Fantastic outdoor seating! Ambiance at night was wonderful. Service was great. Lobster was really good but not impressed with fish and chips (fish was not very fresh) and the bay shrimp were tiny and fishy tasting. Bread was fresh and tasted very good! Would come back for the lovely outdoor experience:)
This was my second visit of Scales Seafood & Steaks and my family loved their food with reasonable price and the portion so much. The decor is clean and bright with plenty of seats.
The staff was attentive and passionate to give you a small cup of clam chowder to taste. Tourists can get a free appetizer as same promotion as other stores at Fisherman’s wharf.
Their food was not the best but decent. Our favorites were their fried calamari (the free appetizer we had) and grilled fish. The grilled fish was fresh and cooked well.
Beautiful views! We went at dinner and waited five minutes for a booth with a view! Food was good and good portions. Had the shrimp scampi and it was amazing! The shrimp were large and tender. My friend had their special and it looked amazing! We're too full for dessert. Waiter was attentive.
This place was a great spot to relax and eat specially with the outdoor seating. Food was delicious, but I didn't like the lobster roll as much compared to other venues. Nonetheless, this was not a bad choice, they gave us a complimentary fried calamari Appetizer for ordering an entree. But they never showed us the drink menu I guess they assumed we only wanted water lol good service good food, if I'm in the area I'll consider visiting again but I'm not really dying to come back
We walked out to the Old Fisherman’s Wharf from our hotel to have our evening meal. We chose Scales Seafood and Steak and we were very happy with our choice. All tables have great views of the marina and harbor and we were able to enjoy viewing seals, sea otters, and diving seabirds. They have a fairly large menu selection with many seafood choices, and a nice selections of wines, and they offer several daily specials. I had the macadamia nut crusted halibut which came with a nice sauce and wonderfully cooked vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. My wife had the clam linguini and she said it was very good. The prices were reasonable, the food delicious, and the service was wonderful. A perfect trifecta, great food, beautiful views and outstanding service. Highly recommended.
Food was great. The service was excellent. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly, talkative, and welcoming. There was a bit of a wait during the dinner rush, but it was well worth the wait. The food tasted fresh. The calamari was excellent. Very flavorful and delicious. The oysters were also very fresh. Tasted like it was straight out of the ocean. The tacos were the only item that was not that great. I wouldn't get the tacos again. The flavor was off and it did not taste all that good. The drinks were excellent. The margarita was strong and delicious. The artichoke plate was also great. First time having artichoke, and I enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this place. It's in a great location, and it really feels like a seaside pier restaurant. I loved the atmosphere. The restaurant and restrooms were clean.
I do love the fish and chips. Deep battered cod was light and crunchy goodness of the cod. Fresh and clean tasting fish. Family ordered chowder garlic bread bowl, veg Parmesan eggplant, calamari dinner. The kids indicate a bit more salt than normal. We know when it’s too much or too little salt. This was definitely above salt taste. The garlic bread bowl was just awesome. Golden crust with garlic butter. The chowder was definitely a high light. In today’s cost was 107$ you get what you pay. Loved it! The food was so good! Service was impeccable. We were sat at the best outdoor dining table available. We were right on The water and had our dinner by candle light. The view was beautiful. Thier cioppino is a must try, very tasty broth! Seafood risotto was amazing. seafood was very fresh.We will definitely be back! 5 star food and service.
I have been here three times and the food and service have been outstanding each time. This last time we waited extra time for a table with an ocean view but were seated elsewhere. We went to the front and let the greeter know what happened and he made things right immediately. They seated us at a table with a perfect ocean view and the greeter gave us a special appetizer for free. These people know how to treat their customers! We will definitely be back again! I can't say enough about the food. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon with lobster, a twice baked potato and vegetables. No regrets here!! The calamari is also amazing! I've tried their calm chowder before as well and it is very good.
Absolutely phenomenal food, service (thanks RG) and environment. It is so difficult to find a really nice restaurant with good food in a lovely seeing like this where you can bring the kids without being judged. Our kids are very well behaved but it is always a concern. We were welcomed here and treated to a very memorable dining experience. Even though we live in Arizona we are already planning a return to Monterey to dine at Scales again.
Amazing location, polite staff and free house appetizer! Delicious clam chowder.. the best one i have tasted so far. Try the bread bowl, you will not be dissapointed. If the soup is not warm enough for you, please ask and they will happily do that for you. For us they filled the bread bowl again. Extra points!!
Great place for food and drinks. It was long wait for a table but you can also sit at the bar and have your food. Both bartenders were very attentive and nice to us. Food was fantastic and clam chowder one of the best I ever had. And the dessert..just look at the picture.
Our dining experience was fabulous here as the food was excellent. It is on a touristy Fisherman's Wharf but it had the best atmosphere with incredible views. We had attentive service and the hostess later came by to ask us if we were enjoying our dinner. Extensive menu with lots of options.
Best seafood ever!! They have the most flavorful calamari compared to any place I've ever eaten it. The garlic toasted clam chowder bowl is to die for!! Scales is definitely my go-to spot on the wharf! 💕💋😁
I enjoy the fact that this is a highly reputable seafood option in an area which could largely be considered a tourist trap. We were bowled over by the presentation of the dishes, even the large salad was done up in an imaginative way. Service is impeccable, acoustics are good and the view is pleasant. Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing dining experience for our family. The service was the best! The food was perfect. I can always tell the true quality of by how the food from the kids menu. This restaurant is 100% a foodies delight for all ages!
Good food, not the best for the money, but it is really good. What really takes the show is the service though. Execellent service which just added so much more to the experience. They gave us a free calamari appetizer and came around and handed out roses to the ladies. When we got the bill, we noticed that our clam chowder was missing and they let us know it was Thankgiving so the chowder was on them. Top notch!

Great tasty food. Tried several clam chowder samples along the wharf, but found their version the best--lots of bits of clam n most important of all, not overly salty. Beer-battered fish n chips were excellent. They were very accomodating--gave me two fish slices instead of three and replaced with over 12pieces of fried calamari...I had them as a free appetizer (free if u order an entree) the nite before and they were fantastic, I mean really fresh n the batter was light.
For lunch, you can order n eat at the snack side. $8 for a small chowder--enough to share with another adult n child if you order fish n chips as well. They also serve chowders in a bread bowl. Fish n chips only $13.
Dinner inside was nice too. Good seaview. I ordered the macadamian-coated fried halibut--freshest I have EVER tasted-- with two huge coconut battered prawns. A bit expensive $37. Too bad the chef chose a sweet sauce which didnt complement well with the fish. All lady diners were given a 🌹 upon leaving. Nice touch!
My husband and I dine at Scales whenever we visit Monterey. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is peaceful and relaxing with an ocean view and candlelit table while dining. We have eaten a variety of food here and have enjoyed everything we have tried. The crab ravioli is one of our favorite dishes, but the shrimp was delicious too. Upon leaving, our waiter presented me with a rose, which is a lovely and memorable gesture. It's always a treat to visit this restaurant!
