Review Rippy's Honky Tonk - Nashville

Brett Daviau
Typical bar/restaurant/honkytonk on the main drag. Ribs were good, live music was great (cover bands), service was good. A bit crowded, but we were able to find a seat for lunch on Saturday.

Rippy's Honky Tonk is a quintessential Nashville institution, nestled in one of the most prime locations on Broadway, making it a must-visit for both tourists and locals seeking an authentic Music City experience. Situated on the corner, right across the street from the iconic Bridgestone Arena, this establishment is an embodiment of the city's vibrant music scene. What sets Rippy's apart is its size and the immersive live music experience it offers. With three expansive floors, it can accommodate a large and diverse crowd. Each floor hosts live bands, ensuring there's always a captivating performance happening. The ground floor typically features traditional country tunes, while the upper levels may introduce a more eclectic blend of genres, reflecting the diversity of Nashville's music heritage. One of the standout features of Rippy's is its accessibility. Whether you're a local dropping by after work or a visitor exploring the honky tonks of Broadway, the ease of getting in and out is a game-changer. This convenience allows patrons to experience the thrill of Nashville's nightlife without the hassle of long lines or waiting. Moreover, Rippy's unique location offers an added perk. You can hear the music spilling from its doors from across the street, creating a magnetic pull that draws people in. This interplay between Rippy's and the Bridgestone Arena, one of Nashville's premier event venues, further solidifies the bar's status as a central hub for entertainment in the city. In essence, Rippy's Honky Tonk is a dynamic emblem of Nashville's music culture, offering a multifaceted experience that celebrates the city's rich musical heritage in a prime location, making it an essential stop for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Music City.

This was one of my favorites. The service from our waiter was phenomenal. The staff was amazing. They had great bands.
Amber Tallent
Lisa, our server, was excellent. Gold star for attentiveness, personality, and amazing service. People= amazing. Food and drink= were ok. Lisa made sure everything was amazing and perfect for my first time in Nashville. Give that girl a raise! The entire brand rides her fantastic work ethic and persononality.

Absolutely hands down the best ribs ever! Falls off the bone and a perfect smoked. The baked beans are so yummy too. The best part was our server Brian. Everything he recommended was spot on. He was kind and tentative. We will be back 100%

We absolutely love this place!! The food, atmosphere and service, amazing. We were lucky enough to have Brice as our server on multiple occasions. Brice is 5 Star! We will be back in December with a big group and will definitely visit again. Colleen & Kenny Wallace

Rippy’s is quite possibly our favorite Honky Tonk in Nashville. This was our second trip to Nashville, and second time to Rippy’s. Both visits have been excellent. It is the perfect place on Broadway to enjoy good drinks, and AMAZING food. This visit, we got an order of fried pickles, and a Buffalo chicken wrap with fried chicken in it to split between the three of us. This was plenty of food for a day of bar hopping. Everything we have ever ordered here has been great amounts of food at decent prices. Our drinks were good too, I got a Bloody Mary and my parents drank beer. The staff at Rippy’s is friendly and genuine. Very attentive, but not overbearing. The live music was really enjoyable, and we especially loved the band’s original songs. I didn’t catch their names, but they were fantastic. Great food, drinks, music, and service, and an amazing view of Broadway from the second floor!
Debra Louise
It was very crowded, but we got drinks quickly. Ordered Ribs and Fried Pickles. Arrived quickly. Food was hot and very good. Our dirty dishes were cleared quickly and table wiped off. The music was fabulous. I was very impressed.

I had the ribs which were fall off the bone with just a bite, Perfectly cooked! Service was great, never had to ask for drink refill. The band that was playing was the best band on the strip in my opinion. Great place to go for great music, food and drink!

First bar we went to on Broadway/Honky Tonk Highway and it determined the entire course of our weekend because Jessica Terrell was performing. She is the best artist we listened to all weekend, so we ended up coming back to Rippy’s again two days later to watch her again (and seeing her at Taco Bell Cantina the day in between). In addition to Jessica, the bar has good service, good apps, and even an impossible burger for vegans! Their diet cokes are awesome too! As I write this review, I am thinking about going to the gift shop to commemorate the awesome Rippy’s experience.

Absolutely best night at Nashville. Made my whole experience. Two absolutely fantastic young bands. Was in tears during quite a few of the songs

We had an amazing time here. The catfish was great, my wife had a protein salad she really enjoyed, my oldest had a bowl of chili, and the younger ones had cheeseburger kids meals. The kids meals were well proportioned and the burgers were good. My oldest said the chili was spicy, so I finished it (it wasnt). The 2nd floor has a great view of Broadway. I could have sat there and people watched all day. There were three stages, and the one on the 2nd floor played a good mix of rock and old country. They played "You never call me by my name" by David Allen Coe the first song after we sat down. Ironically, my daughter loves this song and asks google to play it at least once daily. We had an awesome time overall. I do wish they had beers on tap. All the beers seemed to be in bottles, not just the ones under "bottles and cans" section of menu. Some cleanup of labels for next menu printing is recommended.

The ribs fell of the bone and were so moist...delicious. the service was #1 but the best part was the band... Tim Andrews band. The lead singer's voice was so on point with every song. The music was being played live.. not prerecorded. Saxophone was off the charts. Everyone danced all night. I Literally did not want to leave so I don't miss the next song. Can't wait to come back. BTW.. this was in the 1st floor.

One of the best Honky Yonks on Brodway! The second floor bands stage is backed by Bridgestone Arena towering as you peer through the glass. This sets the stage for some of the most amazing and electrifying energy you'll find on Broadway. Saddle up to a balcony seat and soak it all in. You can't go wrong with a Night at Rippys!

Rippy's had friendly staff and pretty good live music. We came in and grabbed a table immediately no wait. We got drinks pretty fast our waiter was attentive. The first band that were playing was pretty good. the second band had a bass player that was late. We had some fried beer batter pickles and wait for them. Good atmosphere and vibes.

Came on a Friday night around 6:30 and it was already packed! The sample platter was so good and good bang for your buck! Also had the pulled pork sandwich and those 2 items were more than enough for 2 people! Service was friendly and food and drinks came out fast. Loved that they had a band on both floors.
Rob Rietman
Great bar on Broadway and good food and service!Had a Rod Stewart look alike when I was there with a killer sax player. They nailed it! Bbq so much better than Archers in Knoxville. No wonder they all closed!! Ha!!
alise marohn
Walked in from the street due to the amazing live music. We sat down stairs for a round of drinks and Food. Atmosphere was awesome, bartender was very attentive and the food was yummy! Went up stairs on our way out, nice view if the strip and another live band with great talent. Stop it, it's worth it 🙂👍
Jo-Anne
Had the rippy 's sampler platter. Lots there for two people. The onion rings were the best! The ribs fell off the bone and had a great smokey flavour but they were abbot dry. Loved the pickle. The wings were good. The live music was easy to listen to.
Cody Slyter
Stopped in for some beer and a appetiser. The beer was as good as a Shiner could be, and the nachos were acceptable, nothing special. Service was good, prices were a bit steep but oh well.
Nik Whitener
Pulled chicken bbq sandwich was huge and tasted great!! Fries were decent! Live music was great!! Sweet tea was good!! Service was AWESOME!! If you're a beard connoisseur(guys) or lover(girls) come in and ask for Jacob B!

Horrible Food. I went to Rippy's Downtown Nashville location in hopes of having some of their baby back ribs. I originally ordered the half rack but my server told me they were no longer on the menu so I ordered the full rack. Rippy's has a clever idea here, serve a half rack and call them a full rack!. Like none of us have ever been served a full rack of ribs somewhere else. The ribs were so dry they shredded while trying to pull from the bone. Two different servers asked me how my meal was but really must not have cared as nothing was done to correct the problem. I did find great service and decent food at Pucketts on Church Street.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING TREATED LIKE TRASH.. Save your money and time for much better than Rippy's while in Nashville. My family had the worst experience there last night that we have ever had at any establishment. Terrible service, awful food, and miserable, rude wait staff. The only blemish at all on an incrediible weekend in Music City as we drove 6 hrs from Virginia for my daughter-in-law to run in the Country Music Marathon and for our family to enjoy a long overdue weekend together.
We went to Rippy's last night (4/26/2015) to enjoy our last night together and was that ever a mistake. As we walked by the sign that says "Please seat yourself" we found a table by the bar. We ordered drinks and an appetizer from a sullen little blond waitress. She returned with the most "unappetizing" apppetizer of sausage and cheese floating in about an inch of grease, with a couple of packets of saltine crackers carefully tossed on top. We choked that down, finished our drinks, and finding the band in that area to not be to our liking, paid our check and walked over to the other section to listen to the other band.
As we entered that area, I asked a very nice young man who was bussing tables if there were any seats available and he directed us to a table beside the band. Just a we were taking our seats at the table, a waitress approached and asked what we would be ordering. I told her we would be ordering drinks, and possibly another appetizer (certainly not the one previously ordered). She informed me that the table was reserved for parties coming in to order food, so I asked her to go ahead and bring us a different appetizer. She responded "No, this table is for someone coming in to order a full meal." At 9:40 pm?? Really?? With signs at the entrances that say "Please seat yourself"??
She said we could sit at the bar, and I asked her if there were 4 seats together available at the bar. Her reply: "You can go and take a look." That did it for me right there. I walked over to where all the waitresses were gathered and asked to speak to the manager. They were all suddenly struck with Alzhiemer's and didn't have a manager or know who the manager was. So we left and went to Tequila Cowboy where they were very busy, but we received good service. One must wonder if they were so busy because they too had just encountered the "Rippy's Experience"?
During our weekend, we spent time and quite a lot of money at Honky Tonk, Rock Bottom, The Tin Roof (served by gracious and beautiful "A") and Tequila Cowboy. We enjoyed all that we visited with the exception of Rippy's. Perhaps Mr. Hiil might consider approaching "A" at Tin Roof to train his rude and disrespectful girls on how a lady treats customers who choose to spend their time and money with an establishment. It very possibly could save his business. Because the crew we experienced last night could certainly put Rippy's right out of business..
Be assured, I, my family and friends will never darken the door of Rippy's again and I will be sharing this experience with Mr. Hill personally, as he deserves to hear it directly from a paying customer, and not just reading it in online reviews sites to which I will be posting. A $40 dollar lesson learned, unfortunately.

Eh.... Not impressed. Ordered the pork loin grilled cheese. Lol. Its Kraft slices on Dollar General white bread. The pork is whatever. Someone said the burgers were good. Not trying it. As a matter of fact, I reinstated my Urban Spoon account just to rip on this place.

Bad experience. Was in town feb 5 for a hockey game with my husband and small group. This was our first stop, we sat at table in front was very happy with service in front and loved the lady working in ladies room. However i noticed stairs in back and seen few patrons going up and was naturally curious. I approached a blonde female who was sitting by stairs and asked her what was up there. I was shocked that her demeneor was so off from what i experienced up front. I turned around to my husband and said for him to come with me she not in mood to answer my question. Immediatly this woman stood up and yelling at me that i called her a bit*ch!!!! Omg! I didnt know what was going on i told her to stop acting like one and she put both hands on my chest i told her she just assaulted me where is the manager? She yelled at the door man to get me out of here and i was rushed out! So shocking to drive five hours to nashville for this? We went down the strip the rest of night and had great time at every bar with great staff. Would love to have pressed charges on this woman and the establishment but do not live there and am sure it would be long process. I Do NOT RECOMMEND RIPPEYS

Visiting from Gator Country. Tried the sampler, huge portion, very good. Music was also good. Beer selection could be better, but overall, highly recommend Rippies.
Jennalevine44
Fine for drinking not for eating. I'm pretty sure I had the worst burger ever here...I think this place is probably awesome for drinking and music but not for food..everything which was sub par

There are better places for BBQ.. I've been to Nashville many times over the years, lately I've been eating at Jack's BBQ. For some reason I decided to give Rippy's a try this time around, I wish I would have went across the street and eaten at Jacks.

My wife ordered the Pork loin melt on Texas toast, she ask the server about the seasoned curly fries, my wife was concerned about the seasoning. Come to find out the curly fries are frozen and pre-seasoned. The pork loin was dry, tough and had no smoke flavor. The curly fries were way too spicy for the wife.

I ordered the half slab of ribs with potato salad and baked beens. The potato salad tasted like it was a pre-prepared commercial product, the beens tasted like they opened a can then heated them up.

The ribs were an utter disappointment, they were way over cooked, had no smoke flavor, and no taste from the dry rub. The ribs tasted like they were made the day before and heated up in a steam table, which washed away any smoke or dry rub flavors.

The server was slow, she never even came over to see how everything was, I had to ask for the check. I spent a little over $30 for lunch and feel violated at the shoddy quality food. Next time I'll be eating at Jack's.

Good food. Good music. Good time. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about!

Just went to the rooftop patio, waited 15 minutes for a server, only to be told that we had to order food in order to be served. Just wanted to have a couple of beers and enjoy the band. Management didn't care. Never had a place refuse my money...guess other places like Honkey Tonk Central will get my business tonight. wow...I'm dumbfounded!!!!
Jammy
The food at Rippys is good! We ordered the pulled smoked cocked platter with beans and slaw, and it was great. Local beer in bottles costs about what you expect for downtown ($5.50/each). Our server, Johnny, took care of us well. I'd say take a chance if you're on the fence, and make sure to go upstairs for outdoor seating.
Johnmarcia3000
Rippy's Ribs. The best ribs we had in all of Tennessee. Excellent service.
Food Guru
Come for the food and atmosphere (can be very loud) and not the service. If they had good service the line would be out the door
WanderlustGrrl
Fantastic fried pickles. When in Rome.... try the local cuisine. "Fried Pickles" were new to us and the ones at Rippy's were delicious!!!! They were dill spear shape. The place was jumping for the convention in town so it took awhile for our family of 4 to find a place to sit and have drinks and apps, but worth it. We ended up on the main level and listened to great music. A musician from the band went from table to table with his tip jar which I thought was a bit forward, but maybe that's just the way it is.
Neotc1
Terrible! Do not go there to eat. The worst experience I have had at a restaurant ever. The place smells of urine and garbage and the seating is fend for yourself, with people waiting everywhere to jump on an open table. We waited 20 minutes for a table to open up. We sat down and were ignored for another 20 minutes until someone acknowledged us, telling us they would be right with us. After another 10 minutes we grabbed a waiter and asked if he could take our order, he said he wasn't really a waiter and that we were at a table that wasn't being serviced. He then turned his back on us and took the tables order whom had just sat down. The people sitting at our table (in the middle of the upstairs dining section) before us were waited on, and there were menus on the table, yet we weren't at a serviceable table, what a bunch of BS. We immediately left as I felt disrespected and my fiancé ended up crying about the encounter at the next place we went. They ruined our one night in Nashville, and I will most certainly never return there. Worst. Place. Ever.

" WHAT A JOKE"!!. Went to Rippy's on 3/30/14..What a joke..Ordered a sample plater - 2 beers an a small house salad.....the plater came out first..no plates..no silverware .. ..I had too go ask for that..after we had ate most of the cold plater the salad came ..then the bill 60.00 +...payed 62.00... the waiter came back an asked if everythin was okay ..I told him it wasn't ..then he wanted a bigger tip.too bad for him..get a better job...

AWFUL!! I would never recommend this place! Food was ok, nothing special. Drinks are served in small plastic cups. The service was TERIBLE. We went in with a group of 5. Our server came to get our drink order and food order. Only came back to the table to fill our drinks once. The kitchen brought us our food. We had to have another server bring us silverware. When he brought our checks he threw all 5 of them on the table for us to sort through while he walked away. There was automatically an 18% gratuity added to each of our checks. Nobody at the table was happy about this so we asked to talk to the manager. He said there was nothing he could do and that he would talk to our server about it. So we each had to tip 18% on terrible service. Awful service and management.
Anna
We were looking for music and food downtown and this place delivered. The pork loin melt sandwich was incredible. Good music also. We were there on a Friday night and even though we waited for a table, we were happy to sit and listen to music, eat food, and drink beer because it wasn't half as crowded as the other bars in town.
Montana_sky
Cool place. Haven't tried any food here however the staff was friendly and the drinks were great! Can't get used to seeing kids in a bar like this but they are allowed! The upstairs open, heated patio is a great place to hang out with friends and listen to the live music/watch down on the sights of Broadway.
Mike Cass
Excellent bar, average food
Riette
Don't come for the food!. Beer was OK, ribs were OK. And that's it - fries were cold, coleslaw and potato salad were NOT edible. Our waitress was nice no worries there.
Great locatiom!
Mischamoomoo
Average average and average. Service ok but drinks (g&t) served in plastic cup? Food-ordered mixed tasting platter, ribs, pork, chicken wings, sausage, onion rings, cheese, as well as curly fries and fried pickle. Ribs good with sweet BBQ. sauce. Meat fell off bones. Chicken not so good, dry at times. Rest ok but nothing to write about. Overall considering quality of food and service- way overpriced.
SheChef
Mehhh. Cool place, terrible service (I'm not whole heartedly sure that the person taking our order ACTUALLY worked there!) and not so great overpriced food. I wouldn't recommend it nor return for food or drink.
Molly Woodruff
Great, fast service. Food was hot and yummy! We even spilt a drink and before we knew it, the server cleaned it up and then brought us a new one free of charge. Good BBQ!
Derek
Terrible, Worst BBQ ever!!. Absolutely worst BBQ I've ever had, and I've had Barbecue food all over the country. We went in on a busy night and sat upstairs. Ordered a beer, a half slab of ribs plate and a pulled pork plate. The beer came fast, the ribs came about 30 minutes after we ordered. Very dry and room temperature, not warm at all and seemed to be overcooked. Worst ribs I've ever had. The waitress asked how everything was about 15 minutes after we got the ribs but never got the pulled pork plate we ordered. We waited about another 30 minutes and still no pork plate, she tried to enter it into the computer again. About another 10 minutes later a food runner came out with a chicken dish for us and we said that we've been waiting over an hour for our pork plate and he didn't say anything, he just said "Oh." Our waitress kept trying to ring it into the computer but was too busy to go to the kitchen herself to check on it herself, terrible! She was also the bartender so she was busy, but letting a customer wait over an hour and a half for their food and keep telling us that its on the way and keep trying to ring it in the computer is not right- there is no excuse for that! She still charged us for the beer and ribs even though I complained. DO NOT GO HERE, Worst service and worst BBQ I've ever had- and I've had BBQ all along the strip on Broadway and all around the country. Go to Jacks or Hog Heaven!!!!
Jane Rowan
I had the ribs, the corn pancakes and the onion rings. YUM! Waitress was great---attentive and polite.

Great Lunch Specials!. Rippy's has an all inclusive lunch special that includes your choice of meat (daily blue plate special, pulled chicken, ribs, pulled pork, etc...) plus 2 sides and a drink for only 10 bucks! Word to the wise- mention their Tennessean ad and you get $2 off! Really tasty and convenient if you work downtown and only have an hour for lunch :)
Wolfgirl
Good food, good service.
Sy
Great View. I went to grab a quick bit to eat/ get my sip on there. No big whoop. Nice view from the upstairs. Awesome fried mushrooms.
Brian Burns
Really good ribs. Love the hot sauce for ribs. Its self seating. Food slow to come out but was good and hot.
Jonathan Varnado
Not a family place. Even .... Not a family place.

Even though they have kids menus, this isn't a place for kids, unless you want to them hearing vulgar, drunken conversations. The food was ok, nothing special. The ribs were decent. Beer was warm. Service was good. My verdict? Go somewhere else.
KAE52
If you aren't a man don't even bother. Bartenders only wait on males. They only make tips? Wait on females too.

Ribs Overcooked but Tasty. I know that others rate this joint low, but my first recent experience here was not too bad. We did notice that, compared to other joints on Broadway, Rippy's was basically empty. But it was a beautiful night, the doors and windows were wide open and service was fast. There were two lonely guys in the corner plunking on acoustic guitars. I had the half rib plate with potato salad and rings. The ribs were too done--falling off the bone--but I thought had a good taste. The potato salad was too sweet for my taste. The onion rings were decent. My guests had the pulled pork and half chicken, which they both seemed to enjoy. The real downside was a single shot of mid-shelf bourbon cost about $7, and was served in a flimsy plastic cup. The lack in crowd size told me there's something the locals know that I do not however.
Jmctn2000
Too Expensive !!. $140 for four people. I should have checked their prices before ordering. $5 warm beers. $7 for stale chips and canned salsa. Top dollar for plastic cups and paper napkins. At these prices you should eat at The Palm (next door). Too expensive for mediocre food !!
Courtney Maddox
When we arrives it looked like a neat and inviting restaurant, but realized as soon as we sat down that it wasn't going to be great. Waitress was friendly, but didn't know the ingredients in the food being made. The food was sub par and salty if you didn't receive any food on your plate. It might have been better it I was a little drunk and had to have some food right then. Like I said before the waitress was really sweet and had a good personality, but unless you are going to drink and party I wouldn't go.
Paige Craven Retchko
The pulled pork and chicken sandwiches are so good! Go for the coleslaw. Some of the best slaw I have had in a resteraunt. The beers are oddly priced. 4.50 for PBR and 4.75 for Sierra Nevada? Spend the extra 50 cents! And go for the patio upstairs...nicer atmosphere!
Robb
Stopped around 9 on a Sunday night. Ate upstairs overlooking broadway. Server was helpful and courteous. Had a side salad, chips and queso and some great tasting catfish strips. The catfish was definitely the most memorable part of the meal.
Casey Jones
The service awas actually great! The ribs sucked. Boiled. Sauce okay. Atmosphere was good.
Jason Foxworth
Rude and No Service. This is a bar, not a restaraunt, like they try to advertise. They are counting on you being drunk so maybe you will not notice their rude service. We were told by the person at the door to find a table upstairs. We went upstairs and sat for ten minutes just to be told by a rude waitress that we were sitting at a wrong table? First lack of service then rude service.
Vernalla Arkadie
On a saturday night I visited the bar! And frill and sat at a table downstairs. Not even one waitress came to my table and asked if I needed anything. Btw. . . I am a black female and was eating alone. May 28, 2011. Lisa at the table for one hour. No service ar ny table.
PW Reviews
If you are ok waiting for service, give it a try. We left after waiting and waiting at a dirty table. Hire some service.

It's pretty good, but no Jack's.. I agree with one other review that mentioned the location is what keeps this place open. I would mostly agree. I would add that the open air on nice days makes a great place to go to enjoy some food and fresh air. The food is decent, but nothing to get excited about. If you go, order the BBQ plates and you may get decent portions. I ordered a sandwich and I ended up with mostly bread on my plate.

If you really want great BBQ, I would recommend Jack's, but if you end up at Rippy's, it won't be the end of the world. I will say their sauces are great and their staff is very friendly.
Str8VolBall
Location. This is a great place to pregame for the Predators games or drink beer and listen to some country music. Don't go for the food...
MBL
It sucked!!! Terrible service and mediocre food! It's a shame we couldn't stay to enjoy the music!!
The Rock Foodie
It was a busy Friday but there was one waitress for 8 large tables. Although the waitress did the beat she could, it stll took an hour to get our order. Barbeque was overcooked and the fries wew limp and almost cold. Don't waste your time.
Stephanie Green Beard
Loved it!. We were there for the American Idol auditions and this place rocked, great band, great food!
OHbunny
Oh noes.. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork because the waitress said that the hand sliced pork loin tended to be a little dry. I was shocked at how dry the pulled pork was compared to what I recently tried at BB King's. You take a bite and you just keep chewing! I finished only half my sandwich because my jaw muscles were so tired halfway through. The meat also had a very over-spiced flavor. I couldn't taste the meat at ALL. It's just bad all around. I like spicy BBQ but their sauce i think was maybe my first unintentional encounter with the more vinegary carolina style than the thick and slightly spicy-sweet style I'm used to back home (Oklahoma/Texas). The coleslaw was finely chopped which I liked but very dry and bland (I had to add a ton of salt to it to get to taste like anything) And as far as first impressions, I did not like the band. I will probably never go back, I left so irritated in general with the food and the music.

Location, Location, Location. As my title would suggest, location is everything. As a previous poster mentioned, it's only because Rippy's is on the Broadway strip that it is still in business. Unfortunately, I would wholeheartedly agree.

My girlfriend and I ate there yesterday (3-21-10) as Jack's Bar-B-Que was closed on Sunday. There was a nice band inside but everything else was an average, and in some spots yuck, experience.

I ordered the Smoked Pulled Pork Plate which came with corn cakes, baked beans, and coleslaw. I ordered a house side salad with bleu cheese dressing as well. My girlfriend had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with baked beans and a house side salad with ranch.

The salads were good, having mushrooms included was a nice touch, the dressing was good as well. My pulled pork was not however. I've never had a dry rub pulled pork but I was down for trying it. Unfortunately it was relatively unappealing and the dry rub spices were not a blend I personally liked, as it was very hot. Same goes for their bottled barbecue sauce that sits on the table, very hot in my opinion.

The baked beans were utterly hot both spice and temperature wise, something that is not indicated on the menu. If I'd known the spice factor was what it was, I would've gladly substituted it for something else. I kept biting into pepper kernels which was even more annoying. The coleslaw was good as were the corn cakes. My girlfriend felt the same as I did about the meal.

Our server was ok, I think there is a fine line between being unobtrusive and being ignored/forgotten and it seemed it was more on the latter than the former.

If Rippy's focuses more on flavor than spice to cover up those flavor flaws and improves it customer service, this place would be worth a return visit. Otherwise, I'd not think twice about not returning.

Location, Location, Location. The only thing keeping this restaurant open is Location, because the food is hack. I've tried several things on the menu. I only like the Catfish plate. The BBQ is just weak.
Snook
Ribs.... I came there last week, Larry from the Sleep Inn on Dickerson told me about Rippy's. He was right. I took 9 bones back to the hotel. The ribs were so so good, I didnt like the sauce. The were better without the sauce. Didn't care for the bake beans or slaw. But I was going to Whitts but didn't. So next time I will try Whitts. Hmmm Yummmm
Patrick
Pulled pork and pancakes. What's not to like? Great people watching, great service, good food.
Chef Ramsey
Good music and cold beer. Sit in the window and watch the people walk by.

Staff not aware of people at bar, almost walked out .... My elbow got stuck to some sticky substance on bar& it was a empty Monday night. And the kicker is........ they served me a Martini in a freaggin plastic cup. Not good.

Not the best, not even OK. Service good, Sause bad, ribs had good flavor but were tough.
TasteforCooking
Great BBQ. We were in Nashville for business and the hotel recommended Rippy's. Right off of the Downtown strip - it had a sports bar feel to it with great live music and a large bar area. We sat in the back where the pool tables were so it was a little warm but the service we good. We had the wings as appetizer and they had a nice spice to them. Then we had the Rib Dinner. The ribs had a nice smokey flavor to them but I did not care for the BBQ sauce which was luckily on the side. The dinner was service with beans, coleslaw and corn cakes which we delicious.

I'd go back for the drinks and music, although I'd likely order a burger instead.

The pork was okay - just okay. they sprinkle some kind of "proprietary seasoning" over top of it that perhaps is supposed to make me think it's been dry-rubbed. All it makes me think is, "I wonder if Longhorn is pissed that Rippy's stole their patented Prairie Dust?" Our friend had also raved about the sauce, which I tried in spite of my better judgement. We've been over this, eaters - good barbecue does not. Need. Sauce. I'm willing to try and give a sauce kudos to complimenting the meat when warranted, but this was not one of those times. It had a decent spice to it, but was a vinegary disaster. The Mister didn't care for his baked beans because they had big chunks of onions mixed in. That doesn't mean they were bad, just not for him. Fries were decent, but likely of the frozen persuasion.

All of us had just eaten at the Texas-style BBQ joint Hill Country in New York City a couple weeks ago, and we analyzed and contrasted Rippy's BBQ with that establishment's, acting like the barbeque experts that we weren't. But no, we just wanted good grub on a mini-vacation, and I'm happy to say Rippy's delivered. Now, maybe we'll drop in on Jack's the next time we're in Nashville...
