Review Usher's House - Moorhead

Usher's House used to be the place my husband and I would go when we were looking for a special and romantic date night location. That won't be the case anymore. The warm, rustic charm of their old location has been replaced by a modern, sleek and decidedly not romantic ambience. I recently went to lunch with a friend. Here are my observations from that visit... Parking spaces were very sparse. I'm not sure what we missed. We took one of the last of the few spaces we saw and the place wasn't busy. There must be parking somewhere, but I don't know where. The staff was friendly and we were shown to a table promptly. We ordered our meals... me a French dip with sweet potato fries; my friend ordered a Turkey melt with a side salad. We then proceeded to wait over 45 minutes for our food. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her meal. I thought mine was nothing special. This is a new restaurant, so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks. I'm disappointed that the romantic vibe has been completely sacrificed. We assumed that they're probably aiming to cater to the needs of business lunches and the like, but if that is, in fact, the case, they will need to significantly improve the speed of their service. I won't say it's bad. It definitely wasn't. However, it's unlikely that I'll return. It doesn't hit the notes that I had come to expect and hope for from a visit to Usher's House and its new format isn't outstanding enough to draw me in for a new reason.

Stopped for dinner to use our SaveCoin coupon and are so glad that we did. I had the meatloaf, my wife had ribeye and we topped both off with a shared serving of s'mores cheesecake. All of it was so delicious, complemented by top-end service. Although it is a bit pricey (see my menu pictures), I definitely recommend a visit for a special night out.

Let me start by saying that the new ushers is nothing like the old restaurant. If you were a big fan of the old location you will be very disappointed. The food was okay but the service not so much. Also keep in mind that the menu is all small plates. Plan on ordering multiple plates per person probably like 3-5 for the average fat American. I was there on a Friday night at 6:30, including us they only had 4 tables and nobody at the bar. At that time almost every other restaurant in the area is on a wait so you can probably always get a table. My drinks were very weak but at least made with good ingredients. The atmosphere was like a hotel bar at a 3 star hotel.

We have always enjoyed Usher's, both the old and new locations. The staff is exceptional and the drinks are perfect!

What a beautiful, modern gem right in the middle of Moorhead. We ordered most of the appetizers and everyone loved them. I ordered the mixed grill which was delicious- the scallops are some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of eating! Fish was perfectly prepared and the crazy corn concoction on the bottom of it all was such a fun departure from the norm. Everything was great, including the creme brulee!

Ushers had their food trailer at Bluestem for the Woodstock 50th Anniversary. The menu had 6-7 items that were all priced $9 and up. We ordered the cheeseburger and the walleye sandwich. When asked if the sandwiches came with a side the woman taking orders flippantly stated “I’m sure someone’s selling French fries around here. $18 bucks.” When we finally received our food the burger was an unseasoned, cold, undercooked, frozen patty on an untoasted white bun. The walleye patty was the same story: breaded, bland, frozen, prepackaged. I would have given less than one star but the whole star is the lowest possible rating. I expected more from Ushers as their reputation was favorable. If this is what they chose to put out I recommend saving your money.

The food at Usher's is a mix of small plates, apps and entrees. The quality is hard to match in the FM area. I recommend the Kobe beef sliders, the scallops with crab, bacon ragout and the cauliflower tacos. Nice wine, beer and cocktail selection.

New location is bad decision. Menu even worse. Bloody Mary EVEN worse than the menu. I miss the old back room overlooking the Red River. I miss the ambience. I miss the food. They use to have THE BEST walleye in town. Not so much anymore.

I really want to like this place. But it is too inconsistent. Went in April with a party of 5 and had a very good meal. Went last night and I ordered an adult portion of the kids menu item, grilled chicken and fresh veggie. The chicken tasted rancid with a weird spice added to it. First time I have never finished my chicken. It's chicken! Not sure how you mess that up. Cant imagine a kid choosing that dish and eating any of it. Asparagus was good however. The setting is beautiful and the patio lovely. But how do you screw up chicken??

was here after a family funeral. the view was very pretty, but that's the only nice thing I can say. we had a large group and the wait staff was never around. my husband and I were never asked if we wanted a drink ( so we only had the water that was on the table), we even tried to get their attention and they ignored us. the food was extremely over priced for the options we were given. We were not impressed.

We were first time visitors and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and services! Thank you to the chef that made the smoked wild boar pasta dish. It was fabulous! The almond caramel cheesecake was the bomb!!!!! We will be back! Waitress was attentive and friendly! Nice Change for the FM area!

Great menu, perhaps the most beautiful view from the dining room and of course they are #MoorheadProud.

Very accomadating with reservation reqests. Gave early notice but sdded seating from 8 to 10. Tanle presentation beautifully done upon our arrival. Waitress attentive to our needs. All parties attending enjoyed their meal while enjoying the beautiful scenery outside. Loved the pretty flowers out front. Will use Usher House again for family gathering

Great dinner and service last night. Holiday decorations made the atmosphere warm even though it was the coldest day of the year. Highly recommend!

We are from Philadelphia where we have fantastic restaurants. As a result we have high standards. This restaurant met those standards. The atmosphere was great, the waitress was friendly and professional . The food was excellent with a wonderful presentation.

Service was awesome (Chloe) the meal was delicious (salmon special), the atmosphere was stunning and the best part was the fact that I got to spend some one on one time with a dear friend.

We were there for a birthday celebration and everything was great..the food was excellent..it was the second time for me and the first time was just as good..will be back

The view is outstanding, the Ribeye.. Not so much.

We got married at Usher's House on Friday October 7th and it was one of the best experiences ever! Not just because we were getting married but Anna was phenomenal to work with! Her and the other servers took such great care of us and went above and beyond what I had expected! We couldn't have asked for more...ummmmm, but if we did Anna would have made it happen!! �

Excellent service... forward trend menu.... pleasing presentation. Ushers is a go to in FM.

That staff was very nice, the Elk Pasta excellent

Lovely, as usual. Where was Cody? We were entertaining someone from Chicago and he was impressed.

Best patio in town and I've never had a bad dish here!
