Review Lampu Japanese Steakhouse - Mount Dora

Sara Wilkerson
My family and I used to always call this place a "hole in the wall" restaurant. We have been customers here for over 2 decades and they have never failed to provide premiere service and food. This is still, bar far, the best hibachi in the tri-county area. This place just feels authentic, and for me it's also nostalgic. I've never been at any other place who serves "white sauce" instead of yum yum. They also gives each table a few of their own personal chilled bottle of white sauce so you can use as you please. The chefs are very generous and the staff is very experienced. Their sushi is also very good - I think they have some of the best I've had in a while. Best ginger salad, there is nothing like it. If you like a ton of butter and flavor and the best leftovers of your life then please give this place a shot! It is the best.

Customers have been supporting Lampu Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar for over 20 years and they are looking forward to providing the best food at a reasonable price for another 20 years. They offer Hibachi, Soup and Salads, Kids Menu, Appetizers, Sushi and Sashimi, Sushi Bar Combos, Roll and Hand Rolls, Special Rolls, Specialty Drinks, Wine, Beer, Sake and Lunch Specials. Add to that, great service and a quint atmosphere and you have the perfect ingredients for success. We loved everything that we had to eat and drink. You can bet, we'll be back soon!

The food is really good, hibachi is entertaining and the service is great. There's a $4 fee for food sharing, but it's worth it because plates are huge. This is not a fancy place. It is well suited for a relatively fast dinner. And at about $20 a person, the price is right.

I tried Lampu for the first time for a date night. I ordered hibachi and he got sushi. Their prices are really reasonable! The bartender makes an awesome rum runner and everything that comes out of the kitchen is amazing. Their specialty rolls are so unique and so yummy and surely will fill you up. Their hibachi is a big portion that you will need to bring home. They serve it with noodles, which in my opinion, is the best. I will surely be back!

We have dined here before for sashimi. Food was great. This time we tried hibachi dishes and found them a bit oily. Everything else was great.

I enjoyed the sushi. The server was great. It could use better atmosphere but if the prices are good, who cares.... fantastic prices.

Everything was great I loved everything about it, but I just wanted to speak in support of a chef in there. There was a very rude and entitled set of customers in there that were being very confrontational even threatening the chef. Those customers should honestly be banned with the behavior they have. I am so sorry that y’all had to deal with those terrible people. Thank you for the great service and the great food!

Yum! (To a previous review, if you are concerned about the chef using the same utensils for all the meat, you shouldn’t be eating hibachi). Hibachi is the same everywhere! When eating at any hibachi you should already know these risks. Aside from that, this place is great, The chefs are hilarious. Had a younger server, she was very kind, a college student. Atmosphere is comforting, could be updated with some paint. People next to us were complaining about how the rice was dry….(that’s why there are many bottles of sauce around you…) You can’t please everyone but my family among many others left happy and full 😀.

We love this place the service is excellent. We were trying to taste everything on the menu but after we both got the filet mignon and lobster tail that's what we get now.

Haven't been here in about five years. The food was very good and the portions were well worth the price. Had the N.Y Steak & Chicken and everything was cooked perfectly. The service was really good too. Will be back again.

I recommend the Lampu Special...a great tasting deal at $16. One star off for not including napkins and utensils with my to-go order. Luckily, I always keep a stash of plastic forks in my car, but I had to drink my soup like Cup-o-Soup.

The fried rice was a little bland tonight. The ginger dressing on the salad was superb as always. The shrimp were pump and flavorful. Service was adequate.

My family of 3 has visited twice in the last few months. Both times they were efficient. Server was good and attendant. The chefs are good and funny and the food is always cooked great. We've done hibachi twice and ordered some sushi and both were good

I just had my worst meal here ever!!! Had a new chef who overlooked the rice, used very little soy sauce, didn't use teriyaki sauce on anything and the food had absolutely no flavor. When I complained about our meal, management gave us only a 20% discount, which really upset me. I have been a loyal Lampu customer for 17 years & I am extremely disappointed. Will not return for a very long time. Maybe it's time I tried one of their competitors.

Honestly it should be able to be a half star. The food was not bad.but the service was very bad I will not be going back kiku is SO much better! And to top it off we had to go to the bar and have him come over to refil our whole tables drinks 2times!

I go to other Japanese restaurants and I don't wait to the end for my meat. The meat was cook at the end. Therefore the rice and noodles got cold waiting on the meat. The price was good but the cooking order of the food was not good at all. I had lemon water and when I got a refill I had to ask for lemon again.

Food was decent. A little bland. Service was decent and I did love that the yum yum sauce was in squirt bottles for each guest. That was convenient. Prices were fair compared to other Japanese steak houses. I’d go back when I come to Mount Dora!

Good price for decent meal. Cooks (chefs) are inconsistent. Chicken overcooked and stringy, lobster tail for $13.95 is a Florida (not Maine) lobster which tastes like a skinned possum. Rice, veggies, steak and noodles all very good. White sauce here is better than Kobes.

This is the best Japanese Steakhouse I've been to. The service was prompt food was delicious.

Not bad! Kobé is better but the price is also higher. Food was good. Waiter didn’t come back for a refill so didn’t really like that but over all it was ok

Amazing!! The food is great - great show. If you like Kobe, you won’t be disappointed! And the price is way better!

Went to dinner tonight! Definitely ate spoiled steak! Sour tasting like it was old. Complained about it to waitress no manager came. Your wasting your breath to complain no one cares. An apology would of been nice. Also husband nearly chipped a tooth on a sushi roll! Horrible horrible! If we get sick someone is hearing about it!!

Always good environment. Staff is very friendly and the cooks are funny. We always have a good time and food is great. Prices are reasonable, and amount of food is good. Been around lake county for a long time and for good reason they are the best for this style of cuisine.

Love this place !! I moved away and so sad I can’t have it atleast once a week. But I return at every visit Home 😜

Filler food tiny scallops. All noodles Cheap food!

The food was mediocre and the service was very poor. They did and automatic 18% gratuity and we had a very difficult time even getting a refill on our drinks. The cold wouldn't even acknowledge us when we spoke to him and there was no "show" or entertaining what so ever. So disappointing! Lampu has certainly declined. For a bill of $150.00 you would think you could have a soda and a smile at the very least.

Great place especially for a birthday dinner. For when you want to treat yourself

Wonderful quaint atmosphere. Went on Valentines Day. Arrived about 6:30 pm and thought for sure we'd be waiting awhile. Just the opposite, was seated right away and had a wonderful dinner. Very nice staff and deliciously fresh tasting food. And, very entertaining!
