South End Restaurant

I've eaten here at least five times with consistently inconsistent results. Service is always pleasant; the bar is always busy; and the vibe is always fun -- but the food itself is hit or miss. Appetizers and desserts are very good and bookend a meal with main dishes that simply don't keep pace. From the apps, Nonna's meatballs are tasty and served with bread ready to be dipped in the accompanying sauce. The risotto balls are yummy cheesiness and the charred Brussels are delish. Fast forward to dessert and scoop up the cookie skillet (warm and gooey). Unfortunately, social norms may pressure you into having a "main dish," which likely will disappoint. The local duck breast has too little duck and too much "root vegetables" -- and assembly of odd accompanying veggies that includes massive hunks of onion and just doesn't work with the duck. It was our first time at south end tonight and we absolutely loved everything! The octopus was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. We had the scallop risotto as well as the duck and both were fantastic. Finished off with the ricotta donuts. South end did not disappoint! We will definitely be back. Our sever Larry deserves a review of his own. In a world where servers seem to dread their job Larry was a true pleasure!! One of our new favorites in town.

I like to review after several visits. Every time there's a great experience. The wait staff especially the bar tender ursla are very friendly even when the place is busy. They have a great drink list. The menu always changes super innovative and everything always comes out perfect. I always order raw oysters they are so fresh as well as the grilled octopus.

The food was top rate. The service was very slow (even though they were not full), uninterested and one had the sense that they felt superior to you - unless you were a friend or a regular. Incredibly loud ambiance (seemingly a trend is restaurants these days). Will not be back even though the food was great.

Big group, party went perfectly, staff was really nice and patient with many young kids and a few dozen adults. A few other restaurants were giving us the runaround on a birthday party but South End took the challenge and said they could get it done, and they got it done. Thanks for all hard work helping everyone have an enjoyable birthday party today.

Had an awesome experience all around..This restaurant is run top notch from the minute you walk in, very accommodating. Although we are usually bar eaters, we dined in the dining room and I must say we were quite pleased. Our waiter Larry was awesome, very friendly, knowledgeable of the wine and food giving recommendations as needed. We enjoyed and were quite happy with the butternut squash with farm egg, house made pasta with summer corn, and magnet duck with foies gras, even had room for the carrot cake -to dye for, I must add.🤩 Everyone really was awesome....and we can’t wait to return from White Plains, NY Thank you all to a really amazing dining experience! 🍽🍷🍽🍷 Highly recommend...
