We went later at night on a Saturday.. Greeted when we walked in, we were informed we needed to order everything we wanted all at once because the kitchen shuts down in a hour. (The entire restaurant and bar closes at 11, it was 8:57, kitchen closes at 10, we were out practically a couple minutes after the “kitchen” closed) Bar area was full and entertaining, seemed like all regulars, we sat at a table. Waitress was nice but felt rushed still. There was three separate menus: specials, reg menu, and drink. Wide range of food to order from, a lot of “comfort foods”. Tables are close together, wouldn’t recommend taking a infant or baby here, personal opinion, because of the tight seating and small atmosphere. Floors were semi dirty, straw wrappers around and such like it wasn’t swept recently(see in pictures, zoom in on floor. I understand if your busy but it only takes a minute and saw about five to six employees leave during the time we were there, so staffing wasn’t an issue) Food was excellent though, left full that’s for sure. I tried getting a picture of the outside but it was completely dark like the place was already closed for the night, no lights or anything. Parking is kinda tight in the area. On street parking only, not parking lot. If you have the time, explore the town a little. Great history in the area!

Awesome Bar, if you are looking for wings don’t stop here! This isn’t our ordinary bar, this is a Colonial style bar, featuring comfort food like pot roast, meatloaf and duck! Prices are very reasonable! If you are into seafood go check out their Steamed Mussels my wife enjoy them! Their fries are great!
I had Pot Roast on a Tuesday! My wife has their Super Pill beer it’s blonde very good! I had their Sparkling Cherry Vodka Cut with Sprite, than to top it off we had Ice Cream and Water Ice both were very good!

Every bit as good as advertised. Hands down the best food and service I had on my vacation. Great atmosphere and decor. Nestled walking distance from the beautiful Delaware River, in old Town New Castle, Jessop's Tavern is well worth the stop. I'd give the food more than 5 stars if Google allowed it!

This is a hidden gem in gorgeous New Castle downtown area. The Shepheard,s Pie and Fish and Chips are award winning and people come from all over the world, for good reason. If you've lived here a long time and never been to the waterfront in New Castle you are missing out. The price point is great and no taxes in Delaware make it even more affordable. Don't even get me started on their selection of beers, lagers, and whiskeys from Ireland. Everything here is amazing. You won't be sorry!

Overall, this is a good place to eat. The crab dip was good but the items that came with it like the hard thin toast , the celery, and the carrots didn't go with the crab dip. The bread went well with the crab dip, but here's the surprise. The bread was great by itself. I would have loved the loaf of that bread with some butter on it!
I was really looking forward to the fish and chips since they say they've been rated number one in Delaware for 3 years. They are totally different than i thought they would be. They were not crunchy at all, but sort of thick crust. Chewy. That doesn't sound good but it was good.
And now for the real surprise. My standout that I ate while I was there were the deep fried cottage potatoes. They were a would recommend! I actually finished them first before the fish because they were so good. I could just go in there and get those and some ketchup and be happy happy joy joy!
And now for the last thing, the bread pudding. I have to say the bread pudding was good with the sauce that comes on it. I took a bite without the sauce, thought it is a little better. The coffee was really good too! My wife enjoyed her salad also.

Wow, great food! Great atmosphere! Step in the door and step back 300 years! The mussels were delicious. The pot pie so savory. Leave 2022 behind and enjoy a meal from another century. Claire and Jamie from Outlander would feel right at home. Easy stop off I-95. If you are traveling north or south Jessop's Tavern is worth the time.

It was so fun to eat at this restaurant!! I would call to make a reservation though. We made a reservation for 5 on the computer and it didn't go through so we had to come back at 7:45. But when we did get in it was such a cool restaurant. The building is several centuries old and they light the candles on your table and the wait staff wear costumes to make you feel like you have stepped back in time. I got the fish and chips which was very good. The fish was amazing. However the fries are thick wedge fries so if you don't like that kind of fries you may want to order a different side. My husband got the pastrami sandwich and sweet potato fries and loved it! They also have great ice cream. Motor oil is a coffee ice cream with drizzles of chocolate in it. Also the flatbread appetizer was really good.

This wasn’t an ordinary dinner. It was an event where the event was the meal. From the appetiser, to the main course, to the desert the food was special. The serving size was generous. I wound up taking home a significant piece of Shepherd’s Pie along with half of my dessert. I have no hesitation recommending Jessop’s. I look forward to returning.

Love the Colonial atmosphere, but the food is only mediocre. My fault, I keep going back. Their food is served in generous portions but not that great. Friendly staff. I have had the turkey - ok; shepherds pie - just ok; the meatloaf was a little better than okay and so was the pot roast. I think I have given them enough chances. Maybe I'll go for lunch - their salads and sandwiches may be better. The few times I have had their bread pudding - it was worth the trip - and they serve Woodside Dairy ice cream - which is the best.

I try to get here with some regularity - like once or twice a year - and they never have been a disappointment. Love the atmosphere and the food has been decent with healthy serving sized portions. Last night was no exception - the seafood soup was loaded with the seafood, the red black and blue was cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries were particularly tasty. Mother Jessops Bread Pudding is one of he main reasons I come here in the first place and was great as always but, I was painfully full leaving and still felt that way this morning. Someday I will actually get around to trying the Shepard's Pie since that's sort of a signature dish for them. .

The food was great, I had chicken pot pie and my husband the pilgrims platter. Great food and a good price. My only complaint is that it’s small and difficult for a person in a wheelchair to get in and out without moving several people, but at least he could get in.

Love the Colonial atmosphere! A fantastic variety of beers! The Belgian beers are the best .
The food is very good. Good service. Good music. It’s mire then food & beers, it’s an experience!
Every time I’m in town I’ll grab the chance to have a great meal there. My favorite place in the area!! You’ll love it!

The Thanksgiving dinner was excellent. Our waitress was great even with a packed house.
The portion was large and we took home enough for another dinner.
I recommend Jessops and will definitely be back.

The food is good. The place is historic with a cozy atmosphere and the service was friendly. Most satisfying of all, the number of Belgian ales on tap is quite impressive and they don’t limit you to an 8 ounce tulip glass when you order the triple.

The food was excellent. If you order the meatloaf you will need to share it or take a portion home for a later meal. The atmosphere is fantastic! I highly recommend the restaurant and town.

I have eaten here several times and I am never disappointed. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is authentic! I truly feel like I’m going back in colonial times when I walk through the door.

I had a hot roast beef sandwich and my better half had the hot pastrami both sandwiches were over the top deliscous and so were the sweet potato fries. Excellent stock of craft beers. Pleasant and speedy service with the
staff dressed in colonial period dress was a nice touch.

My daughter and I had a delicious dinner here. Started with waffle fries with “cheesy crab goodness “ on top. Yummy! She had salmon and I had the pot roast both were cooked perfectly. The green beans were very good and I’m not usually a fan. Great beer selection too. Going back very soon.
