Review La Carreta - Nacogdoches

Disappointed with food and service! We have been several times and usually it's pretty good. We like that you get sopapillas and ice cream for free! And usually the service is pretty good. But we came recently on a Friday night early like 530 so they were not very busy but our waiter was all over the place, took forever to get whatever we would ask for and often would forget to bring it so we had to remind him. We were the only table he had the entire time. My food, which I ordered the steak beef enchilada plate, was underwhelming, small portion size and just so so flavor. My husband enjoyed his meal very much I forget what he got. We'll go back and hope for the best in the future.

The bartender has a rare quality you seldom find anywhere but in the higher scale restaurants and bars; extremely attentive and cordial. What a pleasure to enjoy this kind of service a small town setting. He also makes a great margarita, and the food was very tasty and reasonably priced!

Over all the ambience is great. The food could be a little more spicy but I guess one can ask for it. But I didn't get that impression. Staff is friendly but our waitress was not too into providing great customer service, but managed it just enough to get a 4 star rating.

I like the atmosphere and the staff. The food is almost always good, but sometimes I find things I don't like and I won't order it again. I really enjoy fajitas, pechuga de pollo, and the salsa. *** 9/11/18...this place recently closed and a new one has taken it. I have not been yet.

Love this place! Great place to meet up with friends for lunch or dinner with a loved one. They have amazing meals to chose from and some of the most enthusiastic severs. Great drinks as well! Don't forget to try one next time you go!

The food was great! Our server was amazing she was so attentive and made us really feel welcomed! The music is great and they appear to be remodeling the bar. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

So I am originally from Houston TX, and moved out here to Nacogdoches to attend school here. I have been here for about a week and start to feel home sick so I decide to grab a couple of my friends and go try this little Mexican restaurant. That was the WORST idea I had come up with since being here. At first the service was pretty good like anything you would expect from a restaurant, we got our drinks chips and ordered our food. Not knowing what to get we all decide to order the fiesta platter since there was 4 of us. We sat in our booths eating nothing but chips and salsa for TWO hours waiting for our food. When the food finally arrived it was the biggest disappointment in a restaurant I have ever had. The fajita was hard as a brick, the so called chicken tasted like fish, the quail look completely burned and unetable, the "catfish" tasted exactly like eggs, the chicken wings and ribs had to flavor what so ever, the rice tasted bland there was really no certain flavor to the rice, the beans were very cold, and the disgusting so called fish casserole that looked like dog food. Needless to say the food was bad just plain bad. We complained to the manager of the establishment and all he did was act like he didn't know what was happening in English and Spanish. Along with the managers the waiters there were giving us smart mouth remarks about our complains on the wait of the restaurant. I highly advise you to not go to this so called "Mexican" the food is naaty and the service is bad, you will save time and money by not going to this place and going somewhere else.

This is our go-to restaurant in Nacogdoches whenever we invite someone out to eat. I was so embarrassed after telling my sister how great it was but the food was tasteless and Bland. I felt sorry for the server who was spending that day and the next day working 12-hour shifts and it was his 21st birthday. Needless to say I called the manager over and explained how awful everything was. Just so happens I know the owner so I've let him know about the terrible food there as well

Great Mexican food, I always order the chimichangas and am never disappointed. Salsa and chips are always fresh and the salsa has a nice bite to it.

Muy Bueno. Place was crowded and noisy, about 80% of the Saturday night crowd consisted of Hispanic families which is a good sign for a Mexican Restaurant. My wife and I have eaten at Mexican places from California, New Mexico, all over Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Mexico (okay it's less Tex-Mex), and on and on. This ranks up in the top three for taste. It's not fancy but that's great cause we consider ourselves plain folks. For appetizers she had Spicy Mexican Mushrooms which could have almost made a meal itself, she saved some for breakfast the next day and I had the Taquitos, 4 beef and 4 chicken (all delicious). The main dishes of Shrimp Tacos with refried beans and rice and Platillo Juan (a special plate of chicken enchilada with salsa verde, cheese enchilada, and 3 shrimp, refried beans and rice) Everything was so tasty. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day at the motel. Our waiter B. was a little forgetful at times or maybe just very busy, but the manager (I think) kept the slack picked up and constantly checked on us. Maybe B. was just new. We left very satisfied and FULL! As my father would say: "My capacity has been fully supplemented". I wish they would have been open for Sunday Breakfast the next day but oh well.

Boring food. Cold beer!. Wait staff is fun. Food is boring.

Solid food, good service. You should ask what they do best. Our server Stephen made some great recommendations. We were visiting from DC and stumbled upon this place by accident. Glad we did! They threw in a complimentary dessert because it was out first time here. They really went the extra mile.

Was my favorite Mexican food place before jalepeno tree and posados opened. My wife and I had our first date here. Used to eat here weekly but in past 5 years eaten her maybe twice. Just not what it used to be. Would eat here only if there was an hour wait everywhere else.

Best Fajitas in town hands down. Staff, ehhh it's hit and miss. Delicious drinks and over food is good. Awkward arrangement of seating though, walls and half walls which does make it private but a tad awkward to navigate.

Meh. This place is ok at best. Go somewhere else.

Friendly service, pretty fast, prices average, the fajitas wrap okay, but chicken fried steak was premade but had good flavor complimentary ice cream was good. 28$ without drinks for 3people.

The food is ok. I had the chicken fajitas. They could definitely use more flavor. The garlic sauce is great on them but also a little warm. The beans and rice are pretty good. I also had a sangaria margarita and it's pretty good as well. I'm used to pappasitos Mexican food. I give this la catterra a 3 out of 5.

Good food and friendly service but the chips are hard.

Mediocre at best. Bland food, no spice, zero taste, full of salt, horrible presentation. avoid at all costs.

Order their specialites. Order something from their specialty section and you will not be disappointed. My daughter ordered a less expensive lunch speical and she was not impressed. If you go there and are on a budget, leave the kids at home so you can order the monterey chicken or one of their other tasty specialties. Atmosphere is nice, kind of like a Posado's style and the service varies from time to time. Mostly good and polite service.

Good margarita, excellent spinach enchiladas & rice, chicken fajitas were great, and the Mexican butter sauce was a tasty addition on the combo fajita plate.

Good food but pricey, crowded, and noisy.
