse than the others down there, I would say neither. Each pizzeria on Wooster street is great in it's own way. Abate has a fantastic crust and the toppings are first rate. One thing I did note is that the service was absolutely top notch. I plan to go back and try the mainstream Italian fare as well.

We walked in not knowing what to expect and were definitely not disappointed. Our server, Kate, was fantastic and the portions were great for the price! We will be back, no doubt!

Pepe's pizza - the line was long, and we were hungry! Sooo, we tried Abates, and we're so glad we did. Despite a long wait for a table, the pizza was wonderful NY style. We are sold.

Great atmosphere and good food. Reminds us as if we were at Nonnie's house. Our go to place for APizza. Pasta fishes are great and subs are too.

Yesterday we Celebrated Mother's Day at Abate's on Wooster St. We were a group of 13. I can't say enough about how GREAT the food and SERVICE was. The prices of the Special Menu was outstanding, and even had the option of ordering off the menu. If it's offered next year, we will surely be returning !!!!!

OK pizza. Not great. They're down the road from Frank Pepe's and Sally's, so this is the place you go to when you can't get a seat at those places.

I have been eating at Abate for over 16 years. When I worked in New Haven my buddy would meet me every Friday for lunch. I am retired now but still pop in on occasion for an Abate pizza. They have been consistently good thru out the years and I will continue to return and enjoy their food.

Service and food was great last night from drinks,apps,dinner and dessert awesome!!!
